Celebrations Erupt Across Arab World after US Chopper Crash
Associated Press ^ | November 2, 2003 | nwrep

Cairo, Egypt-AP -- There are celebrations reported across the Arab world, after the news of more American casualties in Iraq.

Resistance to the occupation is applauded by some who see it as proof that Iraqis weren't totally humiliated by the relative ease of the U-S-led coalition's toppling of Saddam Hussein.

Many Arabs had warned an invasion of Iraq could drag the region into chaos. In Damascus today, foreign ministers from countries bordering Iraq again called on the U-S to restore order in that country.

For practical purposes, keeping one's enemies close is often a good tactic. But it depends on what kind of enemy they are.

Until the voice of peace is loud among Muslims -- strident calls rebuking in the severest manner acts of random terror, rebuking ABSOLUTELY the killing of Americans and Jews, it is most unwise and a provocation of more bloodshed to host s State Dinner in celebration of Ramadan.

There are signficant Christian groups vociferous in protesting the war on Iraq. There are significant Jewish groups vociferous in defending the Palestinians.

Before 9/11, if some fringe Chirstian neo-Crusader group had flown 747's into the crowd on pilgrimmage at Mecca, there would be a whole and total uproar from every Chistian assembly in rebuke of that act and foreswearing mightily against such terror. It would be continuous, loud, all-over and long-lasting.

Where has been the Muslim uproar against the terror of 9/11? It simply HAS NOT BEEN. What we have heard instead is massive silence and some celebration. The disclaimers -- a few -- TOO FEW!

Mr. Bush's celebration of Ramadan is the vice of honoring the corrupt, the violent. Not all Muslims are violent -- there are among them some of the most peaceable people in the world. But those people are not heard, that sentiment of peace is missing from the concept of modern Muslim popular religion.

Until the Muslims, themselves, make that desire for peace manifest, loud, rising in popularity, there can be no truck with that religion. It must be shunned, outcast.

* * *

There are a few prominent on FR who bash those who would speak as I have. And they waste no time to do so. Why?

Because they have made Mr. Bush a Catholic, in fact, the Pope. They have made him infallible. Beyond any disagreement towards his policies. To question policy dogma of the Papal President Bush -- why some even claim that is heresy! TREASON!

No man is infallible, and each of us needs and should welcome the proper and honest rebuke from our fellows. We should feel very uncomfortable around flatterers. And people who call a man, even a good man, infalliable are one of the most damnable type of flatterers.

I agree...the silence from the Muslim-Americans has been deafening.

"Mr. Bush's celebration of Ramadan is the vice of honoring the corrupt, the violent."

I disagree, but I understand yer sentiment.

"Not all Muslims are violent -- there are among them some of the most peaceable people in the world. But those people are not heard, that sentiment of peace is missing from the concept of modern Muslim popular religion. Until the Muslims, themselves, make that desire for peace manifest, loud, rising in popularity, there can be no truck with that religion. It must be shunned, outcast."

If you do that, you play right into the Islamic-fanatics hands by making this a Holy War on both sides, wherein presently there is only one side waging a holy war. The ability to maintain a separation between the Islamo-Fascists and the mainstream Muslims is key to winning this War On Terrorism over the long run. Celebrating Ramadan is but one way to signal to the Muslim-American community just how blatant the Good Versus Evil dichotomy is in this war.

The mainstream Muslims? Well just who are they? There's a lot of wishful thinking about "mainstream Muslims", the peaceable kind -- but they are not heard from, and every news report from muslim countries brings more stories, reports, cartoons saying "mainstream Muslims" continue to entertain the demons of hate and murder against America and Israel.

Honesty there are many peaceful Muslims ... but fewer and fewer of them appear as voices in the ranks of the popular religion. The leaders need to speak and act wholehearted for peace, to promote the sentiment in public, and that is NOT happening.

And to honor such rotten leadership provokes future bloodshed.

for nearly a century the State Department has been represented by palace eunuchs who support the Arab cause.

You are correct and this is indeed a great problem.

The reason is careerist diplomats who pine for their own ambassadorial posting. They can learn Hebrew and fight for the Israel job, or they can learn Arabic and get a posting in any of two dozen countries. And they know very well that they will be paid richly to be mouthpieces for the Wahhabi scum after their government service is over.

I notice you spend more time ramting about a dinner than you do grieving the loss of sixteen brave men.You have spent time bashing Bush and people who have faith in his leadership, imperfect but strong.I weary of your rants.

I agree, but to speak out makes these leaders targets for the Jihad. Sure, I'd like to see more brave ones speak out against their murderous brethren, but simply showing up for a White House dinner with the leader of TheGreatSatan is making a point as well. This isn't just about Dubyuh reaching out to the Muslim-American community for Ramadan, the reverse is true also.

Since you are in a sci-fi mood, why not put force fields around them, and forbid all contact with civilized nations for 500 years? Here's something simpler and more reasonable: forbid all air and sea traffic from or to those benighted lands.

You got it right.

By the time we crossed into Germany in WWII, we had firebombed major German cities into ash. As a result, there was NO fanatic support for the Nazi's. After firebombing Tokyo and other major cities, we nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki ensuring the victory before ever setting foot on Japan.

Bush is more concerned about "alienating" the pig-humping Islamic immigrants in the US before the next election, than securing a victory.

News is hard upon learning the lads were coming home and leaving the war sector.
In late WW-2....A U.S. Destroyer had survived the leathal period of the Japanese Kamikaze campaign off Okinawa.
July 28th 1945...at Midnight..another U.S. Destroyer would arrive to relieve USS Callaghan..she would head Stateside.
In the dark..an obsolete Japanese float plane with a bomb sneaked in on the Callaghan and suicided the ship...the bomb detonated in the engine room..Callaghan began to come apart from internal explosions.

47 of her crew perished..many wounded.
Callaghan was moments away from being relieved.

War can bring these terrible outcomes that seem so unfair.
America has what it takes to overcome ...She did so in the past.

She will today.

The fact that these medieval insects think the downing of a single U.S. helicopter represents some sort of major victory, speaks for itself with regard to the degree of their desperation.

But nevertheless, I cannot repress my fantasies of watching an American jet flying low over the "Arab street" so often invoked by the leftist media, and dropping canisters of napalm... and watching the boiling flames engulf the entire ludicrous spectacle...

Well, we know how Syria restores order. I guess they want us to do likewise!

Attend to the living! That had better be our motto in the long haul. Bury the dead honorably, but never by mis-accounting for the current crew among the quick.

That is one honors better the life of those now dead by diligence and effort to preserving the same lives they fought and died to save.

Certainly never by honoring the secret and not-so-secret friends of the killers at a State Dinner.
