WASHINGTON (AFP) Oct 30, 2003
US deputy defense secretary Paul Wolfowitz fended off hecklers at Georgetown University during a speech Thursday.
"We hate your policies!" shouted one young woman, standing ten meters (yards) from Wolfowitz who went pale and clenched his jaw.
"Killing innocents is not the solution but rather the problem," she said.
"I have to (infer) you'd be happier if Saddam Hussein was still in power," he replied dryly before recalling the regime's cruelties.
A lot of innocents were sacrificed and "the alternative would have been far more brutal, there is no question in my mind."
Two other students among the dozen that had lined up to speak to the man held up as the Bush administration mastermind of the Iraq war also attacked US policy there.
A visibly shaken Wolfowitz caught his breath to tell one of them, "You and I should both calm down."
He later said that the Iraq war was "not an ideological, but a moral issue."
"There is not much question in my mind about the morality of having gotten rid of this regime."

The Left knows how to hate and heckle, no doubt about it...
They just don't know how to lead or govern (California, Iraq, etc.).

Great publicity for Georgetown--another bastion of elitism where you can learn "what to think" rather than "how to think" for $35k+ a year. What a bargain! I'm sooooo impressed by their articulate intellectuals!

They showed a clip of this on FOX he didnt turn pale or clench his jaw. You're absolutely right but what's that got to do with it? It certainly makes the story more interesting for the millions of people who didn't see the clip.
What, you're actually expecting truthful reporting?

Yeah, I didn't see any paling, clenching, trembling, or anything else. I saw a very calm man take a sip of water and then make his remarks evenly and without emotion. Wofie was dean of International Relations at Johns Hopkins for 7 years, he knows how the snot-nosed little crunchies are.

Having attended and matriculated from Georgetown I must say that I am deeply troubled that someone from the Georgetown administration did not put a lid on these type of comments.
When I attended in 1997 we were always asked to put questions on cards and present them at the time of the event. If time permitted, the speaker would answer the questions.
I am on the phone now leaving a very angry voice message.

"I have to (infer) you'd be happier if Saddam Hussein was still in power," he replied dryly before recalling the regime's cruelties. Why didn't the writer say Wolfowitz got a loud (well considering that audience it was loud) applause after that statement?

I would also note that Georgetown University is a lot more conservative than this demonstration might reflect.

I can't imagine that it wouldn't have a good number of conservatives there, otherwise my son-in-law, active duty Major in the Marine Corps, wouldn't have gone there for his Masters' Degree in Tax Law (graduated 2003, while stationed at the Pentagon).
