Dear Republican,

Over the last few months, Laura and I have traveled the country and have been humbled by the enthusiastic support we have been given.

Our country has faced many challenges in the last two and half years and we are meeting these challenges at home and abroad. We're defeating the enemies of freedom. And at the same time, we're confronting challenges to build prosperity for our nation and a more compassionate society.

Every test has revealed the true character of America. And no one in the world can doubt the spirit and will and strength of the American people.

We are meeting the challenges of our time but there is much more to be done and I need your support. Will you join me in these efforts by volunteering for my re-election campaign as a Bush Team Leader?

I have not decided if I am going to vote for George W. again. I probably will though; ideological purity is unfortunatley, only afforded to the thinkers and philosophers, not the politicians.

Ditto. Choosing the 'lesser of two evils' is the curse of a damned culture. There is no question that we will get to a socialized, centralized federal power structure more slowly with the Republicans, but we will get there nonetheless.

Being a pragmatist, I'll hold my nose and vote for Bush. Maybe we can stave off the eventual death of personal responsibility, private property, local/state control for another decade or so with the Republicans ... but most all of us have sold off any principles we may have once had, and we choose that which brings the end most slowly, knowing full well that is all we are doing.

Our grandkids will be raised in a multiculturally diverse, UN-dominated, socialized, no borders, metrosexualized, Azatlanized world ... and we don't have the balls to do anything about it other than slow the eventuality.

They can do only what your local elected Congress critters allow them to do by the legislation that they pass.... budgets, laws, etc. So it's really your local ppl that you reelect year after year, term after term that become entrenched in the DC culture, power structure, etc that control what goes on. Sure the President has some influence on legislation and which way it will turn but the most influnce lies with your Congress critters... But the Judges will impact your children's destiny for years to come when the President has long since vacated the office....

Yep the Clinton influence of 8 years will be felt for many more through his judicial appointments... So I don't buy the speel it makes no difference. You and I view it differently but that's our choices.

I agree. But you know what I find so sad?

Entire generations of our forefathers gave their lives for our liberty. As a pissant colony they fought a global superpower and won! They suffered, they died, they sacrificed.

All we have to do is have the spine to stand up for what is right and vote for freedom. All it takes is 10 minutes and we can't even do that. We dropped the ball. It is the ultimate betrayal of our forefathers and our kids.

Thanks for your response. I'm not sure what percentage I'd place on the middle of FR.... maybe less than 20%.... But in anycase it takes all of the those plus a lot of the others to make someone of that conservative stripe electable... It doesn't happen often. We can elect very conservative candidates in some local races but it gets harder to do as the area expands....

I was reading the other day that federal spending consumes about one-fifth of all national production--this figure hasn't really changed much over the last 40 years. I find it ironic that the President's 2004 budget request is among the largest in history. At present, conservatives concern themselves with issues such as terrorism and national security, but perhaps an even greater threat to democracy is the virtual un-checked growth of the state, regardless of what party is in office.

And yes, people say that this budget money is needed to fund various projects, but there can be no doubt in one's mind that big government works in direct opposition to republican values, regardless of the context of time. Just MHO of course.
