You'll have to pardon my ignorance, but isn't the timing of these fires a bit odd considering the language Davis used to describe the fires and Arnold's language about circumstances under which he might raise taxes.
So, isn't there just a teensy weensie chance that Davis and Mullholland arranged for this particular "natural" disaster???
I believe they called this tactic "scorched earth."
Literally.

Yeah, I'm going to Cambodia in a few weeks and have a few commitments here, I usually get out to his place a few times a year or so. Going to San Diego when you are in Phoenix in July is a luxury...

Lanie- You just percieve that the desert is bare. Fires in Northern Nevada a couple of years ago burned for miles and miles because no one thought there was any "fuel" out there. Today lots of that area still looks like a moonscape. There is more fuel than you might think. Please stay alert and stay safe. Pack something and the important papers just in case.

Thanks much! She is going to call her squadron tomorrow to see if they are all okay. She said they are getting no information where she is at in Maine. She quit watching CNN and now on the computer looking for information.
Without FR and these internet links, we would be lost if we had to depend on cable news.

In light of the fact that as of yet, no houses have been lost at Stevenson Ranch, I think it's safe to assume that it's the hill burning behind the house.

Thanks. As a group, FReepers do know almost everything.Except why are there no green mammals?

"new" 40 acre fire near crestline back west by silverlake..finger of bigger arrowhead fire more eastIt seems like that fire is jumping in many directions tonight.
I think tomorrow will he the turning point for better or worse, depending on how strong the winds are coming up the hill.

Great! That's exactly what I hope will happen with my friends/family! That and the hope that they'll forward it to THEIR friends/family. If nothing else, I hope more and more people will be praying. The scope is really more than we can calculate at the moment. The scope is much more than I had expected or thought possible myself. I grew up in Ohio. Fires were put out the same day they started, almost without failure. I knew California and other western areas had more significant fires, but this is the first one that I've followed play-by-play and I'm feeling very bad about the incredible devastation. I know from reading here that this is the worst in years, and I'm doing my best to get a grasp on the situation. I'm as fixated on this as I was on 9/11 - it has captivated my attention.
Your e-mail is a powerful, but accurate representation of the situation as far as I can see from my perspective as a freeper. It is good.

If anyone can point me to a list of live TV/radio feeds and scanner streams, I'd appreciate it. The KNBC News internet feed just went off, I presume so they could show Whoopi.
