I've been a SoCal type my entire life....and each and every seasonal Santa Ana wind-whipped fire gets attributed as such. Once those statements are heard, you never tend to hear much more on the subject - maybe something to keep arson investigators on the payroll?

Rose Davis, a spokeswoman for the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, told The Associated Press that officials there took note of the warning but didn't see a need to act further on it.

It's not that these officials didn't see a need to act on this threat. The reality is that preventing someone from starting a forest fire is more difficult than catching a fart in the wind.

Now, is it ELF or AQ, or both?

Given their political bent, ELF would sympathize with AQ.

I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not but I agree with you 100%!

Earth Liberation Front, though it might be ALF.

Or it could be neo-Nazis. Both al-Qaeda and the neo-NAzis are quite anti-Semitic.

Normally I would dismiss this sort of thing as paranoia; but given the events of the last two years, the porous and uncontrolled Mexican border, and things like this little article, I'm not so sure. Vigilance seems to be the order of the day.

I don't think ELF would destroy so many trees.

They usually prefer attacking people or their possesions - but not against Nature since that is what they are allegedly trying to protect.

Now, is it ELF or AQ, or both?

Is there any difference? They both have the same objective, just alternative religions as their justification.

This sort of thing is paranoia, whether dismissed or not. Terrorists don't terrorize if they don't announce their terrorism. Arson is one of the most mundane and routine criminal acts around, and there's no reason to think a random pyromaniac isn't to blame until evidence to the contrary.

Remember the 'vast DC sniper Al Qaeda conspiracy'??

Big fires in Spain earlier this year. Funny how that would happen to an ally.

And big blackouts in Italy and the UK.

I agree that it is likely ELF. To a group that destroys building projects and SUV dealerships to prove that mankind is harming the earth, deliberately setting fires to destroy the land for others and the property of others is not a big stretch. How awful!
