there were two attempted starts in the Santa Clarita area this morning, Castaic area....both were put out quickly.

The Alpine fire near Viejas casino off I-8 has jumped the freeway and
is threatening the exclusive Palo Verde subdivision. IC reports
extreme fire conditions and fire behavior with winds up to 60 mph. No
available additional resources.

Afraid not. I haven't been anywhere in SoCal since '93. I did get word from my mother that she was evacuated early this morning to Pine Grove, which itself is being evacuated now.

I just spoke with my sister. She lives in the Cottonwood Estates area next to Monarch Ridge. She received the mandatory evacuation order and they are out of the house. Fortunately, they had plenty of time to pack up the essentials and her husband is retrieving their travel trailer for a place to live. The flames are very near her house and it is likely to burn. My son report that the answering machine at his girlfriend's house in Eastlake is still functioning, so we think that house is still Ok.

Yeah, I think the phones have gone wonky, too. Can't reach my grandmother, who's just outside of San Diego proper, either. She's not in a danger zone, however.

You were very close with water dripping down. Those choppers this morning would dump their load and fly right into the smoke and come out on the other side. Really impressed with these guys.

Are they still based in the Lake Elsinore area? Know when we lived there all the firefighting planes/choppers came from there.

just flip across the news channels, not a blip. CNN is talking about the Russian miners trapped and Egypt mummies go home coming up!!!

It seems the giant fire in Southern Cal is not even a drastic event worth reporting???
