Gov. Davis is out there comforting the families... where's the POTUS? I don't quite understand why you think President Bush should be out here in the middle of this? It is the governor's job to do what he is doing.

If I had a shake roof on my house and lived near one of the Canyons, it would be replaced ASAP. The main problem is that there's such a weight difference between shingles and tiles that the entire roof would also need to be re-engineered and rebuilt, which cost major $$$. It's not just an issue of shingle replacement.

Good info and map, thanks.
To: John Jorsett
My Gosh, that map is horrifying.

Do you think we can have a San Diego wildfire thread just like yesterday instead of mixing it in with all of Southern California?

I don't understand how to get this to show local info in san diego... please explain how to use this site... seems like a very good way to see what is happening.
Thanks,

LAFD got a pretty good handle on the fire this morning as it entered LA (118 @ Rocky Peak)....they put on a clinic on how to handle these things. Air drop every 60 seconds...the frequency is hardly busy now. They were using three LAFD fire helos, one Ventura County, the Sky Crane, and several planes.

That's why we paid the difference in price when we had our house built in Yucaipa in order to get the tile roof with the stucco. I was afraid to live in a shake roofed home and when I found out what you had to do to replace a shake roof, we paid the extra for tile.

The irony of Davis wanting to hang on till the last possible minute out of pure spite. Now he has another disaster on his hands.......

That was amazing to watch those choppers -- they saved that neighborhood from destruction IMHO! When the fire jumped 118 for the 2nd time, the choppers came in and within minutes the fire was back until control. It is so impressive!
