Randall Terry, Founder of Operation Rescue says, "Partial-Birth Abortion Ban is a Public Relations Goldmine, but a Political Scam"

WASHINGTON, Oct. 22 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following is a statement by Randall Terry, Founder of Operation Rescue:

The Public Relations Goldmine:

"The major benefit of this bill is the debate that surrounds it: 1) Abortion and abortion procedures are discussed in the news media, hence the public is educated; 2) The public sees how completely barbaric and violent partial-birth abortion is; 3) Voters see who supports this crime against children and mothers. The ethics behind partial-birth abortion are the same as those that justified Nazi concentration camps and American slavery. History will show that abortion in America was a gross betrayal of human rights and a crime against humanity," states Randall Terry, Founder of Operation Rescue, and President of the Society for Truth and Justice.

The Political Scam:

"This bill, if it becomes law, may not save one child's life. The Federal Courts are likely to strike it down. Furthermore this bill would only insure that unborn children would be murdered in some other hideous fashion. The bill also provides political cover in an election season to cowardly 'pro-life' political leaders who have done little for the pro-life cause. Worse yet, this bill would provide political cover for supporters of Roe-v-Wade within both parties, especially the Republican Party whose constituents are pro-life. This enables certain pro-choice Congressmen to support this bill and play both sides of the political fence. If the President and Congress want to accomplish a small, but real step, they should outlaw all abortions after 20 weeks -- the age when a baby can live outside the womb," states Randall Terry, Founder of Operation Rescue, and President of the Society for Truth and Justice.

It seems from all these posts you now know more about Terry than you do about the bill. He could be a problem but he is not the subject of the bill so why bother discussing him.

No, I would not give him money either but he still could be right about politicians. Time will tell if this is a victory for the babies or the politicians.

The one thing Randall Terry has a flair for is self-promotion. Sadly, he latched onto the poor Schindlers, trying to rehab himself--and you can see the results in this press release. When I pointed out that while the Schindlers and his supporters were condemning Michael Schiavo for his adultery, Terry was an adulterer as well, I got flamed (of course).

But that has been progress, both practically and in public relations, and that shouldn't be bad-mouthed.

That's what I was thinking. It is a step in the right direction and should be viewed as such.

But the war over infanticide is not over.

I wonder where Alan Keyes is on this. A cursory search of the news turned up empty. When I looked at alankeyes.com, it looks as if he hasn't written anything since August (re Judge Roy Moore).

That's what I thought. But let me pull your coat on something, xzins. What is it about conservatives that makes it impossible to work with them?

Can any of them say "thank you" for any victory while pushing towards the destination we all want?

What am I missing here?

His press release is incoherent. The guy can't write/reason his way out of a paper bag. What does he mean for example when he says that if partial birth abortion is banned, the fetuses will just be killed another way?

The bottom line is that Randall Terry is the pro choice side's best friend. You can write that down.

A little thank-you would go a long way, wouldn't it?

1st to God, of course.

Then to a bunch of folks who did a lot of leg work.

The problem: conservatives just might be perfectionist utopians.

I read the bill, it is more like an instruction manual for how to do a partial birth abortion without breaking the new law against it.

I doubt that's the case. The bill is pretty self-explanatory. Unfortunately, Randall Terry is anything but.

He could be a problem but he is not the subject of the bill so why bother discussing him.

You might want to direct that question to those who choose to shoot the messenger rather than debate the message.

Technically, the subject of this thread is Randall Terry's statement about the bill. So, if people want to discuss the person who made the statement, I'd hardly say that's out of bounds.

Actually, what he said was, "Furthermore this bill would only insure that unborn children would be murdered in some other hideous fashion." Sure, the wording could be better. (Your paraphrase is more to the point.)

Think of it this way. If you took away Jeffrey Dahmer's meat cleaver, do you seriously believe he would hesitate to use his hatchet?

He stays out of the spotlight on some things. I know that from experience, especially if it involves families or deep issues over individuals in regards to the Terry Schavo case.

A practical analysis by Randall Terry. It is indeed a PR goldmine and a political scam.

It's more like an uneducated rant. If you haven't been to the NRLC website in the last year, you should check it out. NRLC and many other groups have been lobbying Congress to take action against PBA because they believe that the description of the process is enough to justify a ban.

If you haven't noticed, the Senators aren't total idiots. They know that an outright ban of abortion would not get through the courts. But a ban on specific abortions would get their toes wet to see how cold the water is.

You're right, At best, the bill is a Supreme Court test. Which is exactly how I see it. Bush knows he needs one more conservative justice on the SC to overturn Nazis vs. civilization. Even the Dems aren't dumb. The've Demabustered every pro-life threat to the SC. There's no way the Senate could be so dumb as to think the ban would prevent abortions.

The bottom line is:
Anyone who says this was a political stunt to gain votes is a jealous Democrat or fearful liberal.

Randall Terry calling Rick Santorum a scam artist, wich is in essence what he has done, is laughable.

Rick Santorum is as serious a man as there is in the abortion debate and he is actually getting things done.

The foot is in the door, the nation is trending pro life and there are enough votes in the Congress to make SCOTUS think three times before they assume the mantle of trier of fact.

Giving credit where credit is due. Good job Rick!

Senator Santorum is by far the most feared Senator by the liberals. He has by far been the most proactive humanitarian in in the Senate.

The bottom line is that Randall Terry is the pro choice side's best friend. You can write that down.

I lived in upstate New York during the late 80's and early 90's when Randall Terry had his radio talk show. When he started ranting about homosexuals I told my husband, "This is the beginning of the end for OR. Randall can't focus anymore." As time went on he became more blustering, sarcastic, and scattered. He lost his vision and, apparently, his integrity along with it.

So incredibly sad for Cindy and the children. Sad too for the prolife movement Terry has betrayed by his self-serving.

As I recall, Terry's cousin is a high muckety-muck in Rocherster, NY feminist circles. I remember her abortion-rights, anti OR tirades in the local papers there; there was certainly no love lost between those two. No doubt she's chuckling now.

Sad, but true.

IMHO, Terry has no credibility because of his personal choices, no matter how hard he tries to rehabilitate himself.
