Jeb Bush Detractors can leave their apologies here.
Posted on 10/21/2003 2:47:00 PM PDT by Pukin Dog
If the moderators will allow this thread, I would like to hear from those with courage enough to admit their mistakes in attacking Governor Jeb Bush, "suggesting that blood would be on his hands", calling him a murderer and worse with no evidence to back up their assaults.
While today is a great day, I would like to know how many people are willing to stand up and admit their wrongs?
Some may think it unnecessary, but I think a pound of flesh is in order, in a single place were we can all see and read about it. Please remove if this is out of bounds, but in all the congradulatory threads, I dont see too many folks willing to suck it up.

this did not show how good jeb bush was...it did show how amazing the american people are...think about it...strangers,who don't know terri or each other formed a great force of power that FORCED the legislature and jeb to do something..these americans are what makes america great..not the political hacks who have to be forced to do the right thing.....

Sounds good to me. Any suggestions as to how we can get Terri away from Michael and in the custody and decision making by her mother, father, brother and sister???? Must be somebody we can contact.

That is cowgirl, and I uderstand your point. I understand your motivations , Pukin Dog. I agree with you on some issues.
There are some here who continue to attack us, and have for days now with nasty names, insisting that we are nothing more than "emotional idots and boneheads". Some of these people show upon every thread discouraging others from doing anything , because they said we were just plain stupid, emotional and ignorant for doing anything, for following through on any idea to put pressure on the powers that be.
If it were as simple as asking the representatives Florida to please take a look at this case when you get a chance, as some here advocated, nothing would have gotten done.

I said I was angry with him and I said he had no moral courage.
I stand by that allegation. What he did was go to committee to get the right thing done. Congratulations to him, he has spread the blame about and got the job done.
I'm glad it's done, I'm glad he signed it and I'm glad that Terri will have the feeding tube reinserted.
Being a leader means making the hard choices and doing what is unpopular yourself when everyone else (including the Law) demands you lay off.
He could have sent troopers in 4 days ago and had her removed. He could have done a number of things, none of them "legal". This was not a legal decision, this was a MORAL Decision and he lacked the moral courage to act.
I stand by my comments and I will not apologize.
Those in the executive branch cannot bully their way through laws, courts and the legal system. It doesn't work that way. You're being stiff necked. ;)
To: Pukin Dog
For those that don't find this courageous .. realize that there will be legal challenges to this and that the separation of powers will be tested. Gov. Bush and the legislature have 'called out' the liberal judiciary in Florida, and exerted their right to protect life. This fight is far from over. Pray for Terri's recovery and response to therapy, and soon, as this battle is one 'we' might lose in the courts when all is said and done.

So I suppose every time you find something morally distasteful you go in with guns blazing? Do you walk the walk?

I did not know the law of Florida, and I was willing to forgive Bush; however, I was swayed (as in, like a hurricane) by the Freepers who were outraged that he did nothing).
I assumed that he couldn't do anything.
but then, you all know what they say about "assume"... it makes an... a** out of U and Me.
Anyway, thank you Jeb Bush, for doing the right thing!
To: Pukin Dog
WOOHOO!
What a great day!
Seems Jeb Bush COULD do something about it after all, despite arguments to the contrary.
And he did!
(Thank the Good Lord and Jeb Bush and all the congressmen who did what was their duty).

This thread is about NOT letting bygones be bygones. This thread IS about bearing a grudge.
This thread is about impugning the motives of those who desperately wanted to save a life, to stop a possible murder.
Would you rather that no one raise cain over the appearant lack of needed timely action by any one YOU consider above reproach? To shut off honest complaint? If so, you have opened the doors wide to future calamities.
This thread says "Shut up!" -- "Shut up next time!". Bad advice. Well, no one is beyond the benefit of an honest critcism. No one is perfect. Poorly considered this is a rude thread.
The apology, sir, is yours to offer for putting this calumny forward. Yours alone.

Re my previous post--
I seriously doubted that Jeb Bush could do anything. As I've said before, I've had personal experience in family law, with a father who married someone who then had complete control over his medical affairs.
Anyway...all I know if I were Terri's parents, I would have been trying to get something done...
Hey... I guess Jeb knows which side his bread is buttered on. ;) :)

They said they'd vote against George W. Bush to get back at Jeb for not storming the hospice with state troopers.
That certainly sounds like seminar trollish behavior, leftists looking for any excuse to bash the President on FreeRepublic (under the cover of being Uber-Conservatives, of course).
To: madison10
This was not a legal decision, this was a MORAL Decision and he lacked the moral courage to act. And if Bush had stormed in, and been stopped by a legal injunction (very likely), the Legislature would never have passed this bill.
Why?
What sane politician is going to follow a lawbreaker?
You want a dictator, not a governor.

No and I will not apologize for what I said about him. Remember I was very supportive of him the first few days.
I was not a rabid dog at all. I let him know, if he was looking, that the conservatives were losing faith in him and demanded that he do something. Supported by hundreds of thousands of other conservatives, according to polls. and reactions from the politicans with an (R) after their name.
I never called him names, I just lost faith in him. So sue me for that. I have nothing to apologize for. I told you exactly what would happen last week. And by the way I was right. You should be the one who apologizes here, not me.
not only were you wrong, you have tried to obstruct people from speaking out and taking action, and you have been very crass in your name calling and degradation of others on those threads.

This thread is about those who impugned the motives of the Governor, and assumed that he didn't care, some even calling into question his faith, dedication, position, and salvation .. even amidst almost daily statements and movements by his legal team who sought every available consitutional avenue to prevent Terri's death. Even now some are here saying he should have stormed the hospice as Clinton/Reno authorized in the Elian Gonzalez affair.
I applaud the Governor for fighting this properly, and it is a fight that he may still lose. But making it a 2-1 battle in the 'separation of powers' fight gives him a much better chance of winning.

"Would you rather that no one raise cain over the appearant lack of needed timely action by any one YOU consider above reproach? To shut off honest complaint?"
I don't think that what this thread is about, at all.
Threads like these are the lifeblood of FR! Here, we can have honest debate about issues. We may not agree--and thank God we don't--but it's only because people devoted to Terri's right to life kept raising the issue that apparently, she may yet live (I haven't even had time to figure out what has happened, I just clicked on this thread as soon as I got here).
No, it's thanks to those of you who would not let Terri go that Jeb Bush did something.
Really, sometimes, so freepers are cynics. I guess I was one of them.
I pray for Terri's recovery. I know if I were her mother, well, I'd plaster myself over her body and wouldn't let the SOB near her, or any nurse either...
like I said, I have had personal experience in this area, with the death of my mother.
Anyway, let's all try to imagine "walking a mile in someone else's shoes"... I think the civility level might increase a hundred fold.

not only were you wrong, you have tried to obstruct people from speaking out and taking action, and you have been very crass in your name calling and degradation of others on those threads. Stop playing the victim. You trashed Bush for not acting, and now he's acted. Within the law.
When cool heads prevail, things get done. Ranting and raving accomplishes NOTHING.
