TALLAHASSEE, FL -- According to a news release sent by the Terry Schindler-Schiavo Foundation, Florida Speaker Johnnie Byrd will introduce "Terri's Bill" during the special session Monday.
The bill would put an immediate moratorium on all dehydration and starvation deaths in Florida. Meanwhile, supporters of Terri Schiavo showed up Sunday outside a Pinellas Park hospice.
Doctors say Schiavo has been in a vegetative state since complications from a heart attack in 1990. Her husband was granted a court order that her feeding tube be removed, saying his wife wouldn't have wanted to be kept alive.

>>Terri is actually, somewhat miraculously imo, holding on quite well, it seems.
>>GLORY TO GOD.
Amen. Keep praying that God will provide justice in this case.

but what I took from that tape is an existence that I wouldn't want to put my family through were I in that stateHowever the church would state otherwise, and you know it. You're describing a fine line within church doctrine here, and I seriously doubt that many would agree with you.
I have emailed Fr Breck personally and asked him to write on this issue. We'll see if he does.

An excerpt from your link ...
Doctors say the process of dying has begun and Terri may only have a few days left.
In order for the state legislature to consider Byrds proposal, the house must get a two-thirds vote to discuss the issue.

Michael Schiavo has stayed out of the public's eye.
|
As for Terri, her mother and brother visited her over the weekend and say that she is not as responsive as she usually is. The effect of not having any nutrition fed into her system is obviously taking its toll.Michael Schiavo is refusing to comment on his wifes condition.

My state statutory form has food and water in the same paragraph - no room for variance. I suspect facilities would be flexible on it.
To: Chancellor Palpatine
That has nothing to do with what is happening here, CP.
Let me freepmail you later with some more info, ok?
And not about Terri..

God sees him though. :)
I love the way the government has provided a SAFE HOUSE for him and his mistress and kid while he murders his wife.
Great job, Floriduh!

Tell them to keep the hydration and go without the food. An IV could be left in place and no feeding tube.

I'll make that suggestion to them in the future - thanks!
Going for a bit, will look for FReepmail later.

Here's the wording she used in post #89:
Jeb Bush has called an emergency special session and they will take it up 8:05am eastern time. IF the measure passes, Terri's execution will be stayed and feeding/hydration will resume immediately. She will be SAVED if this bill passes. As to being rude, well Governor Bush is being the most rude, claiming he cannot act to save Terri, sending his PR team out to mislead those desperate for something to save Terri. No, I'm not asserting that you, deannadurbin, are one of his team, but when you post ra ra Bush misinformation, you're being manipulated and taking others along with you.

It's not until 1:45.

We've been in this situation with a family member who had a massive hemorraghic stroke. So I can understand what you're saying. But then everyone agreed on a course of action. Here, the family doesn't. And after the husband's behavior lately, I'd want more than his say so to allow the plug to be pulled, or the starvation to occur in this case. Starving someone for two weeks is a lot different than turning off a respirator. And I hope that if FL is going to allow this, they pass a law that mandates autopsies for people who are euthanized. I wonder if Schiavo would be so willing to starve his wife if the authorities could then require an autopsy.

"100% of anybody who has ever spoken to me on this stuff has said that they don't want to be kept up like that. "
Well, let me show you that your 100% doesn't go for everyone. My hubby and I just talked about this last night. I made it clear that I would never ever want to be starved/dehydrated to death. In fact, I want *all* life support measures taken that are possible even if I'm in a coma. I told him that only if I am completely and totally brain dead and will die within a few minutes of life support being removed, should he remove life support. My mom wants the same measures for herself and my grandmother wanted the same measure as well. (though my grandmother was very lucky to die a very quick death even though she had emphasema and heart disease)

what they are doing is so atrocious it takes my breath away. Hearing about this, reading the articles and threads about it -- it's like reading something out of a paper from Nazi Germany. It really comes home when I realize that most conservative news and websites also don't seem to give a flip. The dam is breaking and no one pays any heed. My God this woman is being tortured to death and country-wide, there is barely a squeak.
To: Chancellor Palpatine
CP, we all have our cross to carry and should not judge the cross of another. I know some crosses you carry would be so heavy and impossible for me to live with.
If God has willed that Terri will be in this state, there is a reason and we are not to kill her. If God wills she should die, certainly He is capable of this too.
We don't have to respond with fear when we see very disabled people and think how hard it would be to live that way. Instead we can simply trust that whatever God's plan is for us, we can deal with it because God has made it just for us personally.
You know I love you and you know I asked you to pray for my father to die soon when he was hurt, but this is different.

In my family and in my in-laws family, we all have living wills, plus have designated a health care surrogate.
Hydration and medication to relieve pain are to be continued until death. Feeding tubes or ventilators (if the patient is terminal) are not to be used. DNR (do not resuscitate) orders are to be left to the discretion of the health care surrogate.

The Proper way to handle this case is to make the patient comfortable, and put the food in front of her.
If she doesn't see the food, and eat it, and there is no hope that she will ever see the food or eat it, she should be allowed to die.
Society has no responsibility to maintain the organism when the "owner" has left it for good.
This is just another example of the philosophy "you do not own yourself" working its way along.
It is a dangerous mindset that will permit abuse if not curtailed.
As usual, the "public" has it backassward.

I make up my own mind on things, thank you. Using bad words like you did doesn't win friends and influence people either.
