The Washington, D.C., watchdog group Judicial Watch filed an abuse complaint it says will allow Florida Gov. Jeb Bush to intervene on behalf of Terri Schindler-Schiavo, the brain-disabled woman who is starving under a court order initiated by her husband.
Judicial Watch President Thomas Fitton faxed a "Form to Report Abuse/Abandonment/Neglect/Exploitation" with the Florida Department of Children and Families yesterday then sent a letter to Bush and DCF Secretary Jerry Regier.
The letter said, "Based on our formal complaint via the faxed report referenced above, you have the authority and sufficient cause to immediately order the Florida Department of Children and Family Services to intervene on behalf of Ms. Schiavo; to restore her nutrition; and to initiate a full investigation of the circumstances surrounding Ms. Schiavos disability."
Fitton said these actions are in accord with the U.S. Constitution, the Florida Constitution, Article 2, Section 5, and Florida statutes 825.102 and 782.04(2)(i), 77.04.
The abuse report, under "Description of Incident," says:
Thirteen years ago Terri Schiavo suffered brain damage from a sudden collapse. She receives her food and water by means of a feeding tube. Terri's other bodily functions are stable. She responds to voices, and is capable of smiling, laughing and crying. She vocalizes well.
Terri's husband, Michael Schiavo, has denied her any rehabilitation treatment since 1993. On Wednesday, October 1, 2003, Michael Schiavo directed that Terri's feeding tube be disconnected, subjecting her to starvation and dehydration that will result in an anguishing death in approximately 10 to 14 days.
Judicial Watch is known for its many lawsuits against President Clinton's administration. But the group, led by Larry Klayman, also has taken on the current White House, including a lawsuit to force the release of information about Vice President Dick Cheney's energy task force.
Klayman recently declared he will run for a U.S. Senate seat from Florida.
Legal documents and information on Terri's case are posted on the family's website.

When does Columba Bush return to the U.S. from Rome? Maybe the Holy Spirit has been filling her heart and mind with beautiful examples of just how important "the least among us" and the disabled and ailing really are. Maybe God lead Columba to Rome to hear Pope John Paul II's inspirational words, and be reminded of the selfless giving of Mother Teresa. Perhaps the Holy Spirit is counting on Columba to soften JEB's stance in this matter?
I don't know.
Somebody, please save Terri. Let good triumph over evil.

Special Session Called in State Legislature
Speaker of the House, Johnnie Byrd to introduce Terris Bill
Clearwater, FL October 19, 2003: The Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush, has called a special session of the Florida Legislature for Monday, October 20, 2003. At that time, Floridas Speaker of the House will introduce Terris Bill. By Florida law, two thirds majority vote are required to have a topic entered.
Volunteers with the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation have learned that Senate President, Jim King is against this bill.
The Bill would put an immediate moratorium on all dehydration and starvation deaths currently pending in Florida.
We have come to a time when the merchants of death have created a constitutional crisis and a justice gridlock, while the rightful life of Floridas disabled and vulnerable citizens tragically hang on Terri Schindler-Schiavos court ordered dehydration and starvation death.
We urge all concerned Floridians to contact their Senators and State House members to vote for Terris bill.
Time is short.

No, she's not. Medicaid doesn't provide funding for patients who have $1.6 million medical trust funds.

I don't recall what post I read that Terri is being Medicaid funding, but I did read it. Schiavo had her declared an indigent, but I had wondered too how he could have done that. I'm sure he would have tried to find a way if he could.

No, evil man and the State of FL are sending this woman home. God did NOT call her YET!

If this Judicial Watch action has given Governor Bush legal basis to act, then would it do any good for us to write and/or fax our requests asking him to intervence in the matter in a timely manner? If so, can anyone supply the address and fax number? Also, can anyone supply the correct form the salutation should take?
Does anyone else think this is a good thing to do?

Oct 6, 2003 news release
http://www.notdeadyet.org/docs/fileamicus.html Max Lapertosa, attorney for the 14 amici, says, "A judge's order to terminate the life of a woman with severe disabilities is not a private family matter. Terminating Ms. Schiavo's life support would not be possible without the authority of the courts. This case reflects whether our society and legal system values the lives of people with disabilities equally to those without disabilities."
