You're right. Thanks for posting this,
I hope that everything works out for Terri Schiavo and
that she can be saved from this horror.

Um...Terri's parents want Michael to give up guardianship of Terri and transfer it to them. He would not be liable to pay for her health care if he did that. He would not inherit the money he won from the lawsuit, set aside in trust to rehabilitate Terri, but not spent on rehabilitation.

In other words, the situation is different. All cases are unique. This is not your friend's case. This is Terri's case.

Terri needs tube feedings and water/fluids right now,....and,...

IMMEDIATELY,.....Terri needs to be placed in a Very Highly Enriched OXYGEN Chamber enviornment!

Common sense,......IMHO

My immediate reaction is that I am less than pleased that Klayman has intervened. But I'll gladly hold my nose if it helps save Terri.

Agreed. They're a bunch of ambulence chasers but this time they are chasing the right ambulence.

>>Why would she be required to go through this without morphine of some sort?

Because the husband hates her and this isn't any normal hospice, the attorney for Schiavo was on the board of directors. Since he is pro-death so is the hospice.

Terri was not terminal, so shouldn't have been in a hospice to begin with. A "real" hospice wouldn't have taken her, they take terminal cancer patients and the like, not just someone who is disabled. A real hospice needs the beds and expects regular turnover when people die.

Terri was placed there by the "husband" and Felos the attorney because they knew they could have total control over her medical treatment or lack of it.

Agree 100%. I believe Dr. Neubauer from Ocean Hyperbaric and a neurologist filed a brief about Terri somewhere along the way.

ONE thing I've learned from all this.
I gotta get my living will in order.

Always a good idea, for everyone to do no matter what side of the argument they are on.

Else perhaps a bunch of piss-ant do-gooders may consign me to the horror of years of suffering a living death in a hospital bed somewhere.
There ARE things worse than death you idiots and may all you Pollyanna Rat do-gooders find this out the hard way.

If this woman really was a "vegetable" I would be agreeing with you. But this case is different in that it is FAR from clear how vegetative she really is and that there is a LOT of shady business going on in terms of money settlements and her care (or lack of it)
I'm nowhere near as pro-life as a lot of these people here are (for example, I'm ok with voluntary assisted suicide as long as appropriate controls are there) BUT EVEN I, libertarian death-meister that I am, think that justice is not being served in this case.

If it were you in a hospice, denied rehabilitative care and visits by your family, with your untrustworthy wife eager to cash in on your death (before you had a real chance to see how far you could come back with therapy), you'd probably have a different viewpoint on the "pissant do-gooders".

From a search of The Catechism of the Catholic Church (first 40 references on life

2280 Everyone is responsible for his life before God who has given it to him. It is God who remains the sovereign Master of life. We are obliged to accept life gratefully and preserve it for his honor and the salvation of our souls. We are stewards, not owners, of the life God has entrusted to us. It is not ours to dispose of.

2270 Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person - among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.

My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth.

336 From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession. "Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life." Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God.

2367 Called to give life, spouses share in the creative power and fatherhood of God. "Married couples should regard it as their proper mission to transmit human life and to educate their children; they should realize that they are thereby cooperating with the love of God the Creator and are, in a certain sense, its interpreters. They will fulfill this duty with a sense of human and Christian responsibility."

1524 In addition to the Anointing of the Sick, the Church offers those who are about to leave this life the Eucharist as viaticum. Communion in the body and blood of Christ, received at this moment of "passing over" to the Father, has a particular significance and importance. It is the seed of eternal life and the power of resurrection, according to the words of the Lord: "He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day." The sacrament of Christ once dead and now risen, the Eucharist is here the sacrament of passing over from death to life, from this world to the Father.

» Enter the CCC at this paragraph

2273 The inalienable right to life of every innocent human individual is a constitutive element of a civil society and its legislation:

"The inalienable rights of the person must be recognized and respected by civil society and the political authority. These human rights depend neither on single individuals nor on parents; nor do they represent a concession made by society and the state; they belong to human nature and are inherent in the person by virtue of the creative act from which the person took his origin. Among such fundamental rights one should mention in this regard every human being's right to life and physical integrity from the moment of conception until death."

"The moment a positive law deprives a category of human beings of the protection which civil legislation ought to accord them, the state is denying the equality of all before the law. When the state does not place its power at the service of the rights of each citizen, and in particular of the more vulnerable, the very foundations of a state based on law are undermined. . . . As a consequence of the respect and protection which must be ensured for the unborn child from the moment of conception, the law must provide appropriate penal sanctions for every deliberate violation of the child's rights."

2288 Life and physical health are precious gifts entrusted to us by God. We must take reasonable care of them, taking into account the needs of others and the common good.

Concern for the health of its citizens requires that society help in the attainment of living-conditions that allow them to grow and reach maturity: food and clothing, housing, health care, basic education, employment, and social assistance.

1007 Death is the end of earthly life. Our lives are measured by time, in the course of which we change, grow old and, as with all living beings on earth, death seems like the normal end of life. That aspect of death lends urgency to our lives: remembering our mortality helps us realize that we have only a limited time in which to bring our lives to fulfillment:

Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, . . . before the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

1641 "By reason of their state in life and of their order, [Christian spouses] have their own special gifts in the People of God." This grace proper to the sacrament of Matrimony is intended to perfect the couple's love and to strengthen their indissoluble unity. By this grace they "help one another to attain holiness in their married life and in welcoming and educating their children."

"First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out --
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the communists
and I did not speak out --
because I was not a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out --
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me --
and there was no one left to speak out for me."
~~Pastor Martin Niemoller
(victim of the Nazis)

Is there anything we can learn from this?
When they came for the Catholics?
When they came for the Baptists?
When they came for the fundamentalists?
When they came for the agnostics?
When they came for the physically disabled?
When they came for the mentally disabled?

Just something for all of us to think about -- is this picture larger than we currently see it?

This is all so true, but our American people have immense faith in government -- they pay their taxes faithfully, support their president and Congress, have tremendous faith in judges. In short, they really do seem to believe that the government is there to "help you." They don't think the government would starve anyone unless that "anyone" were a practically-dead "vegetable" to begin with. No amount of facts will change their stubborn minds.

Mikey got off the grace train at some point. He can't do anything about their dissoluble unity, though, because he has (barring a miracle) killed her. All the honeys and love children in the world can't change that fact.

So true, and they have no idea how twisted the priorities are in what gets reported as "news."

I just had my haircut. The stylist had no idea who Terri is, and she's from that part of FL (I'm in OH). When I told her the story, she asked if it had been on the news. I told her that it's been on broadcast news very little, but it's all over the Internet, and you have to go there to learn what's really going on.

I'm just an uneducated country boy from south Alabama and maybe fell on my head too many times during my 24 years in the Army, but didn't we fight World War II to end this purification of the race idea? Are we going to allow the judges to continue to legislate from the bench? Who will they come for next? Probably me. I'm of no use to anyone. A disabled veteran. Redneck (we are always fair game). Southerner (fair game again). Social Security disablity receipient(lower the tax liability in two cases, three if the lying dogs in congress ever pass the concurent pay bill like they promised). Or maybe one of the brethren of the Free Republic. We are all a bunch of trouble makers and right wing radicals you know.

This is a sad episode in the history of our country. Perhaps it signals the beginning of the end.

Just got home. Anything new today? I can't find anything current. If Jeb lets her die, he is as quilty as the judge who ordered her death.

I do not post much, but I wanted to let everyone know that I am praying for Terri...whatever the outcome. I have been raised to see Jesus in every living being and to act accordingly. I am so upset that this poor woman is being allowed to starve in our country. I just can not fathom what has happened to the United States. Terri...I am praying for you.

We're praying with you, Dudley ...

Heavenly Father, the hour for an evening meal is past ~ another day without food or water for Terri. We cannot fathom her agony, dear Lord ~ the agony of deprivation ~ but we know the agony of deprivation is at the hands of her husband. I continue to pray that he will relent, for it seems he has aligned himself with just the right people to make it impossible for anyone to stop this murder.

No where in all of this country ~ indeed the world ~ are legal words or avenues to be found that would bring Terri back from the brink of disaster. That is totally without comprehension for good thinking people, but totally within the realm of an evil that has gripped the world, to be found no matter where we turn. Thank You, Lord, that You tell us that You will not be mocked ~ that whatsoever a man sows, that he shall also reap.

Our prayer is for the rescue of this mother's child and her return to their loving care. Our continued prayer is that this demonic madness be thwarted by the Power of Your Might ~ give the greatest wisdom, Lord, to those still seeking the words to release Terri from her prison ~ lead them to that place, lest this dear woman slip away. Let not our sins be laid upon this woman, for she is without crime. Have mercy, Lord ~ in the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen ...
