President Bush and First Lady, Laura left California yesterday, and arrived at Tokyos Haneda airport (at around 3:00 am, Pacific time), where they were greeted by U.S. Ambassador Howard Baker. The President met with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi for talks on subjects such as international trade and the reconstruction of Iraq. The President and First Lady were dinner guests at the Akasaka State Guest House, where they dined on Japanese steak and Yakatori chicken, sitting on the floor, but were allowed to dangle their legs through a hole in the floor!
Japan is only the first stop in a whirlwind 9 day tour of 6 Asian countries and Australia, and including the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Bangkok, Thailand on Sunday. There are LOTS of pictures, many of which could have been selected as the best, (and which I have tried to assemble in some sort of orderly fashion), so enjoy your Daily Dose of Dubya!!

Thank you so much for these pictures and the good report of our President's safe landing.
I was watching FOX this morning and heard the report about the jets flying with AF1 .. I gasped! I was praying for the President's safety last night, and I saw myself sitting in an airplane .. when I looked out the window - there were our wonderful fighter jets. Whoa!
This scripture just came to mind: "If we know GOD hears us, then we know we have the petition we have asked for". I believe Jesus said that just before he raised Lazarus from the dead.
Anyway .. oWf .. thank you so much for taking this time out of your weekend to allow us to share the President's trip.

Don't know if anyone has answered the question "what is Yakatori" chicken yet, but it is small pieces of chicken, skewered, marinated in a sauce that is soy sauce, garlic and rice wine, and then cooked over open flames. YUM.
Another good dish for Americans to eat is Pork Tonkatsu. Pork cutlet, lightly breaded, served with a sauce - plum, soy, apricot and something else I've never figured out!

Kay, my "lurker friend Pat" told me that her nephew arrived home yesterday! He wanted it to be a surprise, and boy howdy, was it ever.
The neatest thing is he's going to be able to celebrate his Maternal Grandmother's Birthday today, and WHAT a reunion this is going to be!
Thanks all for your prayers. This is a wonderful young man, who gives credit to the Marines for giving his a purpose and skills for his life! I believe he will make a career of the Marines.
Please continue to pray for after-retirement employment for my brother, John.
God bless y'all for your prayers!

I don't usually watch the replays later in the day of Oprah's show, but
Condi was one of her three guests last night. Did you, or others, catch the interview?
There was a young, teenage black girl who, having discovered "this black woman standing behind President Bush," went on a discovery tour about Condi. Brittany (sp?), the girl, had been made fun of by her peers because she loved to study, to read; she goes to the school library on her breaks to get books about Russia, about China -- and she plays the piano, and her father is also a minister - so like Condi! Anyway, Oprah taped a little intro about how much this girl admires Condi, and played it while Condi watched, and then Brittany came out. She is probably somewhere around 13 to 15-ish. The young lady was so overcome that she kept bowing to Condi, unable to stand, and crying ... her parents were in the audience and concern showed on their faces for how overwhelmed their daughter was. You could see the mom wanted to go help her girl, but she didn't; she let her make it on her own. =)
Brittany said in her interview that she had learned from Condi's example and life that it's okay to be smart and to keep studying. As they sat together, Dr. Rice asked her quietly to write to her, and Brittany, almost disbelievingly, said, "Will you write back?" Condi said of course.
It was awesome and it made me cry.

Ingredients: 1kg chicken thigh fillets, cut into 2.5 cm cubes
8 spring onions, cut into 2.5 cm lengths
Bamboo skewers
Yakitori sauce (makes 2 cups)
6 table spoons saki, or sherry
¾ cup dark soy sauce
3 table spoons Morita Mirin Seasoning
2 table spoons sugar
Method: Combine the sauce ingredients in a saucepan and bring to the boil to burn off the alcohol.
Thread the chicken and spring onion alternatively onto to skewers and brush with the yakitori sauce. Grill, basting regularly, till cooked
Shopping: Morita Mirin Seasoning is available in the Asian food section of leading supermarkets nationally.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ From this site: http://japanesefood.about.com/cs/chickendishes/a/yakitori.htm
Yakitori is usually skewered like a kabob. Common vegetable to grill with chicken is negi (leek). Yakitori skewered with negi is called negima and is very popular in Japan. Also, there are mainly two kinds of flavor: tare and shio. Tare indicates basting sauce, such as teriyaki sauce. Shio indicates salt.
Yakitori is a great appetizer. Especially, it goes good with beer.
Making Yakitori (Tare)
Ingredients:(make 4 servings)
2 chicken breasts
1 medium leek
1 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp sake
3 tbsp mirin
3 tbsp soy sauce
*Bamboo skewers (soaked in water to prevent burning)
How to Cook:
Cut chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces.
Cut the leek into 1 inch lengths.
Skewer the chicken and leek pieces in alternating order.
Mix sugar, sake, mirin, and soy sauce in a bowl.
Grill the skewered chicken over hot coals, basting with teriyaki sauce until the chicken is cooked.

It most definitely doesn't suit him. All this time I thought he'd look good in anything, but I was wrong, lol!I agree, but then again, if I had my way, he'd wear one of two outfits all the time:
1. Jeans, cowboy hat, boots, the whole cowboy getup.
2. The flight suit. :-)
