t. My question is this: Do we want our elected officials engaging in it? Do we we want our elected officials to set a precedent like that? I'm probably not expressing my idea as clearly as I'd like-- but that's a slippery slope that I'm leery of.

There are all sorts of slippery slopes in this world.

Imagine if the civil rights activists of the 50's had worried about the slippery slope!!!

Do we want politicians who let their citizens be mistreated, or do we want politicians who stand up for them, like Mayor Ben West?

On April 19, Z. Alexander Looby's home was destroyed by a powerful dynamite blast. [Looby was the lawyer who represented those who were holding sit-ins at lunch counters in Nashville].

Looby was considered to be fairly conservative, so the bombing enraged not only the black community but many whites as well. 2,500 students and community members staged a silent march to City Hall that day.

When they reached it, Mayor Ben West was waiting for them. Diane Nash asked him, "Do you feel it is wrong to discriminate against a person solely on the basis of their race or color?" West said yes.

He later explained, "It was a moral question -- one that a man had to answer, not a politician." Nashville merchants were somewhat relieved by West's answer. "The merchants were afraid to move on their own, were almost looking for an excuse to say `Well if that's what the mayor thinks, then maybe we ought to go ahead,'" explained Bernie Schweid.

A few weeks later on May 10, six Nashville lunch counters began serving blacks.

Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

25:42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: [snip]

25:45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did not to one of the least of these, ye did not to me.

>>I have also asked for the wisdom to see why it is permissible to do this to a human, but if we allow a dog or cat to starve to death, we would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Obviously, I'm just not smart enought to "get it."<<

It is because the war is spiritual in nature: the angelic, the righteous, the godly, against all that is demonic.

And you can take that to the bank.

Go read Ephesians 6: it plainly states that the war is against spiritual wickedness in high places.

But it is not swift; the patient must be close to death,

As we know, Terri wasn't close to death.

This from the Hemlock society describes my mother's situation very closely-

Was your mother close to death already, like they suggest?

Terri was not close to death.

From the Hemlock society

PRNH is a choice; [snip] But it is not swift;
the patient must be close to death,

The constant sedation will.

Why the sedation people in comas dont need sedation.
I am assuming that it will cover up her agony as she starves to death. Tske off the sedation and let her flail around because she is starving and get it on tape AND SHOW IT TO WHO WILL EVER PUT IT ON THE AIR before judge greer can ban it

>>I still want someone to name one legitimate, useful thing that Jeb Bush can do-- just one.<<

Here's one. He could and should at least make a public press statement decrying this atrocity.

That would be a nice start. But maybe that wouldn't be "politically expedient."

Come to think of it, has there been ANY politician who is in office, make a speech decrying this atrocity? Or is it just business as usual?

"Oh well, an American is being legally starved to death, I wonder if Queer Eye for the Straight Guy is on? That show's so funny."

We live in dark, sick, twisted times.

Oh, I forgot. We already kill disabled people, even those who have expressed an interest in living.

And even Wesley doubts that we can go back in time, change the rulings and their meaning, that is.

Come to Ireland. :-)

Or more simply, the secular world's reason for existance is to revoke the Gospel of Jesus Christ; there is no other issue.

Does your cousin's husband have any idea how to prosecute this crime against the marriage laws? Can Jeb do something because breaking this law is a crime? That would be new evidence for an appeals court to consider. It needs to be argued in a court. Couldn't Jeb with this info in hand, go and send in the National Guard to rescue Terri until the marriage court could rule against Schaivo, or the criminal court while it's going through its proceedings? Terri could have her feeding tube reinserted until after those hearings have been held.

You're a shill for the Death Culture, IMO.

I agree with you. We have them showing up here now and then. They love to put out their slimy garbage about peaceful deaths, and no suffering from dehydration.

Thanks for catching this one in action.

I keep thinking about the German cicizens during WWII..."The law's the law, there's nothing we can do."

I also keep remembering, I read somewhere that the right to life is "inalienable."

Now, where did I read that?

Yes, nothing like Nazism could ever happen again. Could it?

Well if you think it is ghoulish to suggest removing organs from children before they are dead, or in other words to kill them for their organs, then read the latest in the medical journals.

Because that is where this dehumanization of brain damaged people is leading us all.

That's the unfortunate thing about precedent....it seems to encourage the entrenchment of some pretty nasty practices.

Is Ireland doing a good job of holding euthanasia at bay? ( I'd imagine it is, if you are suggesting it.)

Is Ireland doing a good job of holding euthanasia at bay?

I'd say so. The right to die sites hate Ireland...

"American Unitarian Minister faces charges in Ireland

Ireland will start extradition proceedings within the next fortnight against an American Unitarian minister George Exoo, who assisted in the suicide of a Dublin woman, Rosemary Toole, last year. It marks the first time a state has sought the extradition of anyone aiding suicides anywhere in the world.

The Reverend George Exoo could be tried in the republic under the Criminal Law (Suicide) Act 1993 and could face 14 years in an Irish prison if he is convicted.

Irish detectives traced the 'exit bag' used in the assisted suicide, to Evelyn Martens in Vancouver, Canada. Police in British Columbia have arrested Martens in connection with other assisted suicides in North America.

The ball starts rolling over the next two weeks. The files go to the DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions). We are confident he will support our extradition request and then we go back to the US and ask the American courts to let us take Exoo back to Ireland," one of the inquiry team told The Observer.

Exoo, who belonged to the organisation Compassionate Chaplaincy, has admitted his role in the assisted suicide. He said he has 'nothing to hide' and is prepared to meet Irish authorities over the death. He preaches at the New River Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship in Beckley and Lewisberg in West Virginia.

Living wills are not legal in Ireland. The assumption to treat and for life is still an assumption there.
