Germans Lap Up Claim That US Plotted Sept 11

Germans lap up claim that US plotted Sept 11

By Kate Connolly in Bonn
(Filed: 17/10/2003)

A former cabinet minister is drawing huge crowds and stoking the fires of anti-Americanism in Germany with a book arguing that the US government mounted the Sept 11 attacks as part of a plot to win global domination.

Andreas von Bülow has gone even further than Michael Meacher, Britain's former environment minister, who claims the US knowingly failed to prevent the attacks.

Von Bülow, 66, believes that Sept 11 was staged to justify the subsequent wars on Afghanistan and Iraq.

"If what I say is right, the whole US government should end up behind bars," he says.

The German government has made no official response to the book, although ministers have tried to distance themselves from his views.

But von Bülow's ideas are very popular and polls show a fifth of Germans believe Washington ordered the attacks.

The CIA and September 11, written mainly from internet research, is a besteller, with sales of more than 100,000.

Do you think that the worlds largest exporting nation is not able to stand a withdrawal of some tens of thousands Americans? Heck, if you want to leave, don´t forget to switch off the lights!

The US Armed Forces are welcome, but NOT NEEDED. So, you all express the wish to leave. WHY DON´T YOU LEAVE THEN?

Oh, that´s what I have often experienced on FR, too.
This must be in the human DNA. Tolerance is not God-given, it must be learned. And not all succeed.

You are referring to socialists, but not to Germans in general, are you? If not, how does it come that 3 out of 4 Germans have a favourable or very favourable opinion of the American people?

And how would you explain that 80% of the Germans DO NOT think that it´s possible that the Bush Administration ordered the 9-11-attacks?

I tell you what I think: you will find a similar percentage of people believing von Bülows BS in EVERY WESTERN NATION!

This guy is certainly holding up all the right signs - "Kick our ass, again. Please!" - "Bomb us now!"

Why should anyone want to bomb/kill someone who just expresses his opinion, peacefully and without intention to harm anyone?

Is it possible that you´re a bit fast when claiming military action, isn´t it?

It's not just the Germans. Robert "commie dwarf" Reich, on Hannity & Colmes last night, refused to repudiate the idea that Bush and his buddies concocted 9-11 at a secret meeting in Texas.

And of course, Ted Kennedy was the original author of that statement.

What you say makes sense - if you ignore history.

If you think about it, it is essentially the same psycholigical fabric as that behind the hatred of Islam towards us: they are convinced that we are morally inferior, with our decadent movies and fashions --- it is they, therefore, who must be ahead. Instead they are weak to the point of impotence. This combination, it seems to me, always leads to hatred.

That deserves to be repeated. If would seem at first glance that we are stuck between two opposing groups. We are not. They both want the same thing. For us to live our lives the way they want us to do.

Keep swinging! Personally I think 80% is pretty good myself.

And I would pull the US soldiers out of Germany because you are all grown up now and you no longer have a major threat parked on your border that you need help with.

I do wonder if Europe can live in peace. Their track record hasn't been exactly wonderful until now but I am willing to risk it

They watch the news from here probably. With all of the bashing from the media and the democrats about Bush lying, no telling what people think.
BTW: This garbage is being spouted in this country too, on some of our anti freeper websites and elsewhere.

Only if you say the magic word.

History - Germany - Nationalism - WWI - WWII.

What happened to Germany with respect to WWI?

What happened to Germany with respect to WWII?

See a trend?

I have no problems with a withdrawal of all US forces of Germany or Europe. They are your nations children and you can place them wherever you want them to be.

But note that we will consider to build up nuclear weapons on our own beginning on that day the US inform us (formal or informal) that they are not going to defend us with nukes in case of an attack with NBC-weapons anymore.

I don´t believe that I will face a continental war here. A war will help noone, deterrence works.

No, I don´t see a trend.

1. raise of German nationalism in the 19th century, directed by the people against the royals.
2. raise of German nationalism in the early 20th century, directed by the Kaiser against the foreign.
3. 1914- beginning of WWI, all European nations welcomed the new war, giving a new generation the opportunity to fight for their nations (royals). During the war, combat did not take place on German soil.
4. 1920- Versailles Treaty leads to an economic disaster for Germany, takes 1/4 of its former size, gives Alsace-Lothringen to France.
5. End of 1920´s/1930´s - Raise of German Nationalism directed against France and the other members of the "Entente cordiale", worldwide economic recession, leading to high unemployment: Hitler becomes Chancellor.
6. 1945- Germany, after a horrible war which destroyed Europe, is completly down, occupied by 4 powers.
7. 1945-2003 there is no such thing like German nationalism, democracy was successfully established, Germany has become a respected member in the league of free nations.

So what about your claim to bomb Germany now?

I believe the US has offered to extend the SDI to include NATO members and was turned down.

If an NBC-weapon were used on Germany then being on the ground would not give us any great advantage anyway. We can be there in a few hours if requested. And I think that Germany and the German army should be able to handle any conventional threats.

I hope you are right about a continental war. But you are wrong about a war helping no one. Otherwise there would be no wars at all.

Now run along.

What is wrong with these people?

More of the same... Hitler had the same type of conspiracy theories.... and Germans love them...

I'd say tHe only missing and missed guy in the present corrus of antiamericanism is Hitler himself. Then the loop of the present worldwide folly will be closed.

You said that that man, who expresses his opinion, is like holding signs "Bomb us now". That implies, that you understand his words as an invitation to bomb those disagree with you. I call that intolerant.

If I may have misunderstood you, show me up my fault.

SDI?

Shield ...?

I KNOW that the US government has given the security promise to us in the 1950´s (to prevent us from building own nukes), and it was repeated several times. Therefore, I still believe that this guarantee is valid.

It was discussed to extend the National Missile Defense to W Europe, but it was too expensive for us.

A war will help noone, I deeply believe in that. But unfortunately, not all understand that. If Saddam Hussein had understood that, he had stepped down before the first missiles reached Baghdad. If Hitler had understood that, he wouldn´t have ordererd strikes against Poland 1939.

Regards,

Michael

SDI Strategic Defense Initiative. An older name for National Missile Defense (now I am showing my age..)

I KNOW that the US government has given the security promise to us in the 1950´s (to prevent us from building own nukes), and it was repeated several times. Therefore, I still believe that this guarantee is valid.

It is. Is the belief in Germany that we have to keep bases there to keep that promice? Just trying to understand.
