Senate Judiciary Committee Set to Consider Illegal Alien Student Amnesty
F.A.I.R. E-Mail Alert ^ | 10/17/03 | F.A.I.R.

Posted on 10/15/2003 7:06:20 PM PDT by CIBvet

The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to consider legislation this Thursday that would provide illegal alien students with amnesty and in-state tuition rates at U.S. colleges and universities. The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act of 2003, S.1545, has support from 35 cosponsors and the bill's original sponsor, Judiciary Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT).

We need your help to defeat this pro-illegal alien legislation. The markup is scheduled for this Thursday, Oct. 16, at 9:30 a.m. Please read our ACTION ALERT .

At his first post-election news conference, California Governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger reaffirmed his opposition to legislation signed by recalled Governor Gray Davis that will permit illegal aliens to obtain California driver's licenses starting Jan. 1. He also expressed support for federal legislation, introduced by Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), that would allow millions of illegal aliens to become guestworkers, and eventually permanent U.S. residents.

Read our ACTION ALERT to learn how you can help fight McCain's guestworker amnesty bill, S.1461, and the House companion bill, H.R. 2899, introduced by Reps. Jim Kolbe (R-AZ) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ).

House Democrats Push 245(I) Amnesty

The House Democratic Caucus' Immigration Task Force held a news conference last Wednesday to call for restoration of Section 245(i), which allows illegal aliens who have found a sponsor to circumvent the normal visa screening process and gain legal residence in the U.S. by paying a $1000 penalty. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), chair of the Immigration Task Force, demanded that President Bush support renewal of the Section 245(i) provision. The last time this was in effect, until April 2001, it led to a tidal wave of marriages, often fake, to take advantage of the loophole.

Section 245(i) rewards illegal aliens for violating the law and serves as an open invitation for those waiting for immigrant visas to jump the line by entering the U.S. illegally and then processing their applications here.

Please contact your elected officials and urge them to oppose efforts to restore this immigration loophole. Use the talking points in our issue brief on Section 245(i) to craft your message.

Upcoming Events:

On Thursday, Oct. 16 at 9:30 a.m., the Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to mark up S. 1545, the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act of 2003.

The DREAM ACT is really the Illegal Aliens Education Entitlement Act. I think Orrin Hatch has been in Washington too long that he's forgotten what he used to stand for, don't you? Its time to send the politicians a message that we don't want favors and special treatment on behalf of those who break the laws of our country. Its that simple.

My elected officials, Feinstein and Boxer, don't care what we think.

Do you know a senator who cares about the attitude of a citizen of another state? If you do I'll contact them.

Isn't that a State's Rights issue? What the H is the Senate and Hatch doing. First he wants to blow up PCs that download music, now this. Utah, Hatch needs to go into retirement.

They're my elected officials too. Since when though, has any politician of either party give a rat's rear end about what AMERICANS think? They don't or else they wouldn't be trying to pander to the illegal immigrant lobby and to compete for the momentary adoration of their activists at our expense.

It should be left up to the state involved. Funny how conservatives like Hatch abandon conservative principles when it comes to ingratiating themselves with those seeking to undermine America.

F*** NO!!!

I had to wait 11 years to get into this country legally and had to wait another year in order to have the right to pay in-state tuition at school!!!

And now they want someone who just crossed the border and enrolled in school to pay the same, just because he/she broke the US's immigration laws???

HELL NO!!!

Then why bother being a law-abiding person and upholding the laws of the United States of America and the State of Missouri???

Might as well go hold up a bank tomorrow if they pass this $#!t.

S.1545 would grant in-state tuition and amnesty to illegal aliens under the age of 21 who have been physically present in the country for five years and are in 7th grade or above and are enrolled in school.

The full amnesty with permanent U.S. residence would come after high school graduation and upon enrollment in some form of higher education or the military.

Those who haven't graduated from high school would be given amnesty to remain in the U.S. legally until they graduate and qualify for the full amnesty or until they drop out of high school and become illegal again.

It is estimated that about 50,000 illegal aliens graduate from high school each year. (Fortunately, the amnesty is not ongoing and would only apply to the illegal aliens who were in the U.S. five years prior to passage of the bill. Newer illegals and future illegals would not benefit, although they would surely be encouraged that they could eventually get their own amnesty law later.)

This amnesty will also eventually allow all these kids to petition for all their relatives (many of whom also are illegal aliens).

Its an outrage that our elected representatives would consider awarding citizenship to those who break our immigration laws. Please call your Representative in Congress and let them know what you think of this.

Nah, that's too obvious.
