Senate Judiciary Committee Set to Consider Illegal Alien Student Amnesty
F.A.I.R. E-Mail Alert ^ | 10/17/03 | F.A.I.R.

Posted on 10/15/2003 7:06:20 PM PDT by CIBvet

The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to consider legislation this Thursday that would provide illegal alien students with amnesty and in-state tuition rates at U.S. colleges and universities. The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act of 2003, S.1545, has support from 35 cosponsors and the bill's original sponsor, Judiciary Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT).

We need your help to defeat this pro-illegal alien legislation. The markup is scheduled for this Thursday, Oct. 16, at 9:30 a.m. Please read our ACTION ALERT .

At his first post-election news conference, California Governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger reaffirmed his opposition to legislation signed by recalled Governor Gray Davis that will permit illegal aliens to obtain California driver's licenses starting Jan. 1. He also expressed support for federal legislation, introduced by Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), that would allow millions of illegal aliens to become guestworkers, and eventually permanent U.S. residents.

Read our ACTION ALERT to learn how you can help fight McCain's guestworker amnesty bill, S.1461, and the House companion bill, H.R. 2899, introduced by Reps. Jim Kolbe (R-AZ) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ).

House Democrats Push 245(I) Amnesty

The House Democratic Caucus' Immigration Task Force held a news conference last Wednesday to call for restoration of Section 245(i), which allows illegal aliens who have found a sponsor to circumvent the normal visa screening process and gain legal residence in the U.S. by paying a $1000 penalty. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), chair of the Immigration Task Force, demanded that President Bush support renewal of the Section 245(i) provision. The last time this was in effect, until April 2001, it led to a tidal wave of marriages, often fake, to take advantage of the loophole.

Section 245(i) rewards illegal aliens for violating the law and serves as an open invitation for those waiting for immigrant visas to jump the line by entering the U.S. illegally and then processing their applications here.

Please contact your elected officials and urge them to oppose efforts to restore this immigration loophole. Use the talking points in our issue brief on Section 245(i) to craft your message.

Upcoming Events:

On Thursday, Oct. 16 at 9:30 a.m., the Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to mark up S. 1545, the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act of 2003.

I thought "compassionate conservatism" was merely a stupid campaign slogan used to grab the political center (and it probably was), but little did I realize that it actually meant "big gov't." The vast majority of Republican politicians don't even pretend to advocate small gov't anymore. Reagan's vision is dead.

The sad reality is NO ONE wants small government. The truth is people like big government but they simply don't want to pay what it costs to have one.

One would think that after three years and no blanket amnesty, you would give it up, but in your small world it's a paranoia you can't get beyond. I suggest you get help for the demons that haunt you

Have you got a surprise coming your way. You are right. Like Bush said he will not sign a "blanket" amnesty. Which of course leaves all kinds of other "bite" size amnesties open for fair game. The very fact that Bush used the weasel word "blanket" should have clued you in that he is NOT against signing other “targeted” amnesties.

It's Funny how the critical reasoning skills of some “so-called” conservatives breaks down when a republican is doing the Liberals work for them. I remember when Hillary suggested after her socialized health care scam went down to defeat that they should introduce socialized health care in small bites..... Oh but never mind. Bush has that good house keeping (R) seal of approval in front of his name.

Ignorance is Bliss.

Precisely. Btw, has he yet to veto anything?

Last I heard Bush has not vetoed a single bill. Amazing, isn't it? Especially so given that the Federal Budget and Deficit are spiraling out of control. If I'm not mistaken, Bush has set a new record in this category.

The sad reality is NO ONE wants small government.

I think people like the idea of small gov't. But as you said, they just don't want to foot the bill. The electorate just ate it up when Clinton claimed that "the era of big gov't is over." He told them what they wanted to hear, and they believed the lie. Reagan campaigned most enthusiastically on a small gov't platform, and won both his elections by landslides (and lived up to his word better than any President in recent history). But neither of the Bush's ever said a word about small gov't. The idea (and practice) is completely against their world-view.

Yep, I had heard that before, but found it difficult to believe.

Incredible.

That's why politicians can offer the gravy train without ever once telling the voters how they plan to pay for it. And naturally cause there's no big price tag attached, its no wonder people take them up on it.

It's time to take Hatch's chairmanship. We need to demand it from all our senators across the country. This little plan he's 'hatching' turns Homeland Security into nothing but a cynical partizan pawn in his mind. He doesn't give a fig about his nation's safety. He's failed his country.

That turkey, Hatch, is the reason why Clinton had a record number of judicial appointments, a bunch of creeps, many of whom are corrupt. Hatch could have asked GW to recess appoint judges, the same way Clinton did. This man is creepy. He wants to overthrow the will of my state, Virginia. My state cracked down on illegal alien students. He wants us to not only accept those students but at discount rates, consider them as 'state residents'. A DISCOUNT???!!!

It was foreign students that caused 9-11. Now this turkey, Hatch, wants to FORCE MY STATE to accept ILLEGAL foreign students. I pray to God to protect me from 'friends' like Hatch!

What ON EARTH does Hatch think about our nation's safety? Not a dam%ed thing!

1) Legal Immigrants Right Group Needs to Be Formed ASAP!

2) Said Group Needs to Threaten to Bring a MASSIVE Class Action Lawsuit Against the Federal Government (if These Federal Laws Go Into Effect)

3)The Nature of the Lawsuit Threat Would be To Demand Reimbursement For Their Expenses and Time in Applying Legally for Entry to the US, And Having Waited Legally, Because the Democrats and Cave-In RINO Republicans Are Going to Legitimize All Those Who Come In ILLEGALLY,

So, again, I ask just what is the Republican Party for -- other than winning an election to stay "in power"? I can't figure that out. Grover Cleveland, a Democrat, said in 1888, "What's the use of being elected or reelected if you don't stand for something." And Cleveland was defeated that year too.

"Then why bother being a law-abiding person and upholding the laws of the United States of America and the State of Missouri???"

We shouldn't bother. Our fearless leaders have all but told us they have nothing but contempt for our laws, so why should we be any different? It's getting close to revolution time, when the people will rise up and restore our country to the constitutional republic that our Founders created. All Americans have the solemn duty to save our republic. All Americans, if they have any honor and integrity, will perform their duties as citizens, as so clearly set forth in the Oath of Citizenship:

I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God. In acknowledgement whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.

"F*** NO!!! I had to wait 11 years to get into this country legally and had to wait another year in order to have the right to pay in-state tuition at school!!! And now they want someone who just crossed the border and enrolled in school to pay the same, just because he/she broke the US's immigration laws??? HELL NO!!! Then why bother being a law-abiding person and upholding the laws of the United States of America and the State of Missouri??? Might as well go hold up a bank tomorrow if they pass this $#!t. "

You, IMHO, form the genesis of precisely the movement I suggested!!!

LEGAL IMMIGRANTS WHO ARE NOW HERE WHO FOLLOWED EVERY DETAIL OF THE FEDERAL IMMIGRATION LAW, WITH UTMOST RESPECT TOWARDS THE UNITED STATES, WHO ARE NOW ANGRY AS HELL THAT THOSE WHO DO NOT FOLLOW THE LAWS ARE BEING ALLOWED IN AND BEING GIVEN THE SAME BENEFITS AS THOSE WHO OBEYED!!!

The Federal Government is prepared to basically say "you are a moron and a jerk for doing it legally. You sure wasted your time and money."

And if i were you, I would organize and threaten to SUE the Federal Government for compensation because of their "normalizing" ILLEGAL ALIENS.

The President needs to hear this from you, too.

Legal immigrants waiting in line at INS centers all over the US, waiting to submit their paperwork or interview or pick up stuff, should wear large sandwich signs in English and Spanish: "End of the Line, Mac. No Cuts In Line for Illegals".

thereby granting preference to law-breakers from Nicaragua over any law-abiding American student from another state. Nice.

And yet foreign students who actually obey the law and apply and pay for the proper and legal foreign student visas are punished with higher tuition rates. This government actually encourages law breaking by foreigners. The law breakers get the cheap rates, the law abiders get the high rates. Smart.
