The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to consider legislation this Thursday that would provide illegal alien students with amnesty and in-state tuition rates at U.S. colleges and universities. The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act of 2003, S.1545, has support from 35 cosponsors and the bill's original sponsor, Judiciary Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT).
We need your help to defeat this pro-illegal alien legislation. The markup is scheduled for this Thursday, Oct. 16, at 9:30 a.m. Please read our ACTION ALERT .
At his first post-election news conference, California Governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger reaffirmed his opposition to legislation signed by recalled Governor Gray Davis that will permit illegal aliens to obtain California driver's licenses starting Jan. 1. He also expressed support for federal legislation, introduced by Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), that would allow millions of illegal aliens to become guestworkers, and eventually permanent U.S. residents.
Read our ACTION ALERT to learn how you can help fight McCain's guestworker amnesty bill, S.1461, and the House companion bill, H.R. 2899, introduced by Reps. Jim Kolbe (R-AZ) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ).

House Democrats Push 245(I) Amnesty
The House Democratic Caucus' Immigration Task Force held a news conference last Wednesday to call for restoration of Section 245(i), which allows illegal aliens who have found a sponsor to circumvent the normal visa screening process and gain legal residence in the U.S. by paying a $1000 penalty. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), chair of the Immigration Task Force, demanded that President Bush support renewal of the Section 245(i) provision. The last time this was in effect, until April 2001, it led to a tidal wave of marriages, often fake, to take advantage of the loophole.
Section 245(i) rewards illegal aliens for violating the law and serves as an open invitation for those waiting for immigrant visas to jump the line by entering the U.S. illegally and then processing their applications here.
Please contact your elected officials and urge them to oppose efforts to restore this immigration loophole. Use the talking points in our issue brief on Section 245(i) to craft your message.
Upcoming Events:
On Thursday, Oct. 16 at 9:30 a.m., the Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to mark up S. 1545, the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act of 2003.

Legal immigrants such as yourself have even more reason to be outraged. This is insanity.

Don't feel like the lone stranger, my senators Cornyn and Kay Hutchison (both are republicans) don't care what we say either. I have sent two letters over the last year and yet to get a response.

Orrin Hatch is a traitor. What could be in this for him? Drugs, money, women? I can't figure it out.
Read this, particularly the posts by fellow FReepers herkbird and AuntB (#35 & 36) and their fight to get SS disability.

Second, IF the INS gets off their butts, could this be a way to locate the illegals easier??

S.1545 would grant in-state tuition and amnesty to illegal aliens under the age of 21 who have been physically present in the country for five years and are in 7th grade or above and are enrolled in school. So this is a school choice version for illegals??

Orrin Hatch is the same ignoramus who wants to amend the Constitution to allow foreign-born persons to be elegible for president. Can you say
"President Mohammed"?!? Keep your powder dry.

This will never pass, this will get the media's attention and our elected officials will make supportive statements, but it will never see the presidents desk. 245i is a severely flawed document that was designed to address the backlog of applicants in the INS, but the democrats have twisted it into a free pass for those who bypassed our immigration laws and unfairly ignores those who have followed the letter of the law and are currently trying to legally reside in this country.
The problem is that 10 times more immigrants are here illegally than those who are here legally, and the temptation for our spineless politicians is to cater to the largest possible voting block. SAD Really SAD

But not for the black population of D.C. How come we're not hearing about this blatant act of anti-black discrimination from Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and the NAACLP? God knows they usually are trigger sensitive about even the tiniest hint of racism in the American body politic.

The problem is that 10 times more immigrants are here illegally than those who are here legally, and the temptation for our spineless politicians is to cater to the largest possible voting block. SAD Really SAD That's very true but WHEN are you going to face up to the sad reality that George Bush II is one of those "spineless politicians" that "cater to the largest possible voting block"? Bush has proven over and over again that he is 100% behind Mexico's Invasion of the U.S. What does it take for you to see the light about this president?
You think Bush is not involved with the scores of RINOs and Dims that are pushing one Amnesty Plan after another in Congress? Perhaps you thought Senator Cornyn was joking when he said his Amnesty Plan for Millions of Illegals had the support of the Bush Administration. Truth is Bush wants open borders with Mexico and hyper levels of so-called legal immigration that draws heavily from the 3rd world. Open your eyes.

I have listened to you whine like a spoiled brat for three years now, and to date.... you can not name a single bill that this President has signed that backs up your claim. You are a single issue malcontent that is perpetually suffering from PMS.
Why dont you just give it up and go over to DU where you belong ?

One would think that after three years and no blanket amnesty, you would give it up, but in your small world it's a paranoia you can't get beyond. I suggest you get help for the demons that haunt you

Sorry. The Truth hurts doesnt it? I should have figured you are eternally comfortable wearing those blinders about Bush. BTW, if you are wondering WHY Bush has not signed a Amnesty Bill yet it's because his own party has been bottling up those plans in committee knowing Bush will sign it if it ever reached his desk.
Hint: do some research on the 245 (i) extension amnesty bill that went down in flames last year in the Senate after passing the House by a razor thin vote. Maybe you can also do some research into why the Treasury, over the objections of the FBI, has allowed Banks and other institutions in America to accept the fraudulent Mexican Matricula card that Illegals use to open up bank accounts, get drivers licenses, use for employment etc. etc.

The Gopers who support this should be fired by the people. We expect this Fifth Column stuff from the Dems, maybe the folks who say that conservatives have no party are right. America is going down the tubes if this passes. It is astounding the degree to which our elected officials hate America and the American people. Stunning. Treason in every sense of the word. The worst Generation, the Baby Boomers, has given us the worst, least patriotic politicians ever. What a crying shame!!!
