RED SOX/YANKEES GAME 4 ALCS BASEBALL - Red Sox Win 3-2
Me

Posted on 10/13/2003 4:37:01 PM PDT by mikemc282002

Ok, rain's gone away and it's a beautiful fall evening here in Boston. I've never post anything on FR, so I apoligize in advance if I'm doing it wrong. I don't know anything about pinging or anything like that. Hope the usual suspects find this.

I hope we can move the discussion back to baseball. I'm so tired of Pedro, Manny, Zim, Garcia and the bullpen guy. I think the players have at least temporarily put all incidents aside and will return to playing the game without the extra theatrics.

With that in mind, let me say this: the idea that all Sox fans are English soccer hooligans is as false as saying all conversatives are racists. Most Red Sox fans are extremely passionate about baseball and most of us have Yankee fans as friends, neighbors, co-workers, and even spouses. The media potrayals I've seen in some cases have grossly exaggerated the truth about Boston fans. Yes, we want to win - just ONE DAMN TIME before we all die. Yes, there are a few jerks who get out of hand. But that can be found at Yankee stadium, Wrigley Field, or just about any professional sports event (except Expos games, let's face it no one is even there to fight). At the end of the day, whether the Sox are in the playoffs or 25 games out, it's all about cracking a beer, having a hotdog and enjoying life.

Play ball!

Besides a Cubs-Sox series is too delicious to contemplate. I don't even care who wins, its gonna be HIlarious.

Agreed. I'll definitely be pulling for the Cubs, but should the Sox make it to the Series and suddenly find their mojo, I won't hold it against them too much. As long as it's not the Yanks (feh! *spit*!) ;)

Took 'em seventy frickin years to put lights in there! Gotta love the place.

If the Cubs had made the World Series in '84, all their home games would have been played in the daytime. I don't recall if they would have had home-field advantage. If not, then those games are during the week, which would mean lower TV ratings.

The Yanks will put spike marks in the Red Sox backs tomorrow.

You mean spike marks on a member of the Fenway Parkgroundskeeping crew....

True story - the Cubs were actually set to be one of the first teams to put lights up, in 1941. But after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, P.K. Wrigley donated the lights he had bought - but not installed - to the War Department. And then apparently never got around to replacing them ;)

Hope nobody takes this the wrong way, but Grady Little really does sound like Forrest Gump.

That's cause he's from Charlotte, just like me (now).

Oh yeah! LOL... Who knew animal sacrifice would actually work????

Hey, it worked for the Israelites, why wouldn't it work for the Bosox?

Now that I think about it, he REALLY sounds like that guy Bill on the show "King of the Hill". He's the bald one who always wears the white undershirt.

What do you mean about Nomar? I havent been steady on the game until the 8th

Nomar Garciaparra is normally one the Red Sox' best hitters. He's been doing absolutely awful in the post season! I've read he may be having problems with his wrist, which I believe was injured earlier this year.

Wells will be shelled tomorrow,,,,

Maybe the Yankees should start Jeff Weaver. Leave him in for three innings while the Red Sox are still recovering from the shock and doubling over with laughter. Then put in Wells until he gets in trouble, followed by Contreras.

-- it'd be Clemens vs. Martinez in Game 7 at the Stadium.

Tie goes to the runner.

Actually there is never a tie. You either beat the runner to the base, or you don't. So if there is a "tie" the runner is actually safe, because the ball did not reach the base before the runner.

Wakefield in relief in game 7. If Little doesn't start Pedro on 4 days rest, and the Bosox lose game 7, you'll never hear the end of the second-guessing.

Pedro has to start on Thursday, but I'd damn well bring in Wakefield after Pedro throws 5 or 6....
