RED SOX/YANKEES GAME 4 ALCS BASEBALL - Red Sox Win 3-2
Me

Ok, rain's gone away and it's a beautiful fall evening here in Boston. I've never post anything on FR, so I apoligize in advance if I'm doing it wrong. I don't know anything about pinging or anything like that. Hope the usual suspects find this.
I hope we can move the discussion back to baseball. I'm so tired of Pedro, Manny, Zim, Garcia and the bullpen guy. I think the players have at least temporarily put all incidents aside and will return to playing the game without the extra theatrics.
With that in mind, let me say this: the idea that all Sox fans are English soccer hooligans is as false as saying all conversatives are racists. Most Red Sox fans are extremely passionate about baseball and most of us have Yankee fans as friends, neighbors, co-workers, and even spouses. The media potrayals I've seen in some cases have grossly exaggerated the truth about Boston fans. Yes, we want to win - just ONE DAMN TIME before we all die. Yes, there are a few jerks who get out of hand. But that can be found at Yankee stadium, Wrigley Field, or just about any professional sports event (except Expos games, let's face it no one is even there to fight). At the end of the day, whether the Sox are in the playoffs or 25 games out, it's all about cracking a beer, having a hotdog and enjoying life.
Play ball!

At the risk of sounding like Rush Limbaugh, Soriano is a Latin American ballplayer. Latin American ballplayers simply have no patience at the plate. "Walks don't get you off the island" so to speak.

"Yeah, like anything useful ever gets done at those things."
You've got that right. I have a graphic on my door from Despair.com. It is a bunch of hands piled on top of each other with the caption, "Meetings - None of us is as dumb as all of us" underneath. It is appropriate.

LOL -- I can see Poser now, typing furiously. Pumping fist in the air. Otherwise being a perfectly attentive participant in a meeting.
I vote for the not feeling too well approach.

After tonight, I give them a 60% chance to go the the WS. Whoever wins tomorrow wins the series, in my opinion. Home field advantage hasn't meant much so far. Game 5 is only 16.5 hours from now. I wonder how the sunlight will affect the Yankees' ability to pick up Lowe's sinker.
I will say that it looks like if the Cubs win tomorrow, they'll have plenty of time to set up their rotation for the World Series. I wouldn't like any team's chances facing Prior and Wood in their home park. When's the last time Boston has played in Wrigley?

From a fan standpoint, knuckleballers are the most terrifying pitchers to have on your team - true cardiac inducers. LOL. Perfect pitcher for the Sox right?
I was living in Beantown in Wakefield's 18 win season. The guy was totally unhittable all summer. I went to one game at Fenway where he pitched a 10 inning shutout. Then something happened in september. He had to go to his 75 MPH heater!

Usually I sit and tap on my Palm Pilot. I have about a dozen games loaded. I'm either playing Taipan or Spades. They think I'm taking notes.

But tomorrow's game is key. If the Sox win, they probably have an 80% chance of going to the World Series. If they lose, their chances drop to about 20%. That's how big tomorrow's game in Fenway is. It's going to be real tough to take two in New York - but I think they're good for one.
The Yankees don't seem to be hitting as well these days and I don't think the reason is Red Sox pitching. For once, these two teams are pretty evenly matched.

But when Wells pitches -- the Yanks revert to their true Bronx Bomber selves. I've always wondered about the whole run-support thing. Do you suppose Mussina gets less run support because he's so unemotional? Maybe guys like Clemens and Wells rub off some of their fire onto the players, even if only subconsciously.

1918 World Series (4-2): Boston Red Sox (75-51, AL) defeated Chicago Cubs (84-45, NL) It just HAS to happen.

Torre made a mistake not going with Wells in Game 4. No doubt, and I was all over his case earlier in the day about it. When Torre thinks too much he gets himself into trouble.
