They lost California to Arnold Schwarzenegger - a landslide in the recall election. That's the loss and the reason for anger, tears and political concern. On the other hand, conservative talk host Rush Limbaugh told his listeners, as he signed-off on Friday, that he's addicted to prescription pain drugs.

If that's what constitutes a "win" for liberals, then we have NOTHING to worry about. We gain more and more political power by the day (California was one of their last governmental strangleholds), and they think complete victory is around the corner because a radio talk show host is going to be on vacation for a month, during which time the show will continue to be live every day with guest hosts.

This is the Mainstream Media Shenanigans ping list. Please freepmail me to be added or dropped.
Please note this is a medium- to high-volume list.
Please feel free to ping me if you come across a thread you would think worthy of this ping list. I can't catch them all!

FReegards to El Elrushbo. Are conservatives going to sit back and lose hope right now? I, for one, feel ticked off!
Conservatives will "Win one for the Rush-er."

Rush might come out stronger than ever when he's recovered. And Rush is getting a good look at the USA's terrible drug problem. A lot of good can come from this. Also, people often grow stronger when their leader is taken away for a month.

Just how powerful is Rush? He can be extremely powerful. But he is not The power.

Back when Trent Lott was in trouble, Rush and Hannity both teamed up to defend Lott as hard as they could. Many FReepers turned against Lott. Between the internet and liberal media, the combination brought Lott down, all from a thin accusation about a statement that could be interpreted three different ways. Rush recently pushed for McClintock. God bless him for that. But Arnold won handilly. So no. Rush is not The power among conservatives. But he is a key catalyst for long term conservative growth.

I can't speak for the liberals, or anybody but myself, but for me the issues are that possession of prescription narcotics without a prescription is a Class 3 Felony in Florida, and Rush apparently only decided he had a serious problem when it became public.

Laud him as a paragon of virtue if you please, but he's a hypocrite. The pills he's been gobbling ARE an "illegal drug" if you don't have a scrip, just like any other illegal drug.

You know, here's a thought. If folks are gonna run around outing addicts, why should the Left have all the fun...?

We can't blame Rush's problem on liberals.

We aren't Hillary Clinton, this is no LWC.

That liberals may be pleased, oh well, that's human nature. Not pretty for sure, but unfortunately there have been times when ill has befallen liberals and threads on FR reflected glee or tried to spin it as the liberals way of getting sympathy in order to be reelected.

I wish Rush the best. I hope he beats this addiction. But the problem lies on his shoulders alone, no matter how others react to it.

remember the song on 'Hee Haw' that Buck Owens and Roy Clark use to sing each week? (see below)

"Gloom, despair and agony on me Deep, dark depression; excessive misery If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all Gloom, despair and agony on me."

Wouldn't it make a good theme song for the demos for their coming convention and the election.

"The National Democratic Theme Song"..........lets all sing together as we move forward into the coming 2004 election.

LOL.......just kidding around.

It seems to be a basic lesson of life but I am always amazed when some of the most sophisticated people ignore it. That lesson is:Elevating individuals above others always has its pitfalls. People are not all good or all bad. They are dynamic creatures with talents and flaws. Basing your faith on the preacher is not a good thing. Life is a difficult journey and I haven't seen anyone get through it without getting lost occasionally. Some people are habitually lost while others seen to stray and find themselves lost and make corrections that prevent them form leaving the path too far again. I try to do the later. Rush has been an inspiration, thought provoking, and of course arrogant and insensitive at times but he's one of us just trying to make it through life. I wish him well and will keep him and his wife in my prayers.

I fully expect conservatives to be harder on Rush than liberals, and I expect Rush to be harder on himself than conservatives. Either way, conservatives win the war of ideas hands down.

"They won't cut him any slack because he's spoken out against use of illegal drugs. Sorry guys, there is no comparison. The people using illegal drugs do it for the high."

Nice try, but this doesn't get Rush off the hook. Just read the emails he wrote published in the tabloid: "Going out with a bang." Rush clearly enjoyed the fun effect that OxyContin gave him.

The Drug War laws put Rush at significant legal jeopardy. My question is does this make sense? What is the crime involved?

Rush demands that other drug criminals get arrested, tried, convicted and go to jail. If he really believed in the War on Drugs, he would demand to be charged, plead guilty and demand the longest prison term. What does he do instead, he hires the highest priced and savviest Miami Defense Lawyer out there and is obviously trying some way to AVOID legal jeopardy. There are hundreds of thousands of fellow Americans, who've had their lives destroyed by the drug laws, why is Rush trying to get off?

I have enjoyed listening to Rush Limbaugh for years. He is entertaining, and expresses most of my views in a very articulate manner. He is not my role model, however. If he is guilty of a criminal offense, he should be made responsible for it, under the same consideration or lack thereof, as anyone else under similar circumstances. He should not be made an example of. I do wish him well in his attempt at recovery from his addiction, and I hope to hear him back on the air soon. His mistake/crime/weakness is unfortunate, but it in no way reduces the truth he has articulated. That truth is dependent on no single person. I do enjoy watching the hypocrisy of the left as they, once again, show their lack of tolerance for anything but their own views. The left is crumbling, and the reaction of the left to Rush's troubles proves the point once again....

This is personal and human, but it's being treated with ruthless cruelty by liberals, who not only hate what Limbaugh stands for but hate his very success.

It's not really Rush Limbaugh that they hate.

They hate his fans, who have evolved into a coherent political force loosely centered around Rush's radio persona.

It's the fact that Rush has been instrumental in their exposure and defeat that they hate.

These are but a few examples of the liberal's expression of "compassion", "understanding" and "tolerance". But, as FReepers have said before, these attitudes are reserved by liberals only for those of the correct political persuasion.

There are a series of stories on MSNBC this morning, linked with Newsweek, that are just out and out gloating and wallowing in Rush's setback. It throws any facade of objective journalism out the window.

The article calls Rush a "schlub", a loner, a couch potato, and hopelessly self-absorbed. The main article ends with the line "Limbaugh’s long-running act as a paragon of virtue is over."

Also linked in the story is Jonathan Alter's cocky opinion piece titled "Rush, to Judgment" with the tag line, "It’s been a bad year for bully-boy conservatives. Time for them to taste their own bitter medicine."

Speaking of bitter.

That's a win for liberals. You can hear the laughing and gloating across the country and it's heard with a vengeance on liberal talk shows. As if professional jealousy isn't enough to engender the mountains of hate, they just love tearing conservatives apart when they find out they're human.

The Liberals are nothing but hypocrites

And with 20 million listeners .. Rush may be down .. but he is not out

I'm no liberal but yes, I am enjoying Rush's moment of pain. Oh, he'll outlive it I'm sure, and he'll probably even come out of it smelling like a rose. But it exposes one truism you can't overlook, all you Rush-bots out there who are so into this cult of personality you've lost your bearings: your hero is a junky, a flat-out addict no different from a guy shooting up on the street---he just happens to have more money and better access to drugs. So everytime one of you Dittoheads rails on about the War on Drugs, remember: your hero is a JUNKY. Your hero should be in jail, along with everyone else who ended up in the klink as a result of this insane War on Drugs. You've made your bed, you all . . . enjoy it.

What happened to liberals looking for the "root cause?" What happened to liberals seeing drug addict "victims" who need understanding and support from society? What happened to liberals demanding that people shouldn't be so "judgemental?"
