Subj: One of this year's key Senate Races: New Jersey

Dear NRSC E-Member,

This year, you will be receiving updates from us on key Senate races across the country where we have a good chance to pick up Republican seats. Last week NRSC Communications Director Ginny Wolfe sent out an e-mail announcing the launch of our newest Web site,
http://www.torricelliduck.com

.

We wanted to notify all of our supporters that the New Jersey Senate race is an important opportunity for us. Even if you don’t live in New Jersey, I encourage you to learn more about this race.

The latest polling numbers show that only 28 percent of the voters in New Jersey think Torricelli should be re-elected. They understand the importance of conservative leadership in Washington.

Please take a moment to explore the site at www.torricelliduck.com and make sure your friends, family and fellow Republicans have seen this latest example of the need for a Bush majority in the United States Senate.

Sincerely,

s/Bill Frist, M.D. P.S. Please let me know what you are hearing about other races across the country so that I can pass on the latest information to other e-activists and my colleagues here in Washington.

FROM THE FIELD

BROWNSTEIN: BIKINI BUDGET

http://www.nrsc.org/nrscweb/newsdesk/democrats.shtml

"It's not as tangible an asset as money or good poll numbers. But for a political party, confidence--in its message, its ideas, even its mission--is usually a critical ingredient of success in an election year. Right now, the confidence gap may be the biggest difference between the parties. Just over seven months before the midterm elections, Republicans are swaggering.

BUSH GOES ON REGAIN THE MAJORITY TOUR

http://www.nrscorg/nrscweb/newsdesk/bush1.shtml

President George W. Bush scheduled campaign stops for three GOP Senate challengers this week, as the ABC Political Note reported: "We can't say it often enough: helping Dr./Senator Frist win back control of the Senate is Political Priority Number One for this White House." President Bush headlined events for South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham, Georgia’s Saxby Chambliss and Texas GOP nominee John Cornyn in a whirlwind "Regain the Majority" swing. Next stop . . Iowa.

‘N SYNC . . . OR OUT OF LUCK?

"Three Plains States Democrats top the list of Senate candidates who’ve received the greatest proportion of large-dollar, out-of-state contributions. That fact could leave the trio vulnerable to charges of being overly indebted to the Hollywood-D.C.-New York money axis in a region of the country known for downhome values," The Hill newspaper reports this week. "Democratic Sens. Max Baucus of Montana, Tom Harkin of Iowa and Tim Johnson of South Dakota each received roughly four-fifths of their large-dollar contributions from out-of-state donors, according to the latest financial data filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC)."

Thanks a million for the efforts..... In a few weeks we'll know in Texas who the democrat candidate for Senator will be. I still believe that the GOP nominee Cronyn will win this thing, but it certainly could become interesting.

Thanks for posting this, especially this link which summarizes the races across the country . Disappointed we're not fighting two battles in the northeast and wonder why I thought Dodd was seeking re-election along with Toricelli.

I was going to put it on the regular forum but since it is Campaign 2002, I figured it should go here! Let me know what you think because I am not sure it is going to get wide distribution on this forum for 2002!

That's why I pinged racebannon and nutmeg. Surely they'd know if we're dreaming, LOL. I was also surprised reading that Torricelli is NOT doing well in the polls. I recall hearing he was heads above the rest, even with all the baggage of a possible indictment, but let's consider the source -- CNN.

I guess it is in the proper forum but this forum want get much play until things get more heated down the stretch, imo. I certainly think it is as important as a lot of items that get posted in the News/Activism forum.... Ahhhhh Activism.... What this is is Activism, isn't it? For sure at some point you may want to consider moving it.

Makes you wonder if CNN ever reports the truth! They seem to be getting worse instead of better IMO! And I didn't think that was possible!

IMO, the most vulrunable to least.

Johnson, Tim(GONE!)
Carnahan, Jean(Voted against Ashcroft, sympathy factor is waning)
Landrieu, Mary(barely won last time)
Wellstone, Paul(Broke promise, but MN is still lib)
Cleland, Max(Survivor, but GA is moving to the right)
Baucus, Max(Taylor CAN do it, but it'll be tough)
Harkin, Tom(He has a habit of surviving)
Torricelli, Robert(It's still Jersey a dem/RINO area)
Levin, Carl (I think Rocky can do it. He has the right views, it's just getting the message out and overcoming big money)
Durbin, Richard - Levin's twin. I don't know much about Durkin, but Durbin is lib, even for Illinois.
Rockefeller IV, John - If Jay Wolfe can paint Jay Rockefeller like Gore was painted, he has a shot.
Biden Jr, Joseph - Safe as it gets
Kerry, John - If Weld can't beat him, no one can.
Reed, Jack - From the most dem state in the union.

I am sorry to tell you, but Levin will only be out of office when he's dead. Rockowski is a very weak candidate. Levin is an institution.
