Vance: 'Really obvious' Cruz running for president in 2028

Vice President JD Vance says it's apparent that Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a fellow Republican, is preparing to run for president in 2028.

Polls show Vance is among the top choices among likely GOP voters to become the next GOP presidential nominee. However, he's remained noncommittal, telling NBC News recently that he's focused, at least for now, on electing Republicans in the midterms.

“It is really obvious to me that, at this very moment, Ted Cruz is running for president,” Vance said. “At this moment, I’m not. I’m trying to help elect Republicans. That’s what I’m going to keep on doing.”

Cruz is a solid supporter of Israel and the Iran war. And in recent months, he has challenged a number of influential conservative podcasters, including Tucker Carlson, on those issues. He sought the 2016 GOP presidential nomination but lost to Trump.

RealClearPolitics polling average shows Cruz has 3% support for the nomination, compared to 39.7% for Vance.

Why would Vance pay any attention to Cruz?

I’d say it’s because Vance might be planning a run too.

I thought Cruz was less popular than Gavin Newsom among Republicans.

Things have changed so much since 2015 that Cruz is now regarded as an acceptable choice among Establishment Republicans, when he was viewed as right fringe only a few years ago.

Cruz was the next-to-last man standing after the 2016 Republican primaries, as I recall.

Cruz won't win the nomination, but Vance has rightly gamed-out that Cruz will be going after Vance in the debates about Tucker Carlson & Israel, because the base still largely supports Israel.

It's similar to how Liz Warren took down Bloomberg, even though it didn't help her own numbers.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

Frankly, he's not as intelligent & conservative as Thomas & Alito...and closer to a RINO.

I thought he was going to pull it out in the end. But then the media started to rally around Trump (in their own way) because they figured he’d be easier for Hillary to beat.

Ironically, she might’ve had a shot against Cruz. On the other hand, he was a world class debater who would’ve mopped the floor with her, so maybe that’s what they were afraid of.

Back then, I laughed at Trump but I thought his entrance in the race was a good thing — he’d get the slings and arrows and (hopefully) one of the other candidates would get the time needed to get themselves going before the media crashed down upon them, as they always do with Republicans.

I thought this was settled years ago. As much as I like Crux I believe he is not a natural born citizen.

Good point. But the SCOTUS is going to punt on this issue unless Cruz wins the Republican primary which is never.

If Cruz is not a NBC, then neither is Rubio.

Actually the whole NBC debate was settled when Bammie got elected the first time.

Are you a US citizen over 35? Then you are eligible to be the president.
