Let’s Scrap the Presidential Debates
NewYork Times ^ | Aug 3, 2020 | Elizabeth Drew

Posted on 08/03/2020 9:36:11 AM PDT by RBStealth

Nervous managers of the scheduled 2020 presidential debates are shuffling the logistics and locations to deal with the threat of the coronavirus. But here’s a better idea: Scrap them altogether. And not for health reasons.

The debates have never made sense as a test for presidential leadership. In fact, one could argue that they reward precisely the opposite of what we want in a president. When we were serious about the presidency, we wanted intelligence, thoughtfulness, knowledge, empathy and, to be sure, likability. It should also go without saying, dignity.

Yet the debates play an outsize role in campaigns and weigh more heavily on the verdict than their true value deserves.

Actually, they want sham elections managed by the Deep State, including them.

Paul Ryan and his fans thought it was going to be super easy to debate Biden. It wasn’t. That was years ago and a different Biden. But in the last debate against Bernie, Biden proved he can still debate (under the influence of drugs? or whatever.)

I’ve been following presidential politics since 1980 and it’s funny how the New York Times and the rest of the mainstream media almost always (if not always) declare the Democrat candidate the winner of every debate. Same for the VP debates. Now they are scared out of their wits because they know Biden is not up to the task.

Translation - Joe will wander around the stage looking lost.

True. Biden can still rehash the stuff he’s been saying for 50 years reasonably coherently much of the time. But the Democrat debates really weren’t that adversarial with the exception of a few desperation plays (Kamala Harris’s busing nonsense). Trump will be well coached on how to punch Biden’s buttons hard and get him off his hard-wired programming.

Bhahahahah

Debates are a wonderful predictor of how a President is going to handle negotiations with an unfriendly nation (ie China, North Korea, Russia). But the Dems know this. They are terrified that Slo Joe is going to literally meltdown in front of the cameras. They cannot allow this, so their only option is to get rid of the debates this election. If the shoe was on the other foot, they would be screaming that Trump HAS to debate Biden or he is not fit for the office. This is very telling.

We have all predicted for months that Slo Joe wasn’t up to a debate with anyone especially Trump. Trump will eat him for lunch.

But stay tuned boys and girls, the Presidental Debates will be back in 2024 when they have a functioning candidate that can put together a complete sentence.

Trump campaign manager calls for more debates sooner because of early voting.....
washingtonexaminer ^ | 8/3/2020 | Katherine Doyle,

“We want more debates,” said Bill Stepien, Trump’s newly promoted campaign chief, in a Fox & Friends interview on Monday. “We want debates starting sooner.”....Sixteen states will have started voting by the time of the first debate on Sept. 29, Stepien said.

“We are already seeing the liberal Left, the liberal media, trying to create trapdoors for Joe Biden to escape his commitment and his obligation to debate Donald Trump on a debate stage in front of the American people,” he added. “We want more debates.”

Stepien said on Monday that the campaign would continue the “push” for more televised encounters so voters could “see their options right in front of them” before they cast their ballot.

“Listen, we are going to keep applying pressure to the Biden campaign,” he said. “We take our cues from the American people. The American people in those 16 states that are going to be voting before Sept. 29, they are the ones who want to see candidates on the debate stage.”

Some voters “expect, want, and deserve, a chance to see their options right in front of them on the debate stage, and we join them in that push,” he added.

“The countdown clock may show 91 days left in the race, but in reality, the election starts a lot sooner than that,” he said in a statement. “In many states, more than half of voters will cast their votes well before Election Day, and we have adjusted our strategy to reflect that.”

The debates have never made sense as a test for presidential leadership.

To paraphrase a great man: "There they go again."

Okay, then we’ll just replay all of Joe’s gaffes, and racist comments over the past 40 years.

Of course if it was Trump refusing to debate they’d say the same thing, right?

The New York Times reading the script Biden’s handlers sent them. If Trump had dementia, somehow I think the Times would want debates 24/7. What a shameless dishonest rag!

Exactly. Counting on Biden to have an aneurysm on stage is a mistake. However, it is true that he was able to “debate” with a lot of people on the stage and they don’t call on you all that often. The presidential debates are one on one.
I know they are trying to play it “safe” because they think they have a lead. Then again, something like an hour with Chris Wallace would dispel all these questions, if he’s able.
Teams that play it “safe” usually lose their leads.

While we were on the subject of Biden being senile, has anyone else noticed that the Biden commercials featured heavily edited audio? It’s like they can get him to say only one or part of one sentence coherently.

“they reward precisely the opposite of what we want in a president”

By “we” they did not include you, me or a bunch others.

Their newly found position to cover for You-Ain’t-Black Joe raises an interesting question - does this apply to the demonkrap primary debates for 2020 too? Was Joe rewarded being precisely the opposite of what they wanted in their candidate?

Along the same lines, did you see the thread the other day about reddit having a MEMEs page, where they put up memes from our side, then try to figure the memes out?

They are so stupified, they can’t figure out the (obvious) meaning of the memes..
I spent about an hour reading through that reddit area, and was amazed that they couldn’t ‘decipher’ the simplest of our memes.
