EXCLUSIVE: Poll shows Yvette Herrell and Xochitl Torres Small tied in swing New Mexico House district rematch
The Washington Examiner ^ | July 13, 2020 | Emily Larsen

The race in New Mexico's second congressional district, one of 2020's most closely watched House toss-ups, is in a dead heat.

Democratic Rep. Xochitl Torres Small and Republican businesswoman and former state Rep. Yvette Herrell each received 46% support in a poll conducted by the Tarrance Group for the National Republican Congressional Committee, a summary of which was provided exclusively to the Washington Examiner. Another 8% of voters were undecided.

The poll surveyed 400 voters from July 7-9 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9%.

There are few polls of the House race. A December internal poll from the Congressional Leadership Fund, a Republican PAC, found Herrell ahead of Torres Small by 2 points.

This is the second straight cycle that Torres Small and Herrell will face each other in a general election. The Democratic incumbent narrowly won the rural southern New Mexico district, which encompasses Las Cruces, Roswell, and areas with booming oil and natural gas production industries, in 2018 as part of the Democratic "blue wave." Former Republican Rep. Steve Pearce, who held the seat for 14 of the previous 16 years, left the seat to run for governor that year.

Early results that year gave Herrell an edge, but the inclusion of absentee ballots led Torres Small to a 3,500-vote victory. Donald Trump won the district in 2016 by 10.2%, making it a prime target for Republicans to flip back to the GOP.

"While the candidates have similar favorable ratings as the campaigns head into the last four months of the race, Torres-Small comes with considerably more baggage," said the pollster's executive summary memo, referencing Herrell having a better net favorability rating than Torres Small.

“The pronunciation aside, everyone should understand its political significance.

It’s a Nahuatl name - i.e., Aztec. That’s the name of the Aztec language.

The Reconquista movement in this country is based on an Aztec origin myth - Aztlan. They claim North America is Aztlan, at least the Southwest when pinned down.

It’s no accident that her parents named her that. It means they are Chicano militants. It’s a roots name that takes them back to the claim that they are the indigenous here - the Northern Southwest and Plains Indians be damned - those too were their enemies.

The absurdity of calling her an “American” and letting her have a seat in the US Congress is beyond belief. She has one goal - overturn the US Constitution, use it against the Americans to reverse their “occupation” of “stolen land” and cede it to the rightful Aztec owners.

The 14th Amendment doesn’t compel us to label our enemies as “citizens of the United States”. There’s nothing American about her, anymore then Reyes Tijerina or Corky Gonzalez”.

Thank you for telling it like it is. Too many on our side have no idea what we’re up against.

There’s nothing American about her, anymore then Reyes Tijerina or Corky Gonzalez”.

I lived in Abiquiu when Tijerina was active. My Dad put him in his place a few times.

From another post.

Far-left, abortion up-to-birth Rep. Xochitl Torres Small is also another benefactor of EMILY’s List, which has endorsed her for her unashamed abortion up-to-birth policies, previously when she worked for Planned Parenthood, and currently as she serves as an anti-life member of Congress.

Where would you classify her? Started to contact her re something and when doing background knew she would no listen to a conservative.

Just wondering?

Was in Durango a little bit ago. Meant to get down to Abiquiu, it’s heart breakingly beautiful there.

We now have many Tijerina’s occupying positions of power in the United States. In 1970 the idea that they could take over seemed so far fetched, my parents just laughed about it. Said the Chicanos had been acting up since the late ‘40s, don’t worry about it.

They had no idea what was coming: the Invasion.

“Too many on our side have no idea what we’re up against”

No they don’t, and they really don’t understand the character of Mexico and South America. In their world, only weaklings give up, and if you are weak, you are dead.

They don’t plan to be dead.

They plan to take what they couldn’t make.

Yep, that’s the one. I’m STILL pissed she “defeated” B-1 Bob Dornan.

Excellent points and spot on!

The Useful Idiots/SJW crowd are going to learn the hard way what happens to Useful Idiots once they are no longer needed.

One of the most egregious examples of voter fraud in CA, which has become routine (as I’ve pointed out countless times, no federal Demonrat incumbent in CA has been defeated by a Republican since 1994).

Dornan, however, took for granted his reelection and should’ve been focused on running there instead of his quixotic run for President, which was a huge mistake.

Loretta Swit played Hot Lips Houlihan on M*A*S*H. I don’t know who Loretta Swift is, but Loretta Sanchez’s married name was Loretta Brixey; she decided to go by her maiden name when she ran against Bob Dornan and stole the election through illegal votes, and she divorced Brixey a few years later.

Not to worry folks. Las Cruces will produce however many votes it needs to put Xochitl over the top again.

P. S. I’ve always heard it pronounced “Ho Cheatll”..... which seems appropriate.

I notice she still managed to work a version of the 0bama logo into her name on that image, despite trying to look like a ‘good ol’ girl’..

Trump will win this seat easily and I see no reason Small would get enough crossover (which is on a sharp decline) to win, I don’t expect old Colin Peterson to survive either but he at least is longtime moderate who is personally popular in his seat. This is just some bitch who “won” by a hair in rat wave election. This is one of our likeliest gains and I hesitate to call it a “tossup”.

As I showed last week, NM State is there-—but won’t be there. Multiplying the students 11,000 x 60% D x 30% decline in student presence means that this race, decided by a mere 4,000 votes, will almost certainly flip IF ONLY because of a smaller student presence.

YEP Dems stay winning with “found” ballots. this is such a disgrace. There needs to be a FEDERAL LAW that early voting is done, it’s all same day voting and only absentee for those legit out of the country for military or business.
