The race in New Mexico's second congressional district, one of 2020's most closely watched House toss-ups, is in a dead heat.
Democratic Rep. Xochitl Torres Small and Republican businesswoman and former state Rep. Yvette Herrell each received 46% support in a poll conducted by the Tarrance Group for the National Republican Congressional Committee, a summary of which was provided exclusively to the Washington Examiner. Another 8% of voters were undecided.
The poll surveyed 400 voters from July 7-9 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9%.
There are few polls of the House race. A December internal poll from the Congressional Leadership Fund, a Republican PAC, found Herrell ahead of Torres Small by 2 points.
This is the second straight cycle that Torres Small and Herrell will face each other in a general election. The Democratic incumbent narrowly won the rural southern New Mexico district, which encompasses Las Cruces, Roswell, and areas with booming oil and natural gas production industries, in 2018 as part of the Democratic "blue wave." Former Republican Rep. Steve Pearce, who held the seat for 14 of the previous 16 years, left the seat to run for governor that year.
Early results that year gave Herrell an edge, but the inclusion of absentee ballots led Torres Small to a 3,500-vote victory. Donald Trump won the district in 2016 by 10.2%, making it a prime target for Republicans to flip back to the GOP.
"While the candidates have similar favorable ratings as the campaigns head into the last four months of the race, Torres-Small comes with considerably more baggage," said the pollster's executive summary memo, referencing Herrell having a better net favorability rating than Torres Small.

How does one pronounce “Xochitl” ?
So-she’ll
DUMBASS PARENTS.
Thanks.
LOL. Its like spanglish for Moon-Unit or Chastity.
so-chit-l
Thanks for that.
Three of them sounded pretty similar, like “show-chick,” with the accent on the first syllable.
The last one is how I have always heard it.
Ok.
Thanks CedarDave.

Wow, where have we heard that line before...? (sarcasm)
There are at least two seats in New York that could be flipped back to GOP after 2016, perhaps more. Unfortunately the NYS GOP state party doesn’t exist
The pronunciation aside, everyone should understand its political significance.
It’s a Nahuatl name - i.e., Aztec. That’s the name of the Aztec language.
The Reconquista movement in this country is based on an Aztec origin myth - Aztlan. They claim North America is Aztlan, at least the Southwest when pinned down.
It’s no accident that her parents named her that. It means they are Chicano militants. It’s a roots name that takes them back to the claim that they are the indigenous here - the Northern Southwest and Plains Indians be damned - those too were their enemies.
The absurdity of calling her an “American” and letting her have a seat in the US Congress is beyond belief. She has one goal - overturn the US Constitution, use it against the Americans to reverse their “occupation” of “stolen land” and cede it to the rightful Aztec owners.
The 14th Amendment doesn’t compel us to label our enemies as “citizens of the United States”. There’s nothing American about her, anymore then Reyes Tijerina or Corky Gonzalez.
Mayan/Aztec name
You can tell right off the bat that it’s a communist you’re dealing with when it’s a Mayan/Aztec name instead of a (Spanish) Christian name.
Puke. The RATS took it literally when we posted memes during the 2018 election saying Democrats should cast ballots the day AFTER the election.

Having the name "Xochitl" is probably much more ballot friendly for the "BROWN PRIDE!" crowd, in much the same way "Beto" O'Rourke came up with some phony "childhood nickname" to get more hispanic votes and Loretta Swift changed her name to Loretta Sanchez while running in Southern California.
Per wikipedia, the much LESS ballot friendly name "Yvette Herrell", her Republican opponent, is actually a member of the Cherokee Nation, so ironically she probably has far more "Native" Indian than "Xochitl". I would encourage both gals to both take a DNA test for ancestry on the campaign trail, the results should be interesting.

The problem is she is NOT running as an far-left AOC type communist "Progressive" RAT. She is well aware the district is conservative leaning and went to Trump, so she is running as a "conservative" RAT and running ads portraying herself as a pro-2nd amendment gun enthusiast and so on. The burden is on Yvette Herrell to go thru Xochitl's voting record and prove she is NOT the "centrist" RAT she pretends to be. Voters are easily fooled.
