During Game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday night, President Donald Trump's campaign launched a seven-figure national ad buy -- a 30-second commercial touting his first-term accomplishments on terrorism, the economy and immigration.
But the real key to the ad -- and the bit that you need to pay very close attention to -- comes in the final moments of the commercial, when the narrator says this:
"He's no Mr. Nice Guy. But sometimes it takes a Donald Trump to change Washington."
Those two sentences are hugely telling when it comes to understanding how Trump (and his campaign) are going to position him in the race for a second term next November.
What's clear from that tag line -- "no Mr. Nice Guy ... sometimes you need a Donald Trump" -- is that the campaign understands how poorly the President is perceived on a bevy of personality traits. He's not seen as friendly. Or kind. Or empathetic. Or even really, someone you'd want to spend a bunch of time around.
This ad tries to turn those traits on their head. Rather than being regarded as a negative for Trump, his campaign is trying to argue that in order to fix a place as broken as Washington, you need someone who doesn't care about whether you like him. Or whether anyone likes him. Who only cares about results.
In a bumper sticker, the campaign messaging that this ad appears to preview goes like this: Yes, he's a jerk. But he's a jerk who gets results!

The leftstream media is waking up to the fact that Trump has lit them up along with the rats as the target.
I don’t know that song, but I’ll give a listen.
I expect we could come up with a long list of wonderful songs he could play. It would be a riot.
He left out the part where pictures of Nan and Chuckie are shown with their impeachment faces on, doing nothing for the American people. I thought it was darn near a perfect commercial.
If you know independent executives, you know it comes with the territory.
They’ve never had to answer to anyone but everyone answers to them. They’re demanding and quirky.
Yet they are smart enough to see and reward those who deliver results.
This is who President Trump is and that has probably not changed over decades. But he enjoys sparring with peers and hearing different ideas. He’s a fast study, sometimes too fast. But often, he will catch others off guard.
This is how it goes.
Trump 2020!
I have the song linked in post 43 for you. 8>)
Cillizza needs a wake-up call.
======================================
Donald Trump competed and succeeded in some of the nation's most predatory businesses:
<><> 14 years at the top of the ratings in his reality TV show. Not an easy feat if you know anything about the cut-throat business of TV.
<><> building and financing billion dollar realty projects in the dog-eat-dog world of real estate development.
<><> Hugh Hefner of Playboy fame, Barron Hilton of hotel fame and Bob Guccione of Penthouse COULD NOT
GET A/C casino licenses, b/c the vetting is so brutal. Trump owned four A/C casinos and other casinos elsewhere.
Mueller was looking in the same places the super-smart casino licensers were looking---that's why he found nothing.
The people Donald has had to deal with and outwit to succeed in these disparate venues make these politicians look like mental midgets.
I count Cillizza and the MSM among these mental midgets.
Hey Cillizza, you dirtbag media idiots dont care one whit that Hillary or Obama are both nasty jerks, especially Hillary, but you voted for her and want her in because you think shes the better person for the job. Well, Ill take Trump over Hillary any day of the week! Get over it, man! Hillary is a loser and a witch!!
wasn't that a line from Batman???

OK, that was pretty bad so here is some ear wash in case you listened to any of that.

Speaking of jerks, here’s Chris Cillizza’s latest spew.
The ad is correct, but not quite the way Fake News CNN portrays it.
Trump is the outsider, the non-politician whose entire career has revolved around seeking positive outcomes in the real world. Now, he’s doing that for the country instead of his own company.
Yes, the country needs a Trump. It has for a long, long time. What we don’t need is another DC insider like Obama who promises great things and delivers a sack of ****.
Cillizza writes what he is told to write.
The fiction he writes comes from the deep state to the media bosses to the editors to the writers.
Cillizza doesn’t think.
He gets a handsome paycheck for cranking out deep state narratives in a timely fashion that appear to be his opinion.
He's going to run as an outsider to fix a broken and dysfunctional Washington D.C. even though he's the incumbent.
His bumper sticker should be: Not Mr. Nice Guy, but the Right Guy.
*** "(BAHN-KAI) Translated to "full release" from Japanese. It is the highest form of power that can be reached within a God of Death, granting them an extreme but limited power. Before the Release of a Bankai it is normal for the Shinigami (God of Death) to shout "BANKAI" at the top of their lungs."
You don't even realize that what Trump's commercial intended to do, was to trigger the opposition and get MSM intelligentsia like you to TALK about the commercial. He knew your story would be full of nonsense that paints Normal Americans as idiots. Those Normals, in turn, reading your spin, will respond "yep..Trump IS right about the media."
In essence, you just gave Trump more of a lift than would have happened had you just shut yer big fat yapper. Thank you.
Chris, based upon your track record, you know approximately nothing. You know only the inside of your rancid little brain cavity, a dismal place where low-level thoughts based on envy and resentment breed and multiply. And once they leave their larval state, ooze forth from your mouth like the contents of an irritating chancre sore, leaving behind whatever shell or cocoon or other discarded body detritus, so that the next iteration of what you imagine to be deep thought will be properly seeded.
Chris, buddy, you know who’s going to re-elect Trump? You are.
