O’Rourke’s proposal would hand victory to Trump
The Record-Courier ^ | October 16, 2019 | Michael Gerson

Beto O’Rourke, innovative for interpreting a failed Senate campaign as a steppingstone to the presidency, is now famous for (1) his use of profanity on the campaign trail, (2) his pledge that “hell, yes” he wants to confiscate AR-15s and (3) his proposal to tax religious institutions that don’t approve of gay marriage.

This is not the normal substance of presidential ambitions. Few young people nursing political dreams say: “When I grow up, I want to be a foul-mouthed, overreaching, anti-religious culmination of every exaggerated liberal stereotype and the embodiment of every fevered conservative nightmare.” Perhaps O’Rourke was just precocious in that way. It is more likely, however, that he was led in this direction by the increasingly desperate pursuit of a spotlight that fell on him once, and briefly.

Some responsible Democrat needs to sit O’Rourke down and tell him it is not worth winning the Democratic nomination in ways that guarantee a reelection landslide for Donald Trump. And that it is not worth losing the Democratic nomination in ways that badly hurt the eventual Democratic nominee.

The loyalty and enthusiasm of Trump’s base of support in the GOP — especially among white evangelicals — are ensured by apocalyptic fears. The election of a Democratic president, the story goes, would end America as we know it, and usher in an era of anti-Christian persecution. By this logic, conservative Christians view Trump as a thug who fights in their favor.

Trying to warn him, off. Too late, everyone already heard what he had to say. We know that's the agenda of all the Democratic candidates, they just won't say it out loud like he foolishly did.

There are no responsible Democratic candidates anymore.

Beto is just a little bit crazier than the rest of them.

The lunatics own and run the Democrat asylum.

It’s like finding Bigfoot :)

I’ve heard there are a few local D congressmen down south that are even pro life.

But like I said, you could start a TV series “The Hunt for Sane Democrats in any office” it would take so long to find them

I do know one Democratic Congressman in my state who is sane.

However, in public he sounds as wacky as any of them and he votes with the Rat Pack 100% of the time.

If the locals found out he had an ounce of sanity he would be primaried in a heartbeat.

He is a lifer—the pay, benefits, perks (and occasional bribes) are good—so he won’t do anything to draw attention to himself. He likes to focus on boring constituent service stuff. To him it is just a boring job to pay the bills—in any job you say what you need to say to keep the bosses happy.

Your TV series could run forever along with “The Hunt for the Loch Ness Monster”.

All you have to do is look at the horrific decisions against Christians in Canada and Britain to know those fears are real. All you need are "social credit" scores as China is doing to see the future for Christians. All you need is to see the Deep State spying on a duly elected president and their attempts to run him out of office to see how close our federal government came to being run as an unelected totalititarian state.

These aren't just apocalyptic fears. These are connecting the dots of the so-called "New World Order" and realizing our freedoms are dangling by a thread, even in the United States.

I would offer the observation that in the majority of states....a majority of Democratic voters are ‘lite’ dedicated to the Democratic strategy and agenda. Just on the gun issue alone...probably a quarter of Democratic voters in the south have Beto-banned weapons in their possession and have no desire for banning to occur. If the party adapts to that proposal....these folks won’t vote for their candidate.

Um, yeah, that's right. It's pretty much inarguable, and I'm not even an Evangelical.

Please note that Beto didn’t come up with this stance. The question, pre-existing in the Dem Party, was lobbed at him. He didn’t have a choice on how to answer because he knew the orthodoxy required: rabid animus toward religion.

And his “correct” answer was met with raucous applause from the room of fellow God-haters, aka Democrats.

***he wants to confiscate AR-15s***

If they ever get an anti-rifle law that sticks, rest assured they will then go after the handguns, which was their REAL target between 1962 and 1986. “Rifles will not be affected!” they said way back then, till they cast their covetous eyes upon them.

Exactly. They’re all thinking it. The hard Left Democrat voter base supports all of it.

It’s just that because he was desperate for attention, drunk driving Irish Bob actually said it.

If Beto is sincere, he will volunteer to head up raiding parties by leading “law enforcement” up the sidewalk, standing on the front porches of those not wishing to sell, beating on the door, and demanding entry to seize the occupants’ guns.

This wasn’t successful by King George III in 1775. It won’t be successful now either.
