Donald Trumps presidential campaign in 2015 had no pollster, rapid-response team or fundraiser. A bare-bones staff fueled by pizza and energy drinks toiled in a makeshift office at Trump Tower. His opponents vastly outspent him - and lost.
But as president, Trump's campaign machine has dramatically escalated, powered by a historically large war chest of donations large and small that has given him a head start over the eventual Democratic nominee.
At this point in the last election, Trump's campaign employed 19 consultants. Now, there are more than 200. When Trump had all but locked up the nomination by May 2016, he had spent $63 million. Thus far, pro-Trump committees have spent $531 million.
Trump's overflowing coffers have allowed him to spend lavishly early in the race. For instance, the committees recently launched $10 million ad offense targeting Democrats, including former vice president Joe Biden.

I just hope that this is a good thing.
Stay away from the brain-dead GOP idiot consultants.
We need 25% of the people who have never donated, to make their first donation to Trump.
The left can kiss my sphincter.
Are those two authors seriously real??? LOL!
seems like a lot of money to have spent already for??? should be spending it on registrations in battleground states, maybe they are
Every one of those “consultants” needs to be cleared on a background check, and monitored constantly... sub rosa. There has to be several rats among them— working for dnc and worse.
Got that right. The last thing we need are Bush-era consultants like Charlie Black and Mary Matalin working their RINO loser magic.
I’m a consultant. Just ask me.
Amen.
Money is good but passion is better. I’m not too concerned about the Trump campaign overspending on consultants, only to get bad advice. I think that Trump will stick with the consultants he trusted last time. Any new consultants probably worked with his opponents last time and he saw firsthand how poor their advice was in 2016.
Ugh.
Bannon did a good job, but the deep staters targeted him, and got their own guys in. The deep-staters have fed Trump one dirtbag after another.
I just saw where the RNC spent very little in Minnesota for Trumps election in 2016. Now it will be in the tens of millions.
well, i think the following are good things”
“Trump still enjoys those advantages. But he now has internal polling, a system to test messages on Facebook to figure out what ads resonate most with voters and a rapid-response team tasked with mounting a public relations offensive at a moment’s notice.”
Remember Trump did not have to obey certain campaign laws in 2016 because he was “self-financed”. This time, he’ll be more restricted but...
TWITTER IS FREE!
Trump can tweet all he wants and it only costs electricity. The media is still dumbfounded over the fact that his tweets can’t be ignored yet every tweet they report on is essentially free campaign advertising.
I think the Trump campaign is sending out ads this early because they know they have all the money they need so why not spend now to blunt the impeachment narrative?
It's not. GOP consultants are the ones the destroyed Sarah Palin. Probably on purpose.
