President Donald Trump reacted to Robert “Beto” O’Rourke’s gun confiscation talk by suggesting “Dummy Beto” sank any chances for gun control legislation.
Breitbart News reported that O’Rourke used the September 12, 2019, Democrat debate to say, “Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15.” The next day he elaborated on the statement, making clear that turning over AR-15s would be “mandatory” if his plan were in place.
On September 18, 2019, Trump tweeted: “Dummy Beto made it much harder to make a deal.”
He added that Beto’s comments “Convinced many that Dems just want to take your guns away.”
A memo of White House / DOJ gun control ideas became public Wednesday, showing requirements that closely resembled those contained in Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) gun control bill. Attorney General William Barr tried to get Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) to support the push, but Cruz would have none of it.

Nonsense. There never were any chances for bipartisan gun control legislation. Democrats would always want more than the Republicans would be willing to give.

Um....no. But it makes for a great soundbite and ties the rats to gun confiscation. Since none of Dummy’s opponents said anything about this, Trump will use it to his advantage in 2020.

Basically what he did is make it possible for the GOP to ignore the gun control demands and blame Beto.
The President uses everything to attack Democrats as each situation unfolds. He has them in knots.

More likely he is rubbing Beto’s nose in it, making dems think he (POTUS) was all ready to support some kind of gun control, until Beto went waaay over the top. In other words, he’s trolling democrats...again.

No, Trump is a master at trolling the left and at appealing to both sides. Trump never was going to infringe on the 2nd Amendment. He was open to things that would help identify the mentally ill. He was demonstrating to centrist Democrats that he is a reasonable man with their interests in heart. Then at the earliest golden opportunity (the left always give him one), he found an idiot Commie Rat to let him off the hook.
So his message to the centrist Democrats he needs for re-election is “I am really trying to help you out here but your Democrat reps are making that impossible. You need to stop voting for such exteme Democrats, so I can help you out here.”
It is all an act. Trump will not infringe the 2nd Amendment. Not only has he not done so but he has not proposed doing so.
