Frank Luntz: Sanders Most Likely To Win Democratic Nomination
RealClearPolitics ^ | May 12, 2019 | Tim Hains

In an appearance on FNC's "MediaBuzz," pollster Frank Luntz shares his finding that the term "capitalism" no longer polls well with the American people and predicts that Senator Bernie Sanders is the most likely to win the Democratic nomination for president with a message of democratic socialism.

"It is not that principles are dead, in fact, the principles of economic freedom are alive and well," Luntz explained. "But capitalism itself has been so demonized by media that... if you want to oppose socialism you oppose it by talking about freedom, not capitalism."

HOWARD KURTZ, FOX NEWS: An exclusive first look at a poll about socialism versus capitalism. It turns out the ideas pushed by Democrats such as Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may have lots of support in their party, while capitalism isn't polling so well.

Frank Luntz found in an online survey of 1,000 people that 52% of Hillary Clinton voters agree with the statement "I prefer living in a socialist country to a capitalist one," against just 16% of Donald Trump voters. Asked about the AOC proposal to impose a 70% tax on the top 1% of taxpayers, 79% Clinton voters agree, and so do 46% of Trump voters. And veteran Republican pollster Frank Luntz joins us now. Before we get to more numbers, is the media kind of soft on socialism? I mean favorable press to Democrats like Bernie Sanders and AOC, being tough on flaws of capitalism, the excesses of big corporations.

frank was very clear, he doesn’t have a real clue and should not be taken seriously when he makes predictions. just hot air, likes to hear himself talk, and somehow makes his living being wrong about things.

As any student of history knows, the current”capitalism” people despise, is really corporatism. It is heartless, and destructive. It puts great wealth in the hands of a few who tend to abuse their employees, while suppressing small businesses growth.

We need some good old fashioned trust busting and a reasonably regulated free market.Corporatism breeds a reactionary socialism.
>

Though I concur, who are you/we going to turn to?? Wasn’t it the “small govt” (R)N(C) that pushed TARP/”too big to fail” via Mr. GW “I had to violate the Constitution to save it” Bush? Pretty much all bought by the illegal\slave-wage Chamb. of Commerce...

Oh, I know, I know: ‘We need to elect more “conservatives”’. We did...and got 6+ prior O’Care repeal bills that just, SOMEHOW, would\could’t work when they were sworn in; $1T+ deficits; budgets that’ll ‘balance’...in 25yrs; NSA/TSA/NCLB; Largest expansion of MediD EVER+

A party that cannot, nay WILL not, expel the sell-outs of its own platform is good for??....

For those in favor of "trust busting" it is important to understand that your stance makes you philosophical cousins of the DNC.

The power of the federal government to break up private enterprises is not found in the Constitution. The foundation of Leviathan's "trust-busting" is - are you ready? - the Commerce Clause! Yes, that's right...the same abused favorite-of-statists lever to effectively regulate everything under the sun is the basis of "anti-trust" laws in the US.

Therefore, when you cheerfully suggest that Trump break up Amazon, FB, Twitter, and any other firm you dislike, you are also giving philosophical sanction to Schumer and Pelosi etc to tax away ammo, most of the New Deal, and pretty much every despotic economic law in the US since the 1930s.

I get it: these firms wield great power and access to data etc. I also understand nobody is forcing you to buy their products. Therefore I do not see the philosophical congruence of simultaneously saying Bernie is a dope and we dislike socialism and crony capitalism etc but then support the government using an unenumerated power to break up a company that offers a service people voluntarily use.

Trump will someday not be president and someday we will have a ghastly DNC apparatchik heading the Executive branch. When that President pushes to break up FR or Fox or Diamonds and Silk on antitrust grounds, I can sleep well knowing I didn't help contribute to the right-wing antitrust witch hunt. Oh, and FB and Amazon and Google will likely be like IBM at that time...a once-feared firm that is now still big but yesterday's news.

I have never once suggested that the President should break up any of those companies.

But as long as you’re talking about constitutional matters, I’ll ask one question: Where does the U.S. government get the authority to establish an SEC that regulates the trading of shares in corporations chartered in individual states?

The power of the federal government to break up private enterprises is not found in the Constitution.

Of late, Americans of good will have paused when faced with the destruction of our Republic, related to various interpretations of the constitution. When it's used to pave the way to our destruction, I suggest we ignore it and act like men facing danger.

> There will be no Democrat primary winner. <

That’s the way I’d bet. Then at a brokered convention either Hillary or Michelle gets the nod.

Call it “Free Enterprise.”

Idiots like AOC make me laugh when she slams “big corporations” and capitalism.

She doesn’t ride a bicycle when she travels between Washington D.C. and New York City. She flies there, on an airline, which is a big corporation. The plane she flies on is probably manufactured by Boeing, another big corporation. The jet fuel the airline uses to fly it’s planes are made by major oil companies....big corporations.

When she arrives in New York, she uses Uber or Lyft when she’s not using a taxi....both Uber and Lyft are now big corporations.

The automobiles used by Uber and Lyft are all manufactured by major corporations.

AOC’s smart phone....most likely is made by Apple or Samsung....major corporations.

Her make-up and designer clothing....made by major corporations.

The food she eats....I’ll bet a lot of it is grown by corporations....agri-business.

Bottled water, wine, etc.....big corporations.

That socialist with the little girl voice is clueless.

Good point.

In 2016, Sanders was drawing the crowds while hillary was a real bummer. The Party had made the decision that hillary was going to be the nominee no matter what. It was her turn. So Sanders played the game and was a good soldier and was well rewarded for his compliance.

His fans have not gone away, but I think the Party will not allow him to be the front runner again. They will put up Biden. This will make the Bernie bots even more pissed and violent.

Should be interesting to watch.
