Now that the race for the 2020 Democratic nomination has officially started, one of the big issues that will likely come up is which candidate is the most electable.
One way to find that out is to see how the different possible candidates have done in the past. Of course, it's difficult to compare candidates when they run for different offices in different years.
There are, however, six potential 2020 Democratic contenders ran who ran for the US Senate in 2018.
The big takeaway from those results: Sens. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Sherrod Brown of Ohio are above-average candidates on the question of electability, while Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts -- who announced Monday that she's formed a committee to explore a 2020 presidential run -- is below average.
To come to that conclusion, I followed a pretty simple formula. I looked at how Brown, Klobuchar, Warren, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Texas' Beto O'Rourke and Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont did in their 2018 Senate races. Then I examined how Democratic US House candidates in those same states performed. Thanks to Catalist, a data company that works with Democrats and others, we can calculate how unopposed House candidates would have done in races had they had opponents.

Klobuchar of Minnesomalia is not that bright, and Brown is dull.
It is appalling how the collective intelligence of Democrats has plummeted. Sadly, they appear to have perfected cheating in elections. So the stupid people they elect end up ruining a perfectly good country (see Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez).
Trump would beat any of those three
If they are going to run a run of the mill boring politician, its over, President Trump has 4 more years.
I don’t see anyone on that bench who can win
They will try, and they have a ton of dirty tricks and smears.
Nothing about kameltoe whorris?
“Sherrod Brown, Amy Klobuchar”
Who the hell are these people? Are there any Rats NOT running for president?
islamidemocommucrats ALL.
...and their supporting cast of rinos....
These two are so feckless, so stupid, you wonder how they were elected. Are their state voters really that uniformed, stupid, or just plain complacent?
2020 is looking to be landslide for the Left,
just too many Anti-Trump sentiments out here to overcome.
That is if Trump is still even POTUS be running for re-election
never doubt the Never Trump (R)’s in the Senate
just needing an excuse to convict
Trump and remove him from office
after the (D) controlled
HOR does impeach Trump(not if, but when, I fear)
Pray I am wrong and just overly knee-jerking...
Yup, their only chance to beat Trump is an out of the box Hail Mary type candidate.
But all those kinds of independent types have been ruthlessly driven out of the Democratic Party for offenses against “social justice”.
So there’s really not even the potential for a winning Democratic candidate this cycle. The only option they have to defeat Trump is widespread election fraud, which is exactly what they are going to attempt.
Stop watching CNN, it’s addled your thinking. None of those are even slightly realistic concerns. The only thing that can create a winning scenario for Democrats is enough election fraud to overturn a decisive pro-Trump result.
May be Michele Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Kerry won’t be running in 2020.
I wonder if they can build podiums strong enough to hold all candidates running. I counted 3 dozen possibly running.
Fraud was a major part in 2018(and earlier) but the anti-Trump vote and sentiments were under-estimated in the run-up to the 2018 Mid-Terms...plus the historic premise that the party out of the White House gains seats in Congress...
Elizabeth Warren not running high in the presidential stakes?
Not to worry. She’l quickly rise to the top, by recruiting Nathan Phillips, a fellow native American, to campaign with her.
Brown is as useful as teats on a boar...
You’re vastly underestimating the scope of the fraud. Anti-Trumpism is a 30% share, max, of actual eligible-to-vote citizens.
okay....but, we need to avoid being too sure, look at Hillary in 2016, most of us on FR thought she was all but assured of being elected POTUS(perish the thought) even while we hoped Trump could win....have to admit that Trump’s win stunned a lot of Free-Peers....it was a miracle that Trump won....
I wasn’t stunned at all. Then again, I haven’t had a TV in a quarter century and don’t regularly consume any form of corporate media product, so my head doesn’t get filled with disinformation constantly.
“Sherrod Brown, Amy Klobuchar score high on electability; Elizabeth Warren, not so much”
i suspect that’s simply because very few no much about Brown or Klobuchar and they know a lot about Warren ...
