If Jennifer Palmieri could turn back the clock, and make one change to Hillary Clintons campaign, what would it be? I can guess any number of answers when I put the question to the campaigns communications director, but not the one she gives.
I would have spent more time and money, she replies without hesitation, in Texas, Arizona and Georgia.
Palmieris explanation makes perfect sense. She says they made the classic mistake of devoting their energy to the swing states of previous elections, such as Ohio, while overlooking historically safe Republican states now becoming winnable due to shifting demographics. Its a clever answer analytic, pragmatic, strategic; everything, in other words, we associate the Clinton campaign. What also makes it quintessentially perhaps calamitously Clintonesque, however, is its failure to strike any kind of emotional chord.
Palmieri was 24 when she first worked in the White House, for Bill Clinton. Under Barack Obama she became director of communications and in 2015 she joined Hillarys campaign team. The 51-year-old has dedicated her life to the Democrats and, had about 80,000 Americans voted differently in November 2016, she would now be in the White House again. Instead, Palmieri is in London, promoting her book about what went wrong.
There is nothing colourless or dry about Dear Madam President. In person, its author is forthright, quick-witted and doesnt mince her words. She describes Donald Trump as a dangerous, unstable, racist misogynist, looks on the verge of tears at times, and can be very funny....

Come on! “Spend more “time” in PA, WI, GA, TX, AZ, or OH? ???
Hillary was making TWO “campaign appearances” A WEEK between her early-September collapse and November 3. TWO.
She made one speech in public for 30 minutes from a prepared platform, and a second in a closed session, no-camera, no press, no recordings “fund raiser” in front of her paying agents. Those were buying her future decisions.
The voters? Nothing. Granted the two appearances were in different states, and granted, there were many “secondaries” and TV stars and rock concerts in support of Hillary. But on stage?
Less than one hour per week. In front of weak, low enthusiasm small audiences of robots.
That’s not a campaign anywhere that will swing undecided states around.
Obama himself reportedly said as much, though in a smarmy, backhanded way. He allegedly read a column asserting that liberals had forgotten how important identity was to people and had promoted an empty cosmopolitan globalism that "looks to outsiders like something familiar from eras past: A powerful castes self-serving explanation for why it alone deserves to rule the world."
Obama misread narcissistically this reality as the Deplorables being too dumb to see his wisdom. It seems much of the DNC and Hillary's retinue remain equally clueless. Which is great, as it means more and sustained MAGA.
Good grief woman! (Palmieri) ..Hillary Clinton could not have won Texas if you had spent a trillion dollars here!
It’s OVER for god sake... .your sleazeball lost!
but but but but... we polished that turd SO MUCH!!!
Rather the opposite. Despite your attempts to turn her into the facsimile of a human being, you failed.
Translation: “We just thought of some new thing we haven’t used to explain Hillary’s loss to so here it is”.
Hate Silver was the biggest chump.
They could have nominated Timmy the Clown Kaine. And fauxcahontas as VP.
Indeed. But never underestimate them or back down. They are ALWAYS scheming.
Hillary is a criminal, a crook. Who’d want to vote for that
The media was so in the bag for Hillary, they tried to present her at all times in the best possible light.
The problem was when Hillary actually spoke in person. She was so obviously phony, from the horrible accent, to claiming she kept hot sauce in her purse, to her barking, to her “wiping” gesture. She was a PR firm’s worst nightmare.
How to present “The Country Bear Jamboree” as though it were the London Philharmonic Orchestra?
Not matter how much they claim it’s the orchestra, there just isn’t enough suspension of disbelief to “make it real.”
Mark
If Hillary had actually done something to be remembered for 8 years in the Senate and four years as Sec of State....things would be different.
If Hillary had made a true effort in 2008 and brought Bill into Iowa to spend a whole month shaking hands and talking her up....things would be different.
If Hillary had never gotten the stupid server set up in her bathroom closet....things would be different.
If Hillary had done something and saved the ambassador in Libya....things would be different.
There’s a list of a hundred ways that this scenario would have turned out different (even beating McCain in 2008 would have been glorious). But every step of the way....she screwed up.
The only credible person in Hillary’s campaign is the one who cancelled her fireworks display.
That must be 5 pm EASTERN time.
Here on the West Coast at 5 pm, the lefties were already starting to rant and rave and fizzle.
Haha! I still wish Trump had bought them up for 10 cents on the dollar.
It’s amazing to me how resolutely blind they remain to the facts. This Palmieri chick has worked for the Clintons since the 90s and yet remains wholly ignorant. How is that possible?!
> female facsimile of a male president
What a sexist comment. It seems to imply that there are differences between “male” and “female”. Liberals made google fire James Damore for saying the same thing, so I’m sure they’ll all be boycotting this book. /sarc
