Commentary: Mitt Romney must run for president in 2020
The Salt Lake Tribune ^ | October 15, 2017 | Bernie Quigley, For The Tribune

Should Mitt Romney run for the U.S. Senate? By all means. Indeed, Sen. Orrin Hatch should step aside. The Old Souls in the House and Senate will be taking a beating this coming year and Judge Roy Moore, newly nominated gunslinger from Alabama, will lead the charge. Possibly on horseback.

For with the rise of Donald Trump to the Oval Office, America has entered a new age of Andrew Jackson. Trump has even placed a portrait of Jackson in the Oval Office to boldly indicate the dramatic shift in paradigm. But it was a long time in coming.

I’d written back in 2011 that the rise of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to national politics was the first suggestion that we were entering a new Jacksonian period. It was Jackson, I claimed, who “put the fire in the belly of the heartland; a fire felt in the red states today and a fire that potentially will never go out.”

The rise of the new Jacksonian rebels intent on clearing “the swamp” brings perhaps a much needed transition in our ongoing American experience; a changing of the guard and a new approach to governance, moving toward decentralization. Maybe it is time.

But there are increasing dangers and instabilities as well and Romney could bring moderation and a bridge between rising political generations and those receding. As governor of Massachusetts, he was first to use the phrase “one size does not fit all” which has become the mantra for Jeffersonian approaches to states rights, decentralization, sound money and constitutional government, all themes favored in the first days of the rebellious Tea Party.

And anyway, Romney is not just considering running for Senate in 2018. He must be considering running for president in 2020. For Romney, more than any other, is the anti-Trump....

Yes I think he must run, to the salt flats as fast as his legs & feet are able to propel him. Who knows, he may set a new record.

Horseback? Non-subtle reference to the Mormon cult’s “White horse prophecy” that a Mormon will become president and “save” America. Of course this conveniently ignores that the LDS is a traitorous cabal that spends tens of millions pushing for open borders and defeating every GOP candidate wanting to secure the border. Here in Arizona, the Mormons are every bit an enemy as the Mexican Cartel.

You and me both, FRiend. Voting with the Constitution Party was easy when Romney was head of the GOP ticket. Having Paul Ryan on the ticket with him didn't do anything to sway this Wisconsinite either.

When people asked me why I would not vote for Romney when Eternal Vigilence could not win, I simply stated that if Romney wins, we will never get anything BUT Romneys ever again. The Never-Trumpers are thinking the same thing, only with Trump instead of Romney. They have to decide if they want to get with the Trump program, or side with the Swamp as a Dem or third party/ind, because America First/MAGA ain’t goin’ away.

You know why Romney lost in 2012? Because he’s a l-o-s-e-r.

You know what he’ll do if he runs again in 2020? He’ll lose, again, because that’s what l-o-s-e-r-s do.

I like politicians who didn’t lose.

Romney’s problem is he’s a moderate.
One of the thinnest books ever published
is “Accomplishments of Moderates.”

Romney should have the public address system on his campaign vehicle look like a big shaggy dog strapped to the roof.
