Unemployment is down, wages are up and to many Americans, the financial crisis may feel like a memory. But for those in rural America and regions tied to industries on the decline, joblessness remains a huge problem.
Hillary Clinton says there is one possible solution to joblessness but it's a tough pill to swallow. In "What Happened," Clinton writes that the possible solution is one few people want to discuss.
"As hard as it is," she writes, "people may have to leave their hometowns and look for work elsewhere in America."
While she advocates for local governments, employers and other actors to work together to bring new jobs in booming areas such as healthcare, construction and solar power, she also says that those efforts might not be enough.
"In some places the old jobs aren't coming back," she writes, "and the infrastructure and workforce needed to support big new industries aren't there."(continued)

Read the bill that authorized the Federal Reserve. There’s a reason Andrew Jackson was totally against the idea.
I’m not saying Trump is not up to the challenge.
He is, I think.
But a whole lot of the “regular” people in his supposed same party, are completely sold out on jobs.
A lot of democrats are also, likewise sold out.
I think this will increasingly become an issue. That is what I am saying. American industry, will become a major issue in American politics, and I think soon. Both parties, will be fragmented.
I think a new political party will evolve, from what is now both parties. A political party for jobs, and production.
Right in America.
Theres a reason Andrew Jackson was totally against the idea.
The obvious reason that if anyone can legally print all the money he wants, he will print too much and destroy the economy.
Yes, and the CEO's and shareholders of those companies have made themselves fortunes doing it. Now, I wonder what they thought the long term harm might be to the American work force? Answer is, they didn't care and our politicians stood by and let them do it as long as they got their cut. This was all so predictable.
You go. Hillary. You ARE the smartest woman in America. How could we not see that. What fools we were to elect a capitalist to fix a capitalist economy, when socialism was the answer all along.
We did it to ourselves, I reckon. Oh well. Fiddley dee.
We know what Hillary would do with the power of government. Force every coal miner out of a job, then fund solar power companies to suck tax dollars out of the public for no other than purpose than to make money for Democrat politicians. Meanwhile the country would suffer from impossible energy prices, which Obama even said would be a good thing. Because that will make energy less popular among the masses, and we’d decide to buy Flintstone cars and go without heat during winter instead. That’s progress.
Looks like she is blaming rural voters for her loss, which is what happened. In her mind, the only reason she possibly could have lost is because of jobs. I don’t think that is the primary reason she lost rural America. It is more likely rural America doesn’t like her and it doesn’t like what the democratic party has become or it policies. I’d blame Obamacare and Obama for taking a hard left turn right after the 2012 election.
And why more people don’t see this is incredible. It’s staring them in the face.
Why should we buy from China when we have a huge country right here with vast resources.
Why should we make a dictatorship wealthy?
“As hard as it is,” for some wobbly citizens...
LOCK HER UP!
1/2 The Greatest Crime Couple in the history of the republic ALERT!
Hilary ain’t so smart.. She’s as dumb as a rock ...
Move from a low cost area to a high cost area—what could possibly go wrong?
The “disability” check of one family member and grandma’s social security check will go further in many rural communities than a “great job” in Silicon Valley or Metro NYC.
Those are the cold equations...
I don’t buy Chinese goods if I can keep from it. It’s me that I had to buy a new tv, and it was made in China.
I think I learned that when I was sixteen.
Ross Perot was right and everyone laughed at him.
If Hillary had been elected, I have little doubt that many of us would have been among the newly unemployed. Hillary would have opened the flood gates of immigration and allowed immigrants to undercut our wages to the point where corporations would have to lay off Americans paid American wages in order to remain competitive. As it is now, there are still far too much H1B visa abuse in American business. It needs to be savagely curtailed.
...”Good thing we have Hillary around to figure out stuff like this. You mean like you abandoned Arkansas for New York?”...
For someone who was so reclusive during the election, Hillary has put forth a very bold public move lately, appearing very confident about her goals for President Trump. Does anyone else, in this day of the possible “weaponizing” of the US Security Departments and considering all that we have heard about the close friendship of Mr. Mueller, Comey, Obama, etc., wonder whether she is in on all that and they have told her they are putting in the “fix”. Is it really possible that could happen without war in the US? Even those who do not like Trump might not be the least bit comfortable with a coup like that.
Spellcheck is your friend.
Kind of like helping to sprinkle the gasoline and light the matches then bitching because the house burned down....and blaming the fire department ....
And to your point, even some of the food I see in the stores any more is a product of China or Vietnam. I avoid those like the plague. Don't like drywall ingredients in my food.
Move to install solar panels for $12/he? Sure thing Hill.
