The House GOP's staunchest opponent of illegal immigration said President Trump is now at risk of losing his base of supporters after supposedly cutting a deal to legalize more than 800,000 young people who arrived in the United States illegally as children.
Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, said he stands by a Wednesday night tweet that proclaimed Trump's base "is blown up, destroyed, irreparable, and disillusioned beyond repair," after he dined with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
The two Democrats left the White House proclaiming they had reached a deal with Trump on the so-called Dreamers that would legalize them and even provide a pathway to citizenship, otherwise known as "amnesty" to opponents like King.
"If they see amnesty coming out of the White House, that is the one thing that will crack his base," King said Thursday. "They are loyal Trump supporters but the most important plank in that platform is the rule of law. If that is blown up here in their negotiations, whether it is his intention or not, they are not going to have a leg to stand on when they press others to defend our president."
Democrats say Trump agreed to deal to legalize the Dreamers and Pelosi added later that Trump supports an eventual "earned path" to citizenship for those eligible for the program.....

Excellent post!
And all head over to the Rinos? Hillary crybabies? Progs? Antifa?
No, Andrew Jackson won most of his battles but compromised when necessary.
Amnesty is a “No Go Zone” for patriots
No Amnesty = Good Amnesty
Certainly he will have issues if he folds on DACA, but if you think the base will embrace nutjob Kamala Harris then that would be the same as the President making a deal with Schumer and Pelosi, which is crazy on the face of it.
He just needs to be reminded that he won because of his position on the issues and not because of his personality or celebrity .
Many of his most fervent supporters are angry with him.
There is no deal.
Perhaps it enough of contact him, let him know how we feel, he will not support those entitled “Dreamers.” Support for them would be a betrayal of those who supported him.
King doesn’t look good in pearls. I thought he was smarter than this.
PING
Deal or no deal? Wall or no wall? Conservative or no conservative?

Late last night, in an update to a post about DACA, I noted that President Trump reportedly had just made a deal with Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi regarding DACA-style legislation. The alleged deal would protect the roughly 690,000 people covered by the current DACA program (but not, I take it, other dreamers) and would include a package of border security measures, excluding the wall, thats acceptable to both sides.
This would be a good deal for Democrats. It would put DACA on a sound, permanent legal basis without giving Trump his wall or any other security provision deemed too harsh (i.e. effective) by Chuck and Nancy.
The White House, though, is denying that it struck such a deal. Sort of.

We may be seeing the emergence of the real Trump presidency. Keep conservatives happy through judicial appointments and the like (but can we be entirely confident that Trumps new friend Chuck wont have a say in the next Supreme Court selection?). Keep the nationalist base happy by attacking the media and through gestures like pardoning Sheriff Joe. Steer a middle course neither hawkish nor dovish on foreign and national security policy. Govern as a centrist (and at times from the center-left) on domestic policy issues.
If this turns out to be the case, no one who paid attention to Donald Trump pre-2015 should be surprised.
Nancy and Chuckie will say anything to try and drive a wedge into Trump’s base. Watch not what people say but watch what occurs.
Yep. This would be a lousy move by DJT. ANY whiff of ANYTHING remotely like an amnesty will cost him support.
No but I’d like to dump some RINO’s in congress.
Almost all of trumps supports comes from being anti illegal immigration. If trump grants amnesty to 800000 illegals his base is done. Finshed. They will stay home next election. Dems will win the house. Game over.
Amnesty for dreamers is just the first step. Next will be comprehensive amnesty for all illegals. If trump grants amnesty his base is gone.
His daughter and son-in-law are involved I bet.
I see it the opposite way. Amnesty for Dreamers kills any chance of amnesty for the rest. That’s why Obama didn’t do it when he had the chance, which was basically any time during his entire eight years in office.
Dump him and get what, a Cruz or a Clinton clone?
If Trump does not succeed it will be because of people to stupid to see it’s the political establishment trying to force him to fail. It will also be the end of any opportunity we have to fix our country. People better wake up.
That was awesome...hat tip.
“Certainly he will have issues if he folds on DACA, but if you think the base will embrace nutjob Kamala Harris then that would be the same as the President making a deal with Schumer and Pelosi, which is crazy on the face of it.”
Not saying Trumps base woul vote for Kamala Harris, but saying his base will stay home in 2020 if he caves on Amnesty.
