Is Duterte running for US Congress? He is, but its not that Duterte.
Republican Filipino-American Edwin Duterte has joined the race for Californias 43rd Congressional District in next years US midterm election.
While the Philippine president, who shares his last name with Edwin, is widely popular in the Philippines, it will be an uphill climb for the newbie Republican.
He will be running against veteran Democrat politician Maxine Waters, who has served in the US House of Representatives since 1991.
Waters won the 2016 election by 76.1 percent against her Republican rival.
The district covers several cities in Los Angeles County, an area that historically votes Democrat.
According to Dutertes biography on his crowdfunding page, his father, who is from Pangasinan, migrated to the United States in 1967.
In an interview with ABS-CBNs North America news program Balitang America, he said he is distantly related to Rodrigo Duterte.
Duterte describes himself in his biography as a focused entrepreneur, a pro-life, conservative Republican who will support the right solutions to our health care system, veteran care, immigration, national debt, and employment problems, as well as support our Second Amendment (pro-gun rights).
The US midterm elections will take place in November 2018.
Very interesting... And intelligent.
At least unlike his cousin, he’s apparently not appealing to the Communist party to carry out an agenda item in a vacuum. (Which still might ultimately get Rodrigo some cement shoes when they step up and demand the glory for what they did.) People need God, who shows us how to use every created thing for a blessing, even more badly than they need any item to be banned.
Pangasinan. Been there. Hundred Islands resort.
Thanks for posting
I am good friends with Edwin. Please support him all you can.
I know Edwin and he is not close to President Duterte at all.
I wouldn’t think he was, at least politically. But the name recognition could wake up some sleepwalking Californians.
It would be a great improvement over Maxine. Just bring in Manny Pacquiao to campaign for him.
A fence post would be better for California than mad Maxine.

Does he live in the district? Maxine doesn’t...
A vacuum would be better than Maxine..of course, a vacuum is what is between her ears...
He needs to get out. Back Omar Navarro. Stop splitting the field.
Back Omar Navarro???
Omar is only 28, already a professional politician (how does that drain the swamp?). He already got himself canned from his last job. He has zero chance against Maxine.
Professional? He ran once.
He is a Hispanic in a 54% Hispanic district. He’s the ONLY shot at winning this district.
And yes, good for him being “only 28.” About time we get some young people in office.
Here’s the problem. He is a Trump Republican who has burned his bridges. Do you really think running attached at the hip to Trump in Maxine Waters district is going to b a winning ticket? Good luck with that.
Yep. Especially since he has personally talked with every Hispanic voter in the district.
