Can Democrats Out-Populist Trump?
The Fiscal Times ^ | July 24, 2017 | Rob Garver

There’s a strong argument among many Democrats that the party’s shocking 2016 electoral loss to Donald Trump and the Republican Party as a whole was at least in part due to a lazy messaging strategy that took the votes of the working class for granted. Now, 16 months from the next general election, the two top Democrats in Washington are promising that the party won’t make that mistake again.

On Monday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer penned op-eds in The Washington Post and The New York Times, respectively, laying the foundation for a more populist-themed 2018 campaign meant to move beyond simple opposition to Trump and the GOP agenda by presenting a set of concrete policy goals of their own.

In their joint message, meant to be hammered home by a public appearance on Monday in Berryville, Virginia, the congressional leaders borrowed liberally from the two men who gave the Democratic Party the most trouble in 2016: Trump and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, whose insurgent challenge to Hillary Clinton threatened, for a while, to splinter the party.

Both Trump and Sanders tried to speak to Americans who felt they had been left out of the economic gains enjoyed by the wealthy over the past few decades. Trump spoke directly to “the forgotten man” and Sanders railed against a system “rigged” to favor the wealthy.

The two Democrats echoed both men in their op-eds Monday.....

You can expect the edgy new slogan, ripped from Papa John’s Pizza commercials will turn the tide just like the appeal of Pajama Boy did!

A populist wave just waiting to happen!

Yes, they probably could if they were smart. Restructure their rhetoric, return to appealing to the blue collar base. GOPe has turned its back on Trump's base and coalition.

I think most voters know that President Trump is the real deal. The dimoKKKRATS have a fake agenda with nothing in their record to back them up.

Time to re-educate (I know, negative connotations) the masses into the effects on poor black communities the social programs of the 1960’s had.

What Pelosi and Schumer are really saying is that the Democrats nominated the wrong candidate last year. LOL.

Well, neither Trump nor Sanders is a Democrat, for one thing. That might be a clue as to how far the Dems have wandered from their old base. I've told Democrat friends of mine that they will never get the working class vote back so long as they insist that Social Justice means disempowering it. They scoff but in truth none of them knows anyone in the working class personally anyway, which might be another clue.

Care about jobs, love the country, and stop the hatred. That's what will do it. And they won't.

Heck, Micha 6:8 would do it:

He has told you, O mortal, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?
But huge portions of the government are opposed to doing justice because that would mean that their corruption would be both exposed and punished.

As the (R) have yet to (attempt??) successfully counter a message (Hell, they can’t even articulate their OWN), the upcoming elections aren’t looking so hot.

“I’m for the poor man — all poor men, black and white, they all gotta have a chance. They gotta have a home, a job, and a decent education for their children. ‘Every man a king’ — that’s my slogan.”

Populism to Democrats means bringing out new slogans. They hate whites, the working class, and those in the flyover states. They gave them Obama care, white privilege, and want to give them climate and carbon taxes. Some populism that. They think millionaire liar, Elizabeth Warren and Beachhouse Bernie are populists.

The Democrat Leadership and power brokers are elitists who HATE the “common” man.
They may try, but the mask WILL slip and they will be unable to hide their disdain for those they find “worthy”.
