Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) says he boycotted a White House briefing on North Korea because he did not want to be part of a photo opportunity.
What I did not want to be is part of a photo opportunity or a political effort on the part of the White House, Sanders told MSNBCs Chris Hayes on Wednesday.
In an unusual move, the White House invited all 100 senators to attend the briefing at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
Sanders said such briefings are typically held at the Capitol in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) room, which is a specially and securely designed room for highly classified congressional briefings.
These highly supposedly highly classified briefings always take place in whats called the SCIF room in Congress, which is a very well-designed room to prevent any cybersecurity issues, with security issues in general."
Despite calling for bipartisan efforts to deal with North Korea, Sanders said he declined to be part of the White House roadshow.
The issue of North Korea is enormously important, and we need bipartisan efforts to control North Koreas very aggressive nuclear efforts, but I did not want to be part of a roadshow for the White House, he said.
Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.), the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, also called the briefing at the White House an unusual setting, adding that he didn't want to read too much into this.
The meeting came after the administration said it would take a hardline approach toward the increasingly hostile state amid rising tensions.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, along with other top administration officials, briefed the senators.
President Trump briefly joined the meeting.
Bernie Sanders = Style of Substance
Senators probably expect a limo for each.
Sanders on skipping WH Korea briefing: ‘I did not want to be part of a photo op’>>>>>>>
Sanders is Vermont’s Village idiot.
Correction:
Sanders on skipping WH Korea briefing: ‘I did not want to betray my comrades’
Yes, which is why I wondered if she attended the House briefing.
So if they decided to drop the a-bomb at that meting then I take it he’s onboard.
I just looked it up.
It was a couple of years before the Soviet Union collapsed.
How was he able to gain entry?
I also read he attended meetings... ? About what?.
What a romantic, that Bernie.
What they don’t say is Trump controlled the venue, not them.
Just not from you, right, Bernie?
Why do I get the impression he'd be very uncomfortable going up against his fellow travelers anyway?
If there’s a Senate vote concerning North Korea, Sanders should abstain from voting. I’ll not hold my breath.
If you’re not part of the solution you’re part of the problem - ain’t that what Bernie’s hero Marx, or one of them guys, used to say?......
So like just comb your hair. Trump can loan you a tie. Youre good.
Oh, Bernie has PRINCIPLES, doncha know. He would be hard put to define just what they were, but at the heart of it, is the seething class envy Bernie has for anybody who has scads of money and doesn’t buy into the whole environmental movement.
And Donald Trump is not the doctrinaire kind of liberal environmentalist who are the only ones that have their “minds right” on climate change and anthropomorphic global warming. This just sort of pushes Bernie’s buttons, all at once.
The beer is good. God is great. Bernie is crazy.
Did he go up to his Dacha instead?
That is true. He went to the USSR, the socialist mother ship for his honeymoon. He also has been to Cuba to strategize with the Castro brothers. Sanders was also a Vermont Electoral College elector on the slate of electors for Eugene DeBerry, the 1980 Socialist Workers Party candidate for president. DeBerry received 75 votes that year. Only communist true believers sign on as electors for the Socialist Workers Party.
Not that I am defending Sanders, I think he is a hypocrite.
As a generic Senator you are an equal member of government as with the executive and the SCOTUS. They are under no obligation, other than manners, to be seen marching up the street.
The voters in the US still operate under the delusion that the President is the decider—he’s not supposed to do a damned thing that Congress doesn’t tell him to do. We really need to go back to Congress being involved with what we do, and where we declare war.
Maxine isn’t a Senator.
GO BACK AND READ WHAT I WROTE!
