Democrats to Fight Almost Any Trump Supreme Court Nominee: Schumer
MSNBC ^ | January 3, 2017 | Alex Johnson

Suggesting that turnabout is fair play, the Senate's new top Democrat said Tuesday night "it's hard for me to imagine" Democratic senators' supporting a Supreme Court nomination submitted by President-elect Donald Trump.

In a measured but blunt interview on MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York took on Trump over a number of issues, calling him a "fake" populist who was "dumb" to continue squabbling with the U.S. intelligence community.

But it was the vacancy on the Supreme Court created by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in February that led to Schumer's strongest challenge to the president-elect.

Senate Republicans blocked President Barack Obama's March 16 nomination of U.S. Appeals Judge Merrick Garland for more than nine months — more than twice as long as any other nomination to the court has gone without a vote. Garland's nomination expired Tuesday as the new 115th Congress was sworn in.

"The consequences are going to be down the road," Schumer said. "If they don't appoint somebody good, we're going to oppose them tooth and nail."

Asked by Maddow whether he would seek to simply keep the seat open rather than confirm a nominee outside the mainstream, Schumer replied: "Absolutely."(continued)

"Appeals Judge Merrick Garland for more than nine months — more than twice as long as any other nomination to the court has gone without a vote."

I’m not sure if Harvard Law School-indoctrinated Schumer is playing with words, but the vacancy left by the late Justice Scalia is not the longest one. This is evidenced by the following which shows a vacancy of more than two years by 1846, corrections welcome.

Long Supreme Court vacancies used to be more common

Note that the reason for the longest vacancy shown in the referenced list is EXACTLY the same for the current vacancy — party line politics. Corrections welcome.

In today’s world she could serve 25 years.

Trump does not choose his team based on gender, race, or color. If she is the most qualified for the job, then she deserves the position.

“You need to see the pictures”

You mean these?
http://tinyurl.com/zp5koud

The pictures of:
1.Tourist matches that can be bought in Mexico?

2. A reproduction of a Roman mural? (Of course it’s pagan the original was per-Christian)

3. Various Native American/Mexican and possibly African ceremonial mask?

4. A statue of the Mexican/Catholic celebration of the Day of the Dead?

Other than the tourist matches I wouldn’t have any of them in my house but they are not, strictly speaking satanic.

They are cultural artifacts, probably tourist goods, mostly from Mexico. Lots of people just see that stuff as art.

I believe Scalia was murdered. Since I believe the US Democratic party is controlled by Satan he was killed by Satanist or their sympathizers. But that ranch is not a satanic hotbed.

Nope Make them stand there and talk. None of this “We’re willing to talk from now on” Make them do it and advertise the fact that they are holding up any other work in the Senate. Find out if they are willing to shut down the government come March.

I will agree with you on this first one. It might work out that another appointment will not be likely until after the mid-terms and if Trump leads the way, there are 23 Democrat Senators up for re-election. If Things are handled correctly, we could have a filibusterer proof Senate for the second half of Trump’s term. There actually exists a chance to have a 16 year run at this. So, get one now with the rules we have, and then when others come up, have the passage all but assured.

Wow. Really? Am I going to long for the good old days of Bork and Thomas nominations, where we held hands with Democrats and gave the nominees a fair shake?
