Dallas County Republican Party Chairman Phillip Huffines criticized a North Texas elector who made national headlines after saying he wont for Donald Trump for president.
Christopher Suprun, a Republican from Cedar Hill, will join other Texas Republicans who were chosen as electors, at the state Capitol in Austin Monday afternoon.
Huffines said he was frustrated, disappointed and angry when he heard Suprun announced in a New York Times Op-Ed earlier this month, that he would vote for another Republican, not the president-elect.
Huffines said hes surprised because Suprun promised him in an email dated November 14, that he would vote for Trump.
Surpruns email read in part, I have no intention of denying the President-elect his victory. To the contrary, I have argued that while he and I have major policy disagreements, I will not Bork him as many Democrats would like.
He was referring to Robert Bork, President Reagans nominee for Supreme Court Justice who Democrats rejected.
In an interview Friday, Huffines said, For an individual to sign a pledge and then change his mind in some way well, in Texas, a mans word is his bond. So it doesnt sit well.
On Friday afternoon, Suprun acknowledged the email he sent Huffines.
He told CBS11 theres a reason he changed his mind. The continuing realization Mr. Trump was not changing, wasnt becoming more presidential and again he was attacking people with non-facts.
In Texas, the electors are not legally bound even after making their pledge. They can change their minds.
Suprun said he tried to meet with Huffines before announcing his decision. He never had time to meet with me, so eventually, I had to go on and make the decision without conversing with him first.
Huffines said, I didnt know he was ever thinking of not voting for the president. But we didnt have a lot of communication. I made several phone calls into this individual after the controversy occurred.
When asked if he ever heard back from Suprun, Huffines replied, No.
Texas Republican party leaders expect Suprun will be the only one of 38 Texas Republican electors who wont vote for President-elect Trump.
Huffines said he believes Suprun wont have any negative impact on the outcome.
Then remove him if he refuses.
Has he changed his mind about being a 9/11 hero?
It’s not up to her.
So is Texas going to replace this clown?
Leni
What her are you referring to?
I guess so. We dont want stupid people effing’ it up...
Can't say the same for the impact his traitorous decision is already having on his worthless life.
I don't know why even a Democrat would trust him after what he's done.
Could "electors" who fail to discharge their duties be SUED?
I mean like a class action suite for BILLIONS (one suspects that the damage cost to our fine Country might amount to billions)!
Even assuming that President Elect Trump wins in the Electoral College final tally, are there not grounds for any "elector" who fails to faithfully reflect the voter's decision be SUED, and might the financial burden be far beyond ability to ever financially recover?
Just wondering, I'm not an attorney, and it might be interesting to hear from a few on this idea.
.
As it should be everywhere.
It's clear from everything else that's come out about Suprun he's a liar and four-flusher, now everyone knows it.
I think in the long run the country is going to really regret doing this, even threatening to do this. The type of “metube” people who are going to become electors going forward is going to be really embarrassing and this has the potential to take down the process in its entirety. The states better fix this before the next Presidential election or I predict many more Suprun types on both sides. They can literally hold the entire country hostage if they decide to organize (much easier in the modern world). Does anyone really think no one will find a way to have a viral youtube channel based on how they will vote as an elector. Very short sighted.
Someone tell this self-absorbed prick that he is not there to exercise judgement but to represent the wishes of the voters.
Too many people think this is a “democracy”.
This idiot thinks it’s a “me-ocracy”.
Not Texas law.
So this loser lied about being a first responder on 9/11. If Texas doesn’t have a morals clause governing electors, it better get one or Texas could have a child molester or drug peddler casting its electoral votes. In our evil age, there are fewer and fewer honorable people.
Looks like Suprun is a fraud in more ways than one.
The f’er is disenfranchising MY FREAKIN VOTE!! Sue his ass!!!!!!
He is on the Certificate of Ascertainment. My belief is no.
I’ll see how the vote goes Monday, but wouldn’t mind being part of a lawsuit to make an example of this guy so that no idiot will consider it again.
“So is Texas going to replace this clown?”
If they are, they’re sure being VERY QUIET about it...but then again, we’re talking about the TEXAS REPUBLICAN PARTY, the only Republican Party in the country that can control 2/3’s of their State House and still elect a Democrat as Speaker.
