Incoming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said he wants President-elect Trump to select a "mainstream" candidate to fill the Supreme Court vacancy created by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.
Asked by NBC on Sunday whether he was comfortable filibustering any Trump nominee for the court, Schumer dodged answering the question directly.
"I hope that President Trump picks a mainstream candidate," Schumer said. "A mainstream candidate is somebody you may not agree with on every issue, but basically believes in precedent."
NBC's Chuck Todd interrupted Schumer and asked, "What does that mean? Can he nominate somebody in your mind that is, say, [Texas Sen.] Ted Cruz? Is he too conservative for you?"
"I'm not going to get into specific candidates, but we'd hope it would be mainstream," Schumer answered. "If it is mainstream, you have to remember, the last four nominees, two from President Bush, two from President Obama, got bipartisan support on the bench. If he doesn't nominate a mainstream candidate, we're going to go at him with everything we have, or her. Go at the candidate with everything we've got because this is so, so important."
Schumer expressed a willingness to work with Trump on issues where the president-elect and Democratic Party agree in a series of Sunday morning interviews. Trump responded by praising Schumer on Twitter.
To the Dems mainstream means raging lib.
His definition of mainstream: liberal democrat
and just like Schumey here, an open fag.
Cruz would be good.
The dogs bark, the caravan moves on.
Judge Andrew Napolitano is on a mainstream TV network
That mainstream enough for you Schumer?
DONE!

He may be taking this gracious magnanimity thing a bit too far.
Trump’s pick for SCOTUS should be Wayne LaPierre.
Like Democrat presidents have ever picked any justice that deviated from their Leftist agenda. Shut up! Schumer. Elections have consequences.
Just like obongo’s “mainstream” picks? LOL!
Schumer, you should pick.................your nose...
He’d get unanimous consent just to get him out of the Senate! (I kid, I kid)
Awesome idea.
He’s not exactly factually correct here. He’s saying the Bush nominees got bipartisan support, but here was an abortive attempt to filibuster the nomination of Justice Alito. The vote on Alito was 58-42 as I recall. So he did get a handful of Democrat votes but the vast majority of Democrats opposed Justice Alito.
He should have passed that advice along a few years ago. He might be considered relevant today.
I heard him on Fox News and he sounds 100% better than Harry Reid. He may choose not to block everything
