I agree with Ed that the basket of deplorables comment is a dumb thing to say, even as a gloss on Clintons alt-right speech a few weeks ago. Its especially dumb to quantify the critique by categorizing half of Trumps supporters that way. Mock your opponent all you want, a Times reporter noted, but you mock the electorate at your peril. The fact that she said it at a fundraiser, not a public rally, also makes it smell like a screw-up. Romney was at a fundraiser in 2012 when he uttered his line about the 47 percent; Obama was at a fundraiser in 2008 when he babbled about the bitter-clingers. Candidates have a habit of letting down their guards at those events, partly because they want to flatter the prejudices of people whom theyre hitting up for money and party because theyre less conscious of being on camera and feel theyre able to speak more freely. Its not surprising that Hillary would casually demean Trump backers before a private audience of LGBT Democrats.
But what if this wasnt a casual, off-the-cuff gaffe revealing what she really thinks about her opponents base? What if this is a message shes trying to circulate? My pal Karl notes this snippet from her interview on Israeli TV a few days ago repeating the deplorables line (although without the bit about them being half of Trumps constituency).[continued]

Basically thinking same as you. The comment is particularly offensive. Unredeemable is anti-Christian.
Hillary will either tremor or freeze.
The Handler will appear out of nowhere and again rub her back and in his best Barry White voice he whisper ~
"It's okay baby"
"it's alright"...
"keep on talkin' baby"
"keep on talkin' thru the night"
Yes. H fired up the base - the wrong base. She let out the contempt she feels for those who dissent from her genius.
Unfortunately, leftists don't think that deeply. Their world is a swirl of emotions, and they follow whichever emotional current makes them feel the strongest emotions.
The deplorable comment may have caused their emotions to surge, which would be a plus for them.
Or it was a very poorly thought out tactical ploy. She's used to the old style Republicans where Romney or McCain would have immediately apologized for being deplorable. That she apologized next day shows it not a tactical ploy
All Al Gore had to do was flatter Jack Kemp that he was morally superior to the rest of the Republican Party, and the last hope of the Dole-Kemp ticket was gone. Jack Kemp said, Thanks, Al" - and the election was over. Up to that very moment I was a fan of his. After that, not so much.Trump may be a neophyte in politics, but I think he instinctively would know to defend his supporters. At least we know that Pence does - and that alone will do.
If it was fumbled badly.
OMG! thanks for that - not so obvious to me. That would explain Hootie's "dolphins make me cry" lyric. ...and soap operas!
BTW, lots of folks are pretty sure allahpundit is Josh Barro:
Josh Barro, a NYT writer and so-called conservative.
I thought it was Pee Wee Herman.
It’s a big gamble play by Hillary. It will either unite the GOP against her or against Trump supporters. I think it will backfire. Remember to repeat her Irideamable line about a quarter of Americans. That straight up facist style eliminationist talk.
He's the only one in the office without Johnson and Murphy stripey colored socks.
Yup! Her imagery is interesting, isn’t it?
Allah Pundit is the enemy. I used to enjoy his analysis. But he went full blow anti Trump.
That statement is absolutely untrue. They usually vote for Democrats, because they have been successfully brainwashed. You would think Robert Tracinski would know this to be the case.
When Shitlerey loses, all she’ll have left is her horn dog hub, DIRTPOTUS! Bwahahahahahayhahahaha ! ...
