Trump Meets With Former GOP Rival Ted Cruz
ABC News ^ | July 7, 2016 | Jordyn Phelps, Ben Siegel and John Santucci

Donald Trump met with Sen. Ted Cruz on Capitol Hill Thursday -- the first meeting between the two former bitter campaign rivals since Cruz suspended his presidential campaign.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus was also in the meeting, according to sources. This was Trump's second trip to Capitol Hill in two months.

With less than two weeks before the Republican National Convention commences in Cleveland, Trump is looking to shore up support with the GOP's rank-and-file even as he faces backlash from members of his party. Some Republicans who are facing a tough re-election battle have chosen to skip the convention while others declined to meet with Trump this morning....

Nevertrumpers need 28 votes on the rules committee, which they don’t have. If by chance they get 28 votes and present a rule change to allow delegates to vote thier conscience, the rule change must be approved by the majority of the convention delegates or 1237 votes.

I would suggest that any delegate who votes against the will of the people would need person protection for them and thier family for the rest of thier lives. They should be looking for a place in a foreign country.

You can dream all you want, hate to pop that bubble but CRUZ is done...

“...and another one bites the dust...”

A lot of people on other sites from Texas won’t even vote for him for his re-election, so how is he going to get anywhere?

Best thing for him to do is support Hillary, he might get ‘dog catcher’ that way...

“But the real world doesn’t work that way. Calling delegates, especially those with affiliation with the Tea Party, traitors”

I do not care what they call themselves. They are no more “the Tea Party” than the rest of us. That is no shield for them to be crooked.

They pull some stunt at the convention = they are just Democrats by proxy as far as I’m concerned.

Hillary gets into office there isn’t going to be a Supreme Court or anything thing else. She will be a dictator so take Cruz back to Canada where he belongs, and let him live there...he’s no use to any American here...

NO! We will need every dam senator we can get in there and to take one for the simple reason that he/she might be a popular choice will not help in the least.

Get Trump in there, then in 4 years talk about those who would care to run along side Trump for POTUS.

Right now we have no choice but to rally and save this nation.

Remember the SCOTUS!

The key here is that Cruz is the only one that has the horsepower with the delegates to keep the rug from being yanked out from under Trump at the convention.

And there are plenty of rug yankers lining up against Trump right at this moment, with Hillary having been perfumed by the FBI lounge lizards.

Cruz’s voice drives me insane. His mannerisms add to the insanity.

You are acknowledging your insanity... good first step.

The proposed or possible change to the rules (which usually happens each and every 4 years before every convention regardless of who is running) would be to allow the delegates,to ignore the voters of their states' primary or caucuses winners rather than voting as their state did, and there were a number of states that did not vote Donald Trump as their candidate of choice, so those delegates will go to the convention pledged to someone other than Donald.

As to your second point, I believe sir or madam, what you suggest is a felony and if your "suggestion" or rather pointed threat was turned over to the Feds, you will quickly find yourself in more than a bit of hot water and there are ample ways of finding out who you are.

At this point are you surprised? There is an element on this site that is willing to think the worst of Cruz, no matter how implausible.

I would note that Cruz, since he has dropped out, has not spoken against Trump. Flake, Sasse, and Kirk have, multiple times. I would rather the invective be directed against them.

This was a rough primary, and it got personal. However Cruz, not matter how he feels about Trump, knows what a disaster Hillary will be. Personally, I think he should get a speaking spot at the convention.

If I were his speechwriter, In his speech I would note that he and Trump have their differences, and will continue to have them. Then let loose on Hillary Clinton with both barrels.

Cruz brings nothing to the ticket. Only 25% of republicans wanted him. Independents and moderates really don’t want him. Trump does not need him to win Texas. The establishment hates him. It does nothing to heal the party.

You make good points. One correction. If I were permitted to advise Cruz on his speech, I would suggest that he not telegraph to the media what he plans to say. Build his audience by letting them speculate on what he will say. Then bury the hatchet with a motivational endorsement--a ringing appeal to all who share traditional American values to rally to the next President.

You have to use psychology to maximum effect--putting aside all ego driven thoughts of personal benefit. America is at stake.

As I recall it was Trump that endorsed and donated to Hillary in the not so distant past..not Cruz. Cruz never gave one red cent to the demonrats but Trump did

Easy with the trigger cowboy. I suggested, given the climate, if a delegate decides voting against the will of the people of their state places them and their families in danger.

I realize there are states that voted for another candidate. They are free to vote for that candidate that won their state’s primary on the first ballot. The rule they are trying to change is allowing the delegates to vote their conscience on the first ballot. This would effectively nullify the state’s primary.

This is usurping the will of the people. Not sure why you were triggered over this, unless of course you agree.

I don’t think it will be all that easy to yank the rug, even if Cruz joined in to sabotage Trump.

But your point is well taken. A friendly Cruz is a big asset for Trump going in to the convention.

If the party is able to convince a majority of the delegates that Trump is failing (something that the media are pushing) they can change the rules.

That is the trouble with democracy; it blows in the breeze.
