With two weeks to go until Marylanders vote in their Republican primary, Donald Trump has a small lead over both Ted Cruz and John Kasich, who are currently splitting the non-Trump vote evenly, according to a new Washington Free Beacon poll.
The poll of 600 likely Republican voters found Trump earning 33 percent of the vote, with single-digit leads over Cruz and Kasich, who earned 26 and 25 percent of the vote, respectively.
The poll indicates that Trumps lead in the state is shrinking, but it may not matter unless one of his rivals can consolidate voters unwilling to support Trump.
Trump does far better among male voters than he does with female voters.
While Trump holds a 14-point lead over Cruz with men, women voters supported the three candidates equally at 28 percent. The disparity is even larger among women under 40 years old, only 7 percent of whom said they support Trump.
Maryland elects delegates on a winner-take-all basis, so Cruz and Kasich splitting the non-Trump vote hurts the effort to keep Trump from reaching the 1,237 delegates required to become the Republican nominee for president.
Only New York will vote before Maryland on April 26. Trump has maintained a large lead in his home state, leaving Cruz and Kasich little opportunity to gain momentum before the Maryland contest.
One of the biggest remaining wildcards in the race is the endorsement of Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican who previously endorsed Chris Christie but chose not to follow him into the Trump camp.
The poll found that Hogan remains wildly popular among likely Republican voters, with 86 percent saying they have a favorable opinion of the governor and only 3 percent saying they do not.
Maryland is the second biggest delegate prize up for grabs on April 26, which is also the date for primaries in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware, and Rhode Island.
The Maryland Republican Party awards 14 delegates to the statewide winner, and an additional three delegates will be awarded to the winner of each of Marylands eight congressional districts.
In an added wrinkle to the race, the Kasich campaign failed to get the correct number of delegates on the ballot in six of the states eight districts.
While both Trump and Cruz have relatively even support throughout the state, Kasich performs best in districts in the Washington, D.C., metro area. His failure to get delegates on the ballot, however, means he will be unable to earn delegates even in some areas where his support is strongest.
The Kasich campaign announced that he would travel to the state on Wednesday, one day before the states one-week early voting period begins.
The poll was conducted by TargetPoint Consulting and was conducted from April 8 to April 10.
Still winning! Both Teddy Bear Cruz and Karate hands Kasich would love to be in Trump’s position.
This poll was conducted before the Monmouth poll out today that shows Trump up by 20 points. I tend to believe Monmouth over a little Washington Beacon poll - although it’s worthwhile noting that even they have Trump ahead!
Yeah the Kung-Fu mailman has no hope
Hahahahaha! Now go back and read the article. Hope you’ve had dinner already.
7 points is small? If 7 is small then 20 is yuuuge!
Read the internals.
I did and guess what? Trump’s still winning....

Balderdash.....women have the EXACT SAME concerns as men have about their personal safety and their jobs.
And Trump is solid on those issues....for men and women.
Seven is small because of the margin of error.
I read the internals and the poll is a garbage push poll, even compared to the stuff you spew out all day every day. It’s run by the former deputy campaign manager for Romney. It asks about the favorability of Rubio. Who cares? Then they ask 4 Donald Trump specific questions and ask if the voter is less likely to vote for him. Here’s 3 of them
Q10TRUMPU: Donald Trump is currently under audit by the IRS, faces lawsuits from more than 5 thousand people in New York and other jurisdictions over Trump University, and has filed for bankruptcy four times.
Q13DOM: Donald Trump has repeatedly pushed the government to use eminent domain to seize private property for the benefit of his companies, including a case in Atlantic City where he tried to have the government seize he home of an elderly widow to build a waiting area for limos.
Q11PUNISH: Last week Donald Trump said he believed that women who elect to have an abortion, should face criminal punishment.
All that and they still can only get within 7 points. What a joke.
I did and this poll reads like a push-poll where they ask unflattering questions about Donald Trump to try to impact how they'll vote. Other than that, was there something you were trying to highlight? Like I mentioned previously, this polls was conducted BEFORE this poll. Additionally, Marist did a poll around the same time this one was conducted and found Trump up 12 points. I think this is a biased poll. That said, it shows Trump winning.
My son (now old enough to vote — yeah) and I will be voting for Cruz and the three Cruz delegates for our district. My wife will likely vote for Trump BUT has agreed with the wisdom of voting for the three Cruz delegates instead of the Trump delegates.
Ha! Everyone else has Trump much farther ahead AND leading in each and every Congressional District in the state.
after your boy Cruz loses I sure hope you can find something more constructive to do.
Trump has a wide lead in Maryland and all of the NE primaries. April is not going to be kind to Teddy.
Cruz made under 50% in his home state of Texas. All of the coming primaries are going to be difficult for him to say the least. Kasich is beyond sick and no one can figure out why he hangs around. The convention ballot question keeps firing up daily but my hunch is Trump will secure all the required delegates needed. If not what will the Cruz campaign do? What can they do? Cruz will have at most only half the required delegates. In any case this has been the most educational election ever.

No bias there, right.
