Overflow crowds in Peoria greeted 2016 presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on his third of five Monday rallies in Illinois the day before Tuesday's pivotal primary elections.

Cruz commented that republican frontrunner Donald Trump "may be the one person on the face of the planet Hillary Clinton can beat in a general election" according to political reporter Rosie Gray.

Cruz mentioned Cook County politics, garnering boos from the crowd in reference to Chicago, Illinois. He slammed Trump over donations to politicians such as the disgraced and imprisoned Rod Blagojevich, the Cook County Democratic Party, and Rahm Emmanuel....

Peoria: I grew up there, age 3 to 24. Have many relatives there still.

chajin - Probably if you are a Cruz supporter, you gravitate towards the pro Cruz threads, which is where the bad Trump supporters go.

I PROMISE you, as a Trump supporter, I am regularly called an idiot, cult member, stupid, loser, commie.

It's just as bad on both sides. All the candidates have their share of a-holes supporting them. Best not to paint the entire other side that way. I can tell you're not like that, and most Cruz supporters aren't. But there are just as many Cruz supporters hurling dumb insults. Ignore them or hurl them back with the glee of sport. Either way - it's a minority of each sides' supporters.

>> There was a time when I would have gladly voted for Trump if he wins the nomination, even though I will be voting for Cruz tomorrow. Given the rampant and growing animosity against Cruz supporters, while I will still vote for Trump in the general election if he is nominated, I can’t say I will do it happily, any more than I was happy voting for Dole, McCain, or Romney. The vote will still be worth the same, of course. <<

As a fellow Cruz supporter, I have to disagree with about there ever being a time where I would have "gladly" voted for Trump. He has always been a bigger flip-flopper than Mitt Romney and an arrogant nasty bully who is an embarrassment to the GOP. At best, there was a time where I envision HOLDING MY NOSE for Trump, purely if he was the "not Hillary" candidate in the general election, and for that reason ALONE.

I mourn the loss of a conservative and civil Free Republic.

As do I. The Alinsky is strong here lately.

That is true. About the civility. Just read it right here. Free Republic has changed.

Not so much "Shining City on a Hill" as it's "Lord of the Flies."

I just can’t believe that anyone is still supporting Cruz ...the GOPe has thrown in with Cruz and you’re still supporting him ...wow ...

I supported Cruz before any of the GOPe started gravitating towards him. Now I'm supposed to automatically switch? Interesting.

TED CRUZ tweeted:
It was an amazing event, Glory Be To God. To all my supporters out there: thank you and together we will beat the Washington cartel!

This is why my wife and I who are good Christians will never vote for Ted Cruz. He can’t get through ten words without bringing out the Bible.

Face it folks ...it’s CREEPY

Reading this thread and others, I too was thinking Lord of the Flies.

"BWAHHHAAAAAAA!!"

Now, Wendle, I posted that as journalism, not as rubbing anyone's face in it. I would have left it alone except that the story deserved to be complete - as it clearly hinted at a major crowd, which was an implicit fib. The Cruz supporters are not my enemy, I just disagree with them on this choice, and will do what I can to promote what I think is best for the country.

I'm yet to think Cruz is clearly bad, but I have to say, much has happened that has taken him from being 'much better than Trump except Trump would be more effective' (where I was 3 months ago) to ... I don't know ... he's done some weird things, said some weird things, hired the wrong people -> it's not what I expected from him. But I take no delight in his supporters losing, except that I believe their losing is better for the country. I don't think Cruz is showing that he can lead ... he's proving my original intuition more than I wish about leading, and seems to be showing at least signs of either coming apart or never having been totally together, except on paper and in certain actions.

As someone mentioned before, the establishment threw in with Cruz, not the other way around.

If they were backing trump you would say something like “it’s about time they jumped on the buss”. It certainly wouldn’t dissuade you from following trump.

I just went to Cruz's twitter feed and couldn't find him saying that. Got a link?
