Sarah Palin talks about Trump’s Iowa loss and whether they’ve discussed running together

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin flew out of Iowa on Tuesday after traveling there to campaign with presidential hopeful Donald Trump.

Yahoo News spoke to Palin, who was the GOP's vice presidential candidate in 2008, as she passed through airport security. Trump came in second to Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, in the Iowa caucuses on Monday night, so we asked Palin whether she thinks Trump will catch up in the next primary state, New Hampshire.

"I think so," Palin said of Trump's chances in the Granite State. "He's going to do well there."

Palin also shared her thoughts on why Trump, who had been the frontrunner, was defeated in Iowa.

"I think he just had to have seen more of his conservative side out, because Iowa's so good and conservative," Palin said.

Palin endorsed Trump on Jan. 19. Given her popularity among conservatives, the endorsement was seen as a boost for Trump's chances in Iowa. At the airport on Tuesday, Yahoo suggested to Palin that Trump might have done better in the caucuses if he had brought her out on the trail with him sooner.

"That's so nice," she said of the suggestion....

Cruz has lots of ground game and the best organization in the race. He is well positioned for South Carolina, the SEC primary and he has a boatload of cash. Cruz will win more than just Iowa and he has a very clear path to the nomination.

And yet, he is on record for supporting each of them and proof can be found both this year and last of his supporting each of them.

Sure if you cherry pick out of context statements Trump has made over the last 40 years. But the truth is he never fully supported those positions and he certainly has not in the last decade or two or three and does not now. That is more then obvious, except to those of you who are not capable of being objective. Trumps objectives are layed out for all to see and your going back decades and cherry picking out of context statements to discredit him is just a deceitful and looser argument. If you really want to know where Trump has stood since the early 80's, read his books. Those books all lay out his political philosophy at the time and he has been consistent all these years. Trump is the real conservative in this race and always has been. cruz is part of the GOPe, why else would they be funding his supper PACs?

True. I hope he makes it. However, Trump has the best economic plan. That’s why I like him more.

Absent Palin endorsement Trump would have lost to Rubio as well as Cruz.

I think you may be right. She likely stopped/slowed the progress of a number of the folks who were having SECOND THOUGHTS about Trump and then “losing their religion”.

Yea! Go amnesty, woo hoo!
You guys really are NOT that smart after all.
Falling in line for the GOPe will be 2nd nature for you.

The ‘we love Cruz’ act was just to get division going, make room for Rubio.

Cruz, Trump and Carson got 60% of vote. If conservatives get behind the conservative he wins, amnesty is forgotten until the next liberal gets in office and maybe things get better. And Trump is not the conservative.

Yes I know, not a conservative. But I’ll tell you what, the man has mountains more common sense than Cruz can buy.

You’re being played, I hope you see it before it’s too late and you’re left chastising people into why they need to vote for amnesty Rubio - he’s the one they are going to ram through.

We can agree to disagree. My tag is leaning conservative, not leaning bucko. Just like I didn’t call you Jond*ck. How rude of me would that be? ;)

I’m from New York and I know a NY bs artist when I see one. Having said that, any of them are better than Hillary Lenin or Bernie Stalin.

And so many others who hail from NY say the opposite, they see a man who is quintessential straightforward.

Time will tell, this sorted mess is going to tear at our nation even more and that should cause decent people great concern.
