Not since I voted for Ronald Reagan in 1980 have I been so excited about the prospect of a true conservative as I was for 2016. With the likes of Rick Perry, Bobby Jindal, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100% and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 94% there was plenty to be excited about. What I didnât realize was the depth of disgust and anger that the base had for the establishment republicans. It wasnât so apparent to me given that I have been living with RINOâs and turncoats up here in Massachusetts for decades. Then enter Trump.
I could never have imagined in my wildest dreams that base conservatives who are the salt of the political earth would cast away all their convictions and support a man like Donald Trump. We here at Red state and others on talk radio have scolded Rubio for his gang of eight move. We have criticized Cruz for not attacking other candidates and we failed to support Perry when he rightfully went after Trump. We talk of second amendment rights and those of the unborn and rightfully so. Yet almost without hesitation many of us have fallen behind a man as odious as Trump....

I can’t believe anyone who considers themselves a “conservative” and criticises Trump - has actually spent time watching his rally videos, pressers, and media appearances.
If they truely had and understand what is happening they would not utter the criticisms they do.
Love that tune. Lump lingered last in line for brains and the ones she got were rotten and insane....
I agree with your excellent post almost 100 percent.
The only slight reservation I have is “end of times”. Not wanting to be Debby Downer in any way...but I fear for the US and have for many years. No one person can turn things around. The whole dang nation is going to have to make a change...economically, spiritually and every other way.I don’t see that happening any time soon.
So our country as we know it may transform, already has. I hate that for our young people.
So end of times may just be a transformation. (one we hate)
Rubio as a 94% conservative means nothing so long as he supports raising the Democrat Party to the status of Permanent ruling party in the nation with no checks, no balances.
I disagree. Hillary is a small time lawyer who spent her "legal career" handling real estate scams, bribes from Tyson and flexing her muscle as "Mrs. Honcho".
Cruz has argued cases before the Supreme Court at least nine times, has integrity and sobriety. Hillary has gotten all the mileage she can out of "at this point, what does it matter" and Hubby's "It depends on what 'is' is."
Some people stay the same all their lives and have to be dragged kicking and screaming to any kind of growth or change, even in small things like new technology. Many of these are arch conservatives.
Other people blow like the wind, this way and that. Most of these are liberals and progressives.
A third type of person is someone who can grow and change without losing a core stability. There may be some fluctuation between poles of popularly accepted ideologies; but this person considers both sides of a story before making a decision. Sometimes errors are made in one direction or the other; but there can be no president, nor any human whatsoever, who does not make errors from time to time.
Trump is that type: he grows and builds on a foundation that, in his case, is pretty solid. One thing he mentions a lot is his love of family and this country, and his wish to protect them both. That is a solid base and unlikely ever to change; whereas he has some latitude on policy. He is the type of person who will find out what the "market" will bear before making a hard and fast policy. He has named a number of conservatives who are likely to be in his circle of advisors. His main push will be to repair the economic damage done to our nation, to rebuild the military, to protect our borders, and to shrink government and regulation. It would be hard to get more conservative than that in our present situation.
If he fails to put social issues in the forefront to please diehard conservatives, I hope they content themselves with the reality that without a prospering nation and economy, unimaginable social evils await them with baited breath.
I’d like to think that was the case, however, I’m not convinced.
Remember there is a 4th type....the type that is clever enough to discern a political opening and skillful enough to exploit that situation to their personal advantage.
That person has NO core beliefs either conservative or liberal/progressive. Their only motivation is self advancement, their only guiding principle is that which enhances personal wealth and power. This person has no conscience and no particular concern with right and wrong.
This type is the most dangerous of the four.
I am NOT saying that Donald Trump is such a person. My worry is that he just might be.
Red State GOPe mouthpiece
Cruz’s would slice and dice Shrillery! one on one. He’s orders of magnitude smarter then she is, better informed, plus he has the better debating position (he’s actually RIGHT), AND he’s a good debater. Oh, and finally, she’s a moron. Hell, Cruz’ briefcase could kick her smarmy old Crusty-clad azz.
Perry - pure jealousy of Trump.
Jindal - pure jealousy of Trump.
Cruz - became jealous of Trump.
Rubio - becoming jealous of Trump.
Excited about Perry? Jindal? zzzzzzzzz
