David Brooks: Donald Trump's "Bigotry" Has "Done Enormous Damage To America's Reputation Abroad"

PBS: Syndicated columnist Mark Shields and New York Times columnist David Brooks join Judy Woodruff to discuss Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's comments on banning Muslims from entering the U.S., a campaign surge for Sen. Ted Cruz, plus assessing Speaker of the House Paul Ryan’s first month on the job.

Brooks says Republican Senators would rather vote for a Democratic Majority Leader than "universally unpopular" Ted Cruz.

JUDY WOODRUFF, PBS NEWSHOUR: When it comes to Trump, David, I know we have been talking about him, but this week, with the statement about keeping Muslims out of the country, is this just more of the same of what we have been hearing from Donald Trump, or are we hearing something at a completely new level?

DAVID BROOKS: I think it’s a different level.

The man is a genius for attention, an addict of attention, and therefore a genius of getting it. And so this I think is a different level for a couple of reasons. First, it is bigotry of a naked sort. The Mexican stuff was bigotry, too, but this strikes me as a higher level.

Second, an offense against religious liberty. And, third, because of the way Trump has now risen to prominence, it has reverberations around the globe, in the way the stuff even he said earlier about Latin Americans didn’t...

saw a bit of SNL “news”. The black guy was calling Trump racist. Then showed pictures of Trump with various Black celebs and implied those Blacks aren’t good enough cause no one else would want to be around them. Now thats a racist statement. He knows the minds of Black people?

People, as we heard earlier in the program, are scared about terrorism. Secondly, there has been a pent-up, silent frustration about political correctness. So anybody who says something politically completely incorrect, and properly incorrect, for some people, that’s like a liberation. It’s, finally, somebody’s saying the truth.

In other words, David, he's addressing a legitimate issue and he's telling the truth.

But he's not supposed to do that...???

Obama gives them billions and billions of dollars.
Obama gives them tons and tons of wonderful weapons they can use against us.
Obama gives them military training, too.
Obama uses our USAF and USN to protect rheir nuclear bomb-making factories (also their ICBM factories so they will be able to deliver their nukes to America easier).
Obama gives speeches all the time about how wonderful is Allah, Islam, and Mohammad. And, all about the terrriffic contributions Moslems have made to America throughout our history.
Obama brings their young military-aged men to America, provides them all kinds of special relocation and welfare assistance enabling them to better spy out our “soft targets” for Allah.
Obama has crippled our military defenses.
Obama has crippled our border and immigration services.
Obama is now bringing them into cities, towns, and villages from Sea to Shining Sea, in great big unmarked vehicles.
All of the above with our generous American taxpayers’ money.
Obama has Christianity and Jewish faith under siege in America and insofar as he’s able, around the world. Where he can’t directly undermine the Church, he gives more of his wonderful speeches against her and her teachings (while continuing to extol Islam as so beautiful and terrriffic).
And, every time the great Warriors of Allah carry out another of their brave, “audacious” terror attacks against us, Obama tries to cover it up as just a “workplace incident” or maybe what, minor spat at the quilting bee?

Gee, come to think on it.....what more could we possibly do for the great warriors of Allah ... to make ourselves even better liked?

OH I got it, let’s cancel our elections and leave Obama in our White House “for life!”

For those who have relatives abroad, what becomes clear is that what’s changed is the trust and respect other nations had for our prosperity, opportunity, innovation and advancements, and our freedom. They see us as declining, because we are - and people like Brooks are part of the reason for this decline.
