Yes, Unfortunately Ted Cruz Did Support Trans-Pacific Trade Deal (TPA) – With Video...

...

Senator Ted Cruz voted for Cloture on TPA Fast track trade authority removing the hurdle and concern of further amendments and clearing the way for passage. Again, like "unanimous consent" cloture votes are not recorded roll call votes. Thereby Ted Cruz could obfuscate his support. He figured to hide, see how that works?

However, Cruz advocacy could not be hidden entirely. On another bill HR 1314 Cruz voted against an amendment to the Trade Deal that would require congress to be consulted if China (or other nations) were to join after the fact:

Senate Amendment 1251 "To require the approval of Congress before additional countries may join the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement"…

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=114&session=1&vote=00189

Cruz voted NAY. Directly saying he did not want congress to be consulted before other countries, namely CHINA, could join TPP.

Notice during November's debate Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz were saying China is not part of TPP; contrast their voices against Donald Trump who was honestly saying TPP carries a backdoor for China (and Russia) to join.

Cruz's vote against Senate Amendment 1251 is the most telling thing in this whole fiasco. Why would Cruz vote against an amendment that would allow Congress to keep China out, if Cruz and the GOPe were assuring us that China had nothing whatever to do with TPP?

Yes, he was wrong to do that. I’m still voting for him.

Yes he was wrong to do that and sorry, but it is why he lost my vote. Go Trump.

Not me. No way. Cruz is the guy who knows the law, the constitution, and is willing and able to fight to restore religious freedom. That is a trump card to me.

But I am not into shaming other people for voting their own conscience. May the best man win. We each only get one vote. It is never a waste to vote for the one that best represents your convictions.

Because Cruz is probably a One World Order advocate.

Cruz is bought and paid for by a hedge fund banker (Robert Mercer) who benefits from the trade deal.

He is also in favor of expanding H1B visas:

Is this all you got?

Folks, this is the extent of the Trump supporters attack on Ted Cruz that they have made in all the months of this campaign so far. Oh, they're also upset because Cruz's wife worked for Goldman Sachs.

There is an entire argument on the other side, to wit: trade is ultimately good for the country, it is supported by traditional conservatives like the Heritage Foundation, it has always been supported by conservative Nobel prize winning economists like Milton Friedman. The idea that trade deals are bad for the American economy comes from Donald Trump which, like all Trump utterances, are unsupported with data specifically proving the point. Trump is nonspecific in his objections (except to complain of currency manipulation) and he is characteristically unspecific in relating whatever is wrong with these treaties to actual losses of jobs in identifiable industries.

Note this article makes many broad assumptions about the motivations by Cruz which are not otherwise substantiated.

All TPA does is call for an up or down vote in the House and Senate without the opportunity for amendments. This is a procedure that has been used time and again since the founding of the Republic, it has been blessed by the Supreme Court, it is clearly constitutional and is indispensable if trade deals are to be negotiated at all. No trade deals, no growth in the economy. If there is a demonstrably bad trade deal negotiated, your elected representatives in the House and the Senate can vote it down with a simple majority.

Time and again Trump supporters raise this issue (and H1B visas, a collateral matter) as though it were somehow a trespass on conservatism to support international trade deals. That is absolute rubbish.

I ask again, is this all you got?

.....................................................
This is why he lost me. He is the guy who knows the law and the Constitution, yet failed to support the Constitution’s provisions that Congress have control of decisions. He chose to deny Congress the ability to fight back if China (or another country undesirable to our economic position)should try to join. We are already under the full court press by China. Why on earth would he not want to protect America instead of voting with the One World Order RINOs?

Yep. Me too. He even co-authored an article in the WSJ with Paul Ryan on the trade deal. I do not trust Cruz at all.

He is not a natural born citizen, no matter how hard he tries to run away from it. His father, Cuban by birth, had Canadian citizenship until 2005 or so. Cruz was born in Canada and his mother and father ran a business in Canada. He only recently gave up his Canadian citizenship. He said he did not believe he had to do anything to renounce his citizenship. This is an attorney that ran and won a Senate seat. He had to have known he had Canadian citizenship. I’d like to see his passport.

The Dems will go after him for the same reason that the right went after Obama. Obama had a fake passport, so he at least claimed to be born here. Congress and the media would not challenge Obama, but it will be open season on Cruz.

Excellent post nathanbedford....as always.

Many get confused over TTP and TPA...there is a difference.

“.....if you look at TPP , I have come out against TPP, it is an incredibly long and complicated mess of a bill,”.... Cruz

I understand your reasoning. He looked at it differently at the time. I disagree with his vote. But like I said before, other issues weigh heavier on my list of issues. He made a mistake in procedure, but I don’t see it as his being on the wrong side of the principle. He probably regrets that vote. Even if not, other issues matter more to me. You never agree with anyone 100% of the time. Some things Reagan did I didn’t like, though I think he comes closest to perfection. For me personally, I get more of what I want with Cruz than with Trump.

Before flying off the handle, it would be a good idea to google TPA TPP and learn that they are not at all the same.

TPP is the one to be afraid of.

If I had to guess, I would guess that Cruz figures that TPP will not get voted on before the election.

Google it.

The Corker bill was another vote I hold against him. It allowed Obama to get his Iran nuke deal. He should have voted no, even if he would have been only the second vote against it.

I liked the time he filibustered, but that didn’t really accomplish anything.

Is that all you got?Obviously our trade deficit with the countries in question lead you to believe that trade deficits are the signs of a healthy economy? Caterpillar is reason enough to put a halt to the massacre of America’s working people by the hedge fund managers and wall street tycoons.Did anyone around this subject ever understand the basic concepts of our economy and even question those who approve of us losing and losing and losing with a system that isn’t working? Trump is right. A good deal is when everybody wibns something. We don’t win anything any more, we just keep paying money we don’t have to those who don’t plaay fair and need to be stopped.

If you all recall, that vote was based on a negotiated deal with McConnell that turned out to be a lie...

In other words, Cruz got suckered, and he made them pay for it. The vote, as I understand it, was not going to be stopped by Cruz in any case. McConnell wanted a air of majority consensus on it. On the final passage it passed in spite of Cruz’s No vote.

I suppose you are no going to tell me cruz is really just a establishment rino now.....I suppose..
